Cost of living and youth crime are still the biggest ticket items ahead of Queensland’s state election

Cost of living and youth crime are emerging as two of the biggest issues for voters in Brisbane’s outer suburbs ahead of election day on Saturday. But some residents are still unsure who they will be voting for.

00:00Leelung Say came to Australia from Laos eight years ago, seeking a better life.

00:08She runs a food stall at this popular weekend market.

00:13But like many, she's struggling.

00:15Living is very hard now, we need more help.

00:21She wants to see more done to reduce the high cost of groceries and other everyday expenses.

00:26I feel like sometimes terrible, sometimes okay.

00:30You have to do it, you have to stay, you have to have a life for your kids.

00:36The markets are in Woodridge, a safe labour seat held by treasurer Cameron Dick.

00:42The nearby seat of Springwood has only ever been held by the government of the day.

00:47Local cafe owner Alex Milisavich wants more support for small business.

00:52I seriously don't know who I'm going to vote for, because I can't see change happening.

00:57Forty kilometres away, in the seat of Ipswich West, youth crime is a pressing issue.

01:02It's a court system, to my opinion, and that's what needs to get sorted out, seriously.

01:08You used to be able to walk out at night and be safe, now you're not going to walk down the down street.

01:13The electorate flipped from Labor to LNP at a by-election in March.

01:18Labor is desperate to win it back.

01:22Neither side sets me on fire.

01:24Labor currently hold a range of suburban seats in regions like Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and the Redlands.

01:31But demographics are slowly changing as more young families move to these areas for affordable housing.

01:38Experts say this could see a shift in the way these outer suburban areas vote.

01:43These people, by and large, are aspirational Australians that have come here in part for a better life.

01:50And that's making it a more complex political picture.

01:53Back at the markets, Thai food stall owner, Tik Chumwanta, wants better investment in local infrastructure.
