00:09and by the mid-2000s, we were playing Coachella,

00:59In the beginning, we thought it was just a leak of a demo,

01:05to Tegan and Sarah's personal information.

01:07This whole new, really scary universe opened up.

01:11Fake Tegan knew where we all lived.

01:13Email addresses had been hacked.

01:15They shared passport scans

01:16and knew their mom's medical history.

01:19It introduced the idea that it's someone we know

01:22coming after our friends.

01:23Me and my girlfriend, that just made me question

01:26everyone around me.

01:27It was terrifying and scary.

01:28I was paranoid.

01:29The fear, of course, was the sort of physical safety.

01:32It got darker when we realized multiple fans

01:35had been catfished online

01:36and thought that they were talking to me.

01:40People came forward from all over the world

01:43saying they had been corresponding with Tegan for years.

01:46It escalated to a relationship.

01:48Felt more sexual.

01:49Felt very real.

01:50It definitely left a mark on me.

01:52It turned my life upside down.

01:54We were extremely worried for our fans
