00:02In this video, I will explain the ending of Sharper, so, let's begin.

00:06Apple TV's A Sharper follows the story of a group of characters whose lives get entangled

00:10in a web of lies and deceit.

00:12Divided into chapters that follow the perspectives of different characters, the film reveals

00:16that no one is what they seem.

00:19It forces the audience to pay attention to detail and figure out what every twist means

00:22for the fate of the characters.

00:24By the end, the entire series of events gets so convoluted and mixed up that it might get

00:29a little tricky to figure out who got conned in the end and who won.

00:33Here we break down that shocking ending just to let you know this video will contain spoilers.

00:38Tom runs a quiet bookstore in New York.

00:41After the death of his mother, he has remained closed off from the world.

00:45But when Sandra walks into the store, he is besotted.

00:48They click immediately and a date turns into the beginning of a good relationship.

00:53They share their troubled pasts with one another and Tom discovers that Sandra's brother Jason

00:57has fallen in with the bad people.

01:00Sandra needs to pay them off or they will come for her.

01:02But she doesn't have that money.

01:05Tom reveals that he is actually the son of a billionaire and can help Sandra out with

01:08the few hundred thousand dollars she needs.

01:11They decide to meet up after Sandra has given them the money.

01:14However, she never comes back.

01:17Her sudden disappearance makes it clear that Tom has been conned.

01:21When the story shifts to Sandra's perspective, we discover that she was trained by a man

01:24named Max to con money out of Tom.

01:27Later, it turns out that Max is running a con with Madeline, who gets married to Tom's

01:31billionaire father, Richard.

01:33The con on Tom was to prove him reckless and not serious with the money.

01:37Hence, Richard gives over most of his inheritance to Madeline, leaving Tom just enough to get

01:42by.

01:43For a moment, it looks like Madeline's plan has succeeded.

01:46But then, Sandra comes back and the whole thing falls apart.

01:50How does Tom get his inheritance back from Madeline?

01:53The reason that Tom was pushed out of his inheritance was that he proved himself incapable

01:57of making smart decisions.

01:59He gave away $350,000 to a woman that he barely knew.

02:04This shook his father's confidence in him.

02:06For Tom, however, it was not about the money.

02:09It was about the fact that Sandra broke his trust.

02:13He isn't able to let that go, so he brings in a PI that his father used to employ to

02:16find things that no one could.

02:19They find Sandra, who has seemingly fallen back into her drug addiction.

02:23When she is brought home, Madeline becomes nervous about the truth coming out.

02:27Sandra promises not to reveal her role in it in return for finding Max.

02:30Madeline contacts Max, and they meet in a parking lot where Sandra confronts him.

02:35A few minutes later, Tom and the PI show up.

02:38It turns out that the PI had been following Sandra and Madeline and this was to prove

02:42to Tom that they were riffing with him together.

02:44Tom becomes distraught by the revelation and tries to kill Sandra and Madeline.

02:49In all of it, Tom is shot and bleeds out on the spot.

02:52The PI and Sandra try to call the cops, but Madeline asks them not to.

02:57She promises to return the inheritance to Richard's foundation.

03:00As soon as that happens, the PI drives off, and Sandra, Max, and Madeline are put on a

03:05plane to leave New York forever.

03:08Max and Madeline start talking about the money and she reveals that the money in the foundation

03:11should have gone to Tom.

03:13But because he is dead and she is the trustee, the money is still hers.

03:18Sandra is disgusted by the fact that they are still thinking about the money and not

03:21about Tom's death.

03:23She goes to the washroom on the plane, and that's when Madeline notices that Tom's blood

03:26on her hand is not actually blood.

03:29It is something else, which means that Tom didn't really die.

03:33They realized that Sandra is not on the plane anymore and this is when they realized that

03:36Sandra and Tom had conned them.

03:39How did Tom and Sandra con Madeline and Max?

03:42When Max brought Sandra under his wing, he taught her never to feel guilty about conning

03:46other people because their victims were usually not innocent.

03:50This was true in the case of the man that she had to seduce as her first con, but things

03:53weren't the same with Tom.

