The monthly salaries for domestic workers from Indonesia should be adjusted to reflect
00:06
the new minimum wage of RM1,700.
00:10
This is what Indonesian Ambassador Hermono told FMT, noting that the current Memorandum
00:15
of Understanding between Malaysia and Indonesia sets the minimum salary at RM1,500.
00:22
Hermono said he is prepared to make adjustments to the MOU, which will be a topic of discussion
00:26
at the next joint working group meeting expected to be held by the end of the year.
00:31
Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the minimum wage will be raised to RM1,700
00:37
next February.
00:38
Anwar also said the government plans to make it mandatory for all foreign workers to contribute
00:44
to EPF.
00:46
In response, Hermono said Indonesian workers must comply with all regulations set by the
00:50
country they are working in.
00:53
He emphasized that any differences in regulations between the two countries must be resolved
00:57
through a joint working group meeting.
