00:47Once upon a time, a woman lived by herself in a faraway village.

00:54She was very lonely after her husband had died.

01:01She always wanted to have a child, but alas, she didn't have any.

01:18One day, she went to her friend who was a witch.

01:31The witch gave her a grain of barley

01:39and told her to go back home and plant it.

01:52The woman did as she was told.

02:00The next morning, a beautiful plant had grown from the seed.

02:06It had a lovely flower that looked like a tulip.

02:11The woman had never seen a flower like that and was mesmerized by its beauty.

02:19She gently kissed one of its petals.

02:23As she did that, the flower blossomed open.

02:28Inside it was a beautiful little girl, no bigger than the size of the woman's thumb.

02:36The woman instantly fell in love with her and called her Thumbelina.

02:45Thumbelina took away the woman's loneliness.

02:51In the day, she would tell her stories and talk to her.

02:56Sometimes, she would make Thumbelina a boat out of her tulip petal

03:02which she could row in a plate full of water.

03:09At night, Thumbelina would sleep in a bed out of a walnut shell

03:15with a blanket made of a rose petal.

03:26One night, as she was sleeping, a frog came to her window and saw her.

03:36He thought to himself, what a beautiful girl!

03:59And so he grabbed Thumbelina and hopped away to his home.

04:26I will put her on the water lily in the middle of the pond till then.

04:36And so the frog put Thumbelina in the middle of the pond on a water lily leaf.

04:49but when she couldn't, she broke down crying.

04:58Two minnows were sitting under the same leaf and they heard her cry.

05:05They asked her about her troubles and when she told them, they decided to help her.

05:14They nibbled away the lily stem.

05:19Soon it broke and floated away with Thumbelina.

05:26Just when Thumbelina thought she was free

05:29a beetle came down and took her away to his home.

05:36He called over his friends to introduce them to his pretty prisoner.

05:41But the beetle's friends told him that she was too different than them

05:45and she didn't belong with them.

05:48I agree.

05:49I think I should let her go.

05:55And so he dropped her in the long grass and flower.

06:00Thumbelina was very happy that she was free from her captors.

06:06However, she still did not know where her home was.

06:12She spent many days in the grass and between the flowers.

06:17She would eat the pollen of the flowers and drink the dew from the leaves.

06:27One day

06:30as she was walking

06:35she stumbled upon a small house made of mud.

06:42It had a strange round entrance.

06:49She went up to it and knocked on the door.

06:54A mouse opened the door.

06:56Oh, hello there.

06:58Isn't it cold out there for you today?

07:01Come in please.

07:03Thank you so much.

07:05Once Thumbelina was settled comfortably in the mouse's house

07:10he asked her about who she was.

07:13Thumbelina told him her entire story.

07:41Do not worry.

07:42You can stay here as long as you like.

11:26A few months had passed when the love-struck friend of the mouse

11:30found Thumbelina again.

11:35Oh, my beloved! I have been looking for you everywhere.

11:39Now I have found you and must marry you.

11:44Thumbelina knew there was no way out.

11:48She had no choice but to fly away.

11:52Thumbelina knew there was no way out of it for her.

11:56So she asked him if she could spend one last day out in the open air

12:02before she was confined to living the rest of her life underground with him.

12:16As she roamed in the open fields for one last time

12:20she heard a familiar voice.

12:30Thumbelina saw her old friend who had returned for her.

12:37and hopped on the back of the swallow and they took off.

12:51When they reached the land of the flowers

12:54the swallow landed Thumbelina on a beautiful flower petal.

13:01This is the kingdom of the flowers and that is their king.

13:08Thumbelina saw a handsome young king with beautiful wings.

13:14He was surrounded by lovely flowers.

13:19As soon as she saw him

13:21she knew she wanted to call this place home.

13:26Her presence attracted the king's attention.

13:35He too fell in love with her and married her.
