MEPs approve €35 billion loan for Ukraine with some far-right support

The proposed loan for Ukraine split the far-right Patriots for Europe (PfE) group, with some of its members voting in favour and others against.

00:00The European Parliament approved an initiative to issue a 35 billion euro loan for Ukraine,

00:06backed by frozen Russian assets.

00:08The plan received 518 votes in favour, 56 against and 61 abstentions in Strasbourg

00:15on Tuesday.

00:16It will be part of a framework that will make future revenues from Russian central bank

00:20assets frozen in the EU available to Ukraine.

00:24Some 210 billion euros in assets have been held in the European Union territory since

00:29the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
