Leelung Say came to Australia from Laos eight years ago, seeking a better life.
00:08
She runs a food stall at this popular weekend market.
00:13
But like many, she's struggling.
00:15
Living is very hard now, we need more help.
00:21
She wants to see more done to reduce the high cost of groceries and other everyday expenses.
00:26
I feel like sometimes terrible, sometimes okay.
00:30
You have to do it, you have to stay, you have to have a life for your kids.
00:36
The markets are in Woodridge, a safe labour seat held by treasurer Cameron Dick.
00:42
The nearby seat of Springwood has only ever been held by the government of the day.
00:47
Local cafe owner Alex Milisavich wants more support for small business.
00:52
I seriously don't know who I'm going to vote for, because I can't see change happening.
00:57
Forty kilometres away, in the seat of Ipswich West, youth crime is a pressing issue.
01:02
It's a court system, to my opinion, and that's what needs to get sorted out, seriously.
01:08
You used to be able to walk out at night and be safe, now you're not going to walk down the down street.
01:13
The electorate flipped from Labor to LNP at a by-election in March.
01:18
Labor is desperate to win it back.
01:22
Neither side sets me on fire.
01:24
Labor currently hold a range of suburban seats in regions like Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and the Redlands.
01:31
But demographics are slowly changing as more young families move to these areas for affordable housing.
01:38
Experts say this could see a shift in the way these outer suburban areas vote.
01:43
These people, by and large, are aspirational Australians that have come here in part for a better life.
01:50
And that's making it a more complex political picture.
01:53
Back at the markets, Thai food stall owner, Tik Chumwanta, wants better investment in local infrastructure.
02:00
Make everything drop a little bit, the petrol, the groceries, please, it will be helpful. Thank you.
