00:00Today in the United States, we are in the midst of a maternal health crisis.

00:06And this has been pretty much the status quo since I started advocating on this issue more

00:11than 15 years ago.

00:13The United States is one of just a few countries that have a rising maternal mortality rate.

00:18We lose a woman every two minutes in this country from a pregnancy or childbirth-related

00:24complication, and black women are three to four times more likely to die from a pregnancy

00:29or childbirth-related complication, indigenous women right behind them.

00:34And this is a real devastation, a catastrophe, honestly, and something that while we are

00:42seeing more recognition and more stories come to light and more headlines, the numbers really

00:48aren't shifting and probably will not do so given the rollbacks that we've seen in the

00:53last couple of years.
