Hi friends, learning is the key to unlocking the door to success.
00:06
Make every lesson an opportunity to grow and develop.
00:12
One method of learning is to find the answer to a question.
00:17
In this series, we will calculate the change in velocity using the concept of impulse.
00:25
Let's discuss.
00:28
A ball is thrown from the ground at an angle of 30 degrees.
00:33
Of course the ball will go through a parabolic path.
00:39
Why is that?
00:40
Apparently the mass is attracted to the center of the earth by the force of gravity.
00:47
Along the path, the ball gets a vertical gravitational force downward.
00:52
In fact, the force causes acceleration.
00:56
With another time, the ball moves accelerated downward.
01:00
Meanwhile, in the horizontal direction, there is no force at all.
01:05
The speed in the horizontal direction will not change.
01:09
Indirectly, this question asks us to calculate the change in velocity in the vertical direction.
01:18
We know that impulse is related to average force.
01:22
J is the same as F t.
01:26
On the other hand, impulse is also a change in momentum.
01:30
J is the same as m delta V y.
01:35
In V there is a subscript y as a marker for the direction of velocity.
01:42
Compare the two equations.
01:46
The force of gravity is the multiplication of mass and the acceleration due to gravity.
01:54
It seems we can cross out the value of m.
02:00
Delta V y is equal to g t.
02:03
We can see the value from the problem sheet.
02:09
The result is 30 meters per second.
02:12
The direction of the impulse is in the same direction as the force.
02:19
Since the direction of gravity is downward, we can give a minus sign to indicate that
02:24
the impulse is also downward.
02:32
Happy learning everyone!
