Well, friends of Billboard, welcome George Harris to the 35th anniversary of Billboard Latin Music Week.
00:05
How does it feel to be here with us?
00:08
Happy, because 35 years ago a lot of things happened in music,
00:12
and that's one of the things I'm here to do tonight in this opening that I've been invited to,
00:16
and I'm very honored and very happy, because I just thought,
00:20
what was playing, what was happening in music, how the songs were made known,
00:26
what was happening in the music industry, today it's completely different.
00:30
Today we have platforms, we have YouTube, we have Spotify,
00:34
we have so many ways to promote and make music, but also before there was a magic,
00:39
and that's what I'm here to highlight tonight, of the 35th anniversary, I'm very happy,
00:44
35 years had to pass for me to be here, I never imagined a comedian opening a show like the Billboards,
00:50
so I'm very excited, and I've put some music inside the show,
00:55
I think people will love it, I think there will be a different mood to start a show like this.
01:00
Do you feel that we took you out of your comfort zone?
01:03
No, not at all, I feel that comedians in the United States, for example, in English,
01:09
are the ones who are always in the awards, and are always the ones who open,
01:13
also I think the audience is waiting for them, when they've been in the Oscar, Billy Crystal,
01:18
for so many years, and Ellen DeGeneres, and Whoopi Goldberg, and all those great comedians,
01:23
I think they give a different flavor to the award, they put that funny thing, that angry thing,
01:32
that sometimes they take away that rigidity to the award, that people are very nervous,
01:35
that I don't forget to say thank you to my mom, that I don't forget to say thank you to my husband, to my wife,
01:39
you know, all that rigid thing, they put that spicy thing, that somehow people relax and laugh,
01:46
and I think the spectator who is at home, the one who receives the show from home,
01:50
is very interested in what the comedian is saying, I think the comedian gives a different spicy thing.
01:56
You are obviously very spontaneous, but we know that you have to be very bright,
02:02
because you have to have a lot of knowledge to be able to talk about so many things,
02:06
obviously in your sketches and everything you do, how did you prepare yourself for tonight,
02:12
for what you are going to be presenting today?
02:14
Well, I took this number just when they told me that it was the 35th anniversary,
02:19
I started to research about Latin music, of course,
02:23
what was happening in our Latin American countries with Spanish music,
02:27
and that's when I took the information,
02:29
let's say, with two or three data, I can always put together a routine,
02:34
I can talk about a historical moment, I like to go to people's nostalgia,
02:40
and that when people hear the show and when they hear the routine,
02:44
they say, wow, I didn't remember this,
02:47
I mean, it's like you brought me a memory that maybe was sleeping inside of me,
02:52
and I think that's what I want to do tonight with the audience,
02:55
I think the audience is going to be surprised, and they are going to sing,
02:57
and they are going to laugh at what we are singing,
03:01
and the way the routine is presented.
03:03
I am very excited and I know that the people are going to respond well.
03:06
If you could tell me what the last three songs are, without cheating, that you heard today.
03:13
Oh, today?
03:15
Or this week?
03:16
Look, today I listened to Luis Miguel.
03:20
Oh, very good.
03:21
I like Luis Miguel a lot.
03:23
I listened to Luis Miguel, but old songs by Luis Miguel.
03:26
I listened to Luis Miguel and I listened to Rocio Durcal, imagine that.
03:31
But because I was listening to the radio,
03:34
and it was not Rocio Durcal, and I stayed listening to it.
03:37
So those are the last three songs I listened to today.
03:42
But it has nothing to do with me going and learning,
03:44
but I stayed listening, I think they are part of my childhood,
03:48
and I enjoy them when I listen to them because they remind me of a lot of things from the past.
03:53
Well, thank you for coming to share a little bit of your magic,
03:57
that you enjoy tonight too.
03:59
And now if you give us a greeting for Billboard.
04:00
Of course, look, from here?
04:02
Yes.
04:03
Let's go, look.
04:04
How are you guys?
04:05
I am George Harris, and let me tell you that I am very excited
04:08
because we are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Latino Billboards.
04:12
What better time to be with you, share,
04:15
and above all make you laugh through the music that has made us all enjoy so much.
04:21
A big kiss.
