00:14The show follows a cocky delinquent, Kiyoshi Oh's, on the path to becoming a pro sumo

00:18wrestler.

00:19A majority of the sumo association and fans alike loathe Oh's attitude toward the honorable

00:24sport.

00:25However, his stable master Enshou, a former Yokozuna champion, sees potential in Oh's

00:30and supports him as he navigates the rocky world of sumo.

00:43After his father's sushi business runs into the ground, Kiyoshi Oh's home life becomes

00:46a nightmare.

00:48As a result, his mother hates his father and sleeps with the men around town frequently.

00:52Eventually, a professional sumo wrestler approaches Oh's and entices him into joining Enshou's

00:57stable with promises of money and fame.

01:00At the stable Oh's, alongside another recruit, Shimizu is violently bullied by other wrestlers.

01:06Though Oh's used to be a judo champion, his fighting skills don't help him much inside

01:10the dohayo, and he rarely scores a win during training.

01:13Meanwhile, former political reporter, Asuka Kunishima, accompanies her boss to the Enshou's

01:18stable to cover a story about sumo.

01:21Born in the US, Kunishima is a forward-thinking woman who dislikes the orthodoxical traditions

01:26When Oh's and Kunishima first meet, they develop a hostile relationship.

01:30Soon, Oh's realizes being a sumo wrestler isn't much lucrative for those in the lower

01:34ranks and runs away from the stable.

01:37Shimizu follows after him, begging him not to run away from sumo because he believes

01:40Oh's can become a great wrestler if he tries.

01:43Nevertheless, Shimizu knows he doesn't belong in the stable and quits.

01:48In the bigger world of sumo, legacy wrestler, Ryuki makes it as an ozeki wrestler and hopes

01:52to surpass his yokozuna father, Rukoku, in his own career.

01:56At the same time, a grave financial burden falls on Oh's shoulders, and he realizes he

02:00has to take sumo seriously.

02:03One of the wrestlers in Enshou's stable, Enya, a former high-ranking wrestler, gives Oh's

02:07advice after recognizing Oh's talent.

02:10Eventually, the May sumo tournament arrives, and Oh's receives his shikono, Eno.

02:15At the tournament, Oh's competes for the junidin division while Enya aims to win his

02:18way back to the juryo title.

02:20There, Oh's reunites with Shimizu, who has realized his dream of becoming a yobodashi

02:25and has been working as an usher for Enshou's stable.

02:28Though Oh's flippant behavior towards sumo earns him the umpire's distaste, he still

02:31wins his first match.

02:33Meanwhile, another high-level wrestler Kunihiko Shizuchi obliterates all his opponents in the

02:38dohayo.

02:39Enoshima, Enshou's rival and an association member, deeply despises Oh's because he reminds

02:44him of a young Enshou.

02:46Ensohima uses Oh's unpopularity with viewers as an excuse to pressure Enzo into making

02:50Oh's resign.

02:52While he visits the stable, Oh's interrupts their conversation and tries to make his case.

02:57Still, he only manages to anger Enoshima further due to his constant disrespect.

03:02Okamizan interrupts the steadily declining meeting and manages to make Enoshima drop

03:06Oh's case using her influence and connections.

03:08Meanwhile, Enya secures his return to the juryo rank.

03:12For Oh's fight on the 13th day, Enoshima instructs Oh's opponent, Bagari, to play dirty and break

03:17Oh's arms.

03:18Nevertheless, Enshou warns Oh's against foul play, and Oh's wins the match.

03:23Though Oh's wins the Joni Dan division with a perfect score, he disrespects the umpire.

03:28As such, he receives inflated criticism from online fans.

03:32Four months later, Oh's has secured a rich young man, Murata, as his patron and has started

03:36earning money through the stock market.

03:39He has made it to the Makushita division, ranking above his old stable bullies.

03:43Inversely, Enya's career declines after he loses his juryo rank after injuring his bad

03:47knee again.

03:49His doctor suggests he undergo surgery that will leave him incapable of ever participating

03:53in sumo again.

03:54Enya pushes through his pain and decides to enter the next tournament.

03:58While training, Enya wrestles a cocky Oh's and easily beats him.

04:02In the next round, Oh's plays dirty and accidentally further injures Enya's knee.

04:06Nevertheless, Enya competes in the tournament but loses his match against Shizuchi.

04:11Having lost his last chance at reclaiming his past glory, Enya retires as a sumo wrestler.

04:16Eventually, Inashima puts Oh's in a match opposite Shizuchi as well.

04:21However, prior to the match, a reporter approaches Shizuchi.

04:25The reporter knows how Shizuchi got arrested for the murder of his family as a kid.

04:30He blackmails Shizuchi with the information and asks him to throw the fight in Oh's favor.

04:35In the final match, Shizuchi disregards the reporter and ruthlessly beats Oh's.

04:39When the match ends, Oh's loses an ear and his stablemates rush him to the hospital.

