Cynthia Erivo Slams Fans For Editing New ‘Wicked’ Poster That Hides Her Face

Cynthia Erivo has voiced her frustration with fans of the Broadway musical “Wicked” who have manipulated promotional material for the upcoming film adaptation.

00:00Cynthia Erivo recently spoke out against a fan-edited Wicked poster that obscures her face,

00:04calling it deeply hurtful. In her Instagram story, the 37-year-old actress described the

00:09edited images as the wildest, most offensive thing she's ever seen. She stated, quote,

00:14"'None of this is funny. None of it is cute. It degrades me. It degrades us.'"

00:18The original poster showcases Erivo as Elphaba, looking directly at the camera,

00:22while Ariana Grande's Glinda leans in to whisper. However, the fan edit covers Erivo's eyes,

00:28swaps her green lipstick for red, and alters her expression. Erivo went on to add in her post,

00:32"'The original poster is an illustration. I am a real-life human being. To edit my face

00:37and hide my eyes is to erase me.'" Erivo highlighted how the changes diminish her

00:42role in the film directed by John M. Chu. The original poster in the Broadway adaption does

00:47have the eyes hidden, but nonetheless. She concluded her response by sharing the unedited

00:52poster to cleanse fans' palettes. Even the director echoed her sentiment, calling Erivo his superhero.
