My name is Lawrence Yang. I'm a designer at Valve. I work on the Steam Deck team,

and we're here to announce Steam Deck is coming to Australia next month.

It has a lot of the guts of what would be in a gaming laptop, but shrunk down to a smaller size

with gaming controls or the screen that's appropriate for this kind of device.

And I would say because it runs SteamOS, it's purpose-built for playing video games.

It's purpose-built for playing computer games, and I think that's a big advantage of it.

I spent half an hour playing with the Steam Deck, and my first impressions were largely

pretty positive. It plays well, it feels great, and the operating system is amazingly intuitive.

Every option I needed or wanted to find I located easily.

On a technical level, the deck is brilliantly impressive machinery.

But it's still two and a half years late. Gamers hardcore enough to fork out that

much money already bought a third-party Steam Deck two years ago.

And honestly, the reason it took so long is very boring.

It's just we haven't had a presence where we could ship physical products in Australia before,

and we wanted to ship Steam Deck Direct instead of through a retailer

to have the direct relationship with our customers.

What's good, though, is now that we are set up to ship hardware here in Australia,

future hardware, including future versions of Steam Deck,
