00:00An opposition MP has raised concerns over the warm welcome given to two Chinese naval

00:07ships that docked in Penang last Saturday.

00:11Perikatan Nasional's Indira Mokuta MP, Saifuddin Abdullah, also criticised the move to allow

00:16the Chinese crew members to visit a school.

00:20He questioned whether the foreign ministry was consulted beforehand, or if the decision

00:24was made by the defence minister.

00:27Saifuddin, who was the foreign minister during the Ismail Sabri Yaakob administration, said

00:33the government should be more sensitive to public sentiment.

00:36He said this was especially crucial given the frequent reports of Chinese intrusions

00:41into waters near Sabah and Sarawak, and the protests Petronas has received regarding its

00:46activities in Kasawari.

00:49The Chinese naval ships, Qi Jiguang and Jinggangshan, docked in Penang on Saturday for a three-day

00:55goodwill visit, intended to enhance mutual trust between the Chinese and Malaysian navies.