04:44Did Shizuchi kill his family as a kid?

04:47Shizuchi grew up in Razu, Hokkaido, with a single mother and a younger brother.

04:52His mother is a volatile woman who is affectionate towards her children when it suits her and

04:56other times abusive.

04:58Though the fate of Shizuchi's father is unknown, it is most likely that his father either died

05:02or left his mother shortly after the kids were born.

05:05As such, Shizuchi's mother is angry about the fact that she has to take care of the

05:09boys on her own and takes it out on the young children.

05:12Shizuchi has also been a sumo wrestler from a young age.

05:16He participates in kids' sumo wrestles and wins his first trophy as a child.

05:20On that day, his mother is very pleased and tells Shizuchi she is proud of him when he

05:24wins his matches.

05:26However, when the family returns home, they find the outside of their house plastered

05:30with notices and complaints about unpaid debt.

05:33Eventually, Shizuchi's mother succumbs to the pressure and decides to give up.

05:37She murders her youngest son under a cherry blossom tree.

05:54Instead, Shizuchi mourns their death and crafts a shrine in their memory.

06:02After Shizuchi fails to comply, the reporter, Yasui, tries to take his story to gossip magazines

06:07and tarnish Shizuchi's name.

06:10Shizuchi is close to defeating Ryuki's record and can become a threat to Ryuki's sumo wrestling

06:14career.

06:15As a result, Yasui believes either Ryuki or Rokoku had been the one to anonymously contact

06:20him about Shizuchi, asking Yasui to blackmail him.

06:23One publication agrees to print Yasui's story but pulls out at the last minute due to pressure

06:28from an outside power.

06:29Eventually, that power approaches Yasui and picks him up from a bar in a car for a chat.

06:35Inside the car, Yasui finds Mr. Ito, a wealthy patron of the stable Ryuki belongs to.

06:40Ito tells Yasui he is the one who called in the tip as a way to protect Ryuki's career.

06:45Ito drops Yasui at his ex-wife's apartment and Yasui realizes Ito keeps tabs on his daughter

06:49in order to threaten Yasui.

06:51Therefore, Yasui stops pursuing his story and backs away.

06:55Eventually, Ito reveals to Rokoku that his wife is the one who asked him to rig the Shizuchi

06:59slash Oz match.

07:01Rokoku has been tough on his son from the beginning.

07:05As such, his wife pays special attention and care to Ryuki and tries to ruin Shizuchi's

07:09career for Ryuki's benefit.

07:11Rokoku asks his wife to leave due to her dishonorable actions.

07:15Does Oz beat Shizuchi?

07:17After Oz's first fight with Shizuchi, he gets hospitalized, and the doctor has to reattach

07:21his ear.

07:23Though he physically recovers after a while, he is still mentally traumatized by the fight.

07:28To rub salt in the wound, Enoshima asks Umayama to go over to Enshou's stable with his boys

07:44One of the Umayamas provokes Oz into assaulting him with a bucket.

07:48Enoshima uses this opportunity to dismiss Oz from the association as a sumo wrestler.

07:53He gives Enshou an ultimatum and asks him to either shut his stable down or dismiss

07:58Therefore, Enshou has no choice but to let Oz go.

08:01Okami-san, the illegitimate daughter of the head of the sumo association, offers to talk

08:05to her father about it, but Enshou turns her down.

08:09Even Kunishima, who has started to love sumo because of Oz and his disregard for customs,

08:13shows up outside Enoshima's house and begs him to change his decision.

08:17In the end, Rukoku's word makes Enoshima give in and withdraw his dismissal.

08:22Okami-san and Rukoku used to be together before Okami-san left him and married Enshou.

08:27Therefore, she calls Rukoku and asks him for a favor, and he delivers.

08:31However, Oz tries to leave the Enshou stable since he thinks he can no longer fight.

08:36Before he can leave, his mother arrives at the stable and tries to talk to him.

08:41She finds out he's saving up to get the family's sushi restaurant back and crudely

08:44tells him to stick to sumo wrestling.

08:46Oz realizes he is still responsible for his father's hospital bills and devotes himself

08:50to sumo.

08:52He trains harder and watches Enshou's old matches.

08:55Eventually, he begs Enshou to train him and puts in hours and hours for shiko and other

08:59training.

09:00Along the way, he starts respecting sumo and its customs.

09:04His passion fires up the rest of the Enshou stable, and the other boys start training

09:08vigorously too.

09:10The next time Umayama arrives at Enshou for a spar, Oz and the others thoroughly beat

09:14their competition.

09:15By now, Shizuchi returns to the tournament and gets paired against Oz again for their

09:19first matches.

09:21Oz's training has made him a better wrestler, but Shizuchi has years of experience compared

09:25to Oz.

09:26Moreover, Oz's past experience with Shizuchi might still be traumatizing even though he

09:30has worked through it with Enya and can now take a slap to the face without flinching.

09:35Still, the match is equally stacked since they both have something to prove.
