China to test 'lunar soil bricks' in space for future moon base construction

00:09Chinese researchers have developed an innovative brick using material with a composition similar to lunar soil.

00:15With a density similar to ordinary bricks, these lunar soil bricks are over three times stronger than standard red or concrete bricks.

00:22On the moon, temperatures can soar to 180 degrees Celsius during the day and plummet to minus 190 degrees at night.

00:30The bricks will face rigorous tests aboard China's space station.

00:34Researchers will evaluate their mechanical strength, thermal performance and resistance to cosmic radiation.

00:40The first lunar brick is expected to return to Earth by the end of 2025.