03:55While spending time with him, she realized that he was an innocent person who lost everything

03:59because of being duped by her.

04:01When the con was done, she and Max went their separate ways.

04:05But when Sandra read about Richard's death in the newspaper and realized that he was

04:08Tom's father, she felt guilty for what she'd done.

04:12To set things right, Sandra comes back to Tom and tells him everything about Max and

04:16Madeline's plan.

04:17By then, the inheritance has already gone to his stepmother.

04:21To get it back, they'll need to con her, but it's not so easy.

04:24So, they seek help from Tipsy, a con artist who had previously worked with Max and Madeline

04:29but never received the cut that he deserved.

04:32He introduces Tom and Sandra to Goldie, who also has his own team of con men.

04:37It is Goldie and his men who play the role of the P.I.

04:41Sandra fakes getting hooked on drugs and makes her withdrawal look realistic.

04:45What happens after she is brought to Tom's house was intricately planned until the moment

04:48that Tom gets shot.

04:50We discovered that they had practiced that scene a number of times.

04:53So, when Sandra pushes the gun out of Tom's hands, it was premeditated.

04:58They wanted Madeline to pick up the gun so that it would look like she was the one who

05:01shot Tom.

05:03Conning money out of people was one thing, but killing someone wasn't something that

05:06Madeline could get away with.

05:08It was the fear of spending the rest of her life in prison that got her to forgo the inheritance.

05:13Once that happened, she and Max were let go and Tom returned to his life.

05:17What happens to Madeline and Max?

05:20Madeline's main con was to get Richard's inheritance to her name.

05:24He was old and sick and she knew that he would die soon enough.

05:27To get Tom out of the inheritance, she used Max and Sandra to con him and her plan worked.

05:33But then, Sandra came back and Madeline got scared that her real nature would be revealed

05:37and she would end up in prison.

05:39Believing that Sandra is love-struck by Max, she called him and they met up which is when

05:43the final showdown happened.

05:45Madeline hadn't planned to kill Tom but when he died, she needed to get herself out of

05:49that pickle.

05:50To make it look like she wanted to set things right, she offered to give her entire inheritance

05:54to Richard's foundation.

05:56But even then, she was improvising.

05:59The foundation was supposed to go to Tom and Madeline was made its trustee.

06:03With Tom dead, she knew that the money would still solely be hers.

06:07So, she played along.

06:09But then, on the plane, she realizes that Tom was never shot and he and Sandra had conned

06:14her and Max.

06:15Now, however, everything is out of her grasp.

06:19She can't go back to New York and will have to continue her criminal activities somewhere

06:22else.

06:24There is nothing that can be done about it now, no game that she can play to get even

06:27a single penny out of the billions of dollars she had.

06:30After the betrayal that Max faced at her hands, it remains unclear whether he would want to

06:34continue playing cons with her.

06:36But then, he did return to con Tom when Madeline asked him to.

06:40It looks like he is still devoted to her and we can assume that they will take their business

06:44elsewhere.

06:45Do Tom and Sandra end up together?

06:48Both Tom and Sandra had been going through a rough time when they met each other.

06:52This was one of the reasons why they connected with each other even when Sandra was supposed

06:55to be faking it with him.

06:57However, wasn't motivated to con Tom in the same way as Max and Madeline.

07:02They made it clear that they were all about money and didn't really care about each other

07:05either.

07:06Sandra, on the other hand, didn't want to ruin the life of an innocent person.

07:11This inherently made her better than the duo, which is why she came back to help Tom get

07:14his inheritance back.

07:16In the end, when she and Tom's con has succeeded and they have defeated Max and Madeline, Tom

07:21and Sandra end up at the bookstore again.

07:24Here, they replay the conversation they had the first time they met, but this time, it

07:28is Sandra who asks Tom out to dinner.

07:30It is clear that Tom has forgiven her for duping her the first time around.

07:34There is surely a spark between them, but Tom can't simply forget that Sandra had conned

07:38him.

07:39In time, perhaps, they might rekindle the romance.

07:43For now, however, it looks like they will at least remain good friends.
