Kairos.
00:07
Sometimes things happen in the world of men, things so fantastic and magical that they
00:13
become legends.
00:15
This legend happened in ancient Greece, in the village of Eurydice, when a youth who
00:22
had traveled far, returned.
00:29
Mother!
00:32
Lysander!
00:35
Oh!
00:38
My son!
00:41
It's so good to be back!
00:46
Father!
00:48
Oh!
00:50
Lysander, my boy!
00:59
No, no, no!
01:00
You rest for a few days.
01:03
Father, I want to be with you in the fields.
01:05
Now that I am here, you don't have to work so hard.
01:13
The crop is almost ready.
01:15
I was thinking, we must plant millets before corn.
01:20
Millets grow faster.
01:21
That way we could have multiple crops in a year.
01:25
Son, Mother Nature has already given us so much.
01:29
We have enough.
01:34
But...
01:44
When I was coming here, I had to look for a place to cross the river by.
01:48
Why don't we build boats and some of us can run those boats and take travelers across
01:54
as a side business.
01:57
We have our fields.
02:00
Mother Nature has given us so much.
02:02
We have enough.
02:14
That night, a strange thing happened.
02:17
The sky seemed to split by a glowing shaft of light.
02:21
And from within it emerged a being.
02:24
Powerful.
02:25
Magnificent.
02:32
Who are you?
02:34
I am Kairos, the bringer of opportunity.
02:38
I come and I flash by.
02:40
It is up to you to catch me.
02:43
How?
02:45
How do we catch you, Kairos?
02:48
To catch me, you have to look for me.
02:50
Recognize me and then seize me.
02:53
I can appear anywhere, in any form.
02:56
Just remember, change, growth is the way of life.
03:01
If you choose to remain where you are, life will leave you behind.
03:08
So, if you want to grow, be always on the lookout for me, you people of Eurydice.
03:19
Find me. Seize me.
03:27
What?
03:30
Was I dreaming?
03:34
No, it was real.
03:41
Many weeks passed by.
03:43
The villagers could not shake the feeling that something, something big had happened that night.
03:50
And then, one day, a terrible storm broke out.
04:03
We must save the crop.
04:09
Help, help, everyone.
04:13
The villagers worked all day and all night, trying to save their crops.
04:22
But alas, a lot of that crop was lost.
04:27
What do we do now?
04:29
I thought that after being, Kairos came here, something good, something beautiful would happen.
04:37
But instead, this happened.
04:44
That night, the villagers went to bed miserable.
04:48
They couldn't sleep for a long time.
04:53
But then Lysander had a dream.
04:57
You have to look for me, recognize me, and then seize me.
05:03
I can appear anywhere, in any form.
05:06
Just remember, change, growth is the way of life.
05:11
If you choose to remain where you are, life will leave you behind.
05:16
So, if you want to grow, be always on the lookout for me, you people of Eurydice.
05:24
Find me, seize me.
05:28
You remember what I said.
05:30
So why don't you seize me?
05:32
I am here, find me.
05:34
Don't let me leave, seize me.
05:38
Seize me, seize me.
05:44
Wait, wait, what?
05:49
He's here, how?
05:52
A storm and opportunity, how?
06:01
Do we remember what Kairos had said?
06:06
How does it matter what he said?
06:08
He has brought disaster to our village.
06:11
Maybe Mother Nature is angry at us.
06:15
Or maybe this is Kairos coming to us in the form of a storm.
06:19
What do you mean?
06:21
Father, if we had grown millets before corn, those millets would have been sold by now.
06:27
And we would have been able to make better sheds for our crop.
06:31
The storm would not have hurt us so much.
06:33
You are right.
06:35
But all is not lost.
06:37
We can still use the fallen trees to make boats.
06:41
Lots of people will now need boats to cross the swollen river and the silt.
06:46
The river has brought with it so much silt.
06:49
If we can plant vegetables now, we could have a crop later this year.
06:54
Oh yes, yes, we could.
07:00
But, but where do we get the seeds from?
07:04
On my way back here, I had bought a few bags of seeds.
07:08
We could use those and plus there are many vegetables that we can easily grow here.
07:13
And they don't need seeds.
07:16
Of course, we could still turn this around.
07:20
We really could.
07:22
We are proud of you, Kairos.
07:25
Where did you learn all this?
07:30
I didn't make my father send me to seed the world for nothing.
07:34
I have learned quite a few things on my journey.
07:37
So, the villagers seized the opportunity.
07:41
Some started making bull boats.
07:43
Others planted vegetables in the now rich soil.
07:46
By the end of the year, they had more than what they had expected.
07:57
With the money, we will build better sheds and get more seeds.
08:03
And I am building a little lake that will store the water of the river.
08:09
So that we always have plenty of water.
08:12
If we had a storm once, we could have had a drought another year.
08:16
That is a splendid idea.
08:21
So, the villagers continued their simple hard working lives.
08:25
But this time with eyes open for opportunities and constructive change.
08:31
A few years passed by.
08:35
Father, why can't you get me a blue silk rope too?
08:40
Because you don't need it.
08:42
But you have the money.
08:44
Just because we have the money, that does not mean we waste it, okay?
08:49
Believe us.
08:53
If we thought you needed one more coat, we would have bought it for you.
08:59
Then why did you make our village so poor?
09:02
Then why did you make our village so rich?
09:05
Why did you tell me about Karos? I don't understand at all.
09:13
Lysander, Lysander, did you hear?
09:18
What?
09:19
In the village of Marcellus, there was a terrible quake.
09:23
So many houses and even their crops have been destroyed.
09:28
My brother lives there. They...
09:31
We must help.
09:33
Then we have decided.
09:35
We will help the villagers of Marcellus by sending boatloads of grain of course at no cost.
09:43
And clothes.
09:44
Two doctors of our village will go there.
09:47
And some of us will go there to help them construct houses.
09:50
Taking some money too, right?
09:54
Agreed.
09:55
But before we help anyone, we must take permission.
10:00
Permission?
10:01
From whom?
10:03
From our children.
10:05
What?
10:10
How can the children take such import?
10:14
What do you want to do?
10:26
Now, here is everything you all have wanted.
10:29
Toys, clothes, more pocket money.
10:34
But there are people in Marcellus who have lost their homes.
10:37
They don't have any food, no blankets, no medicines.
10:43
Now here is our money.
10:45
Where do you think we should spend it?
10:48
In that pile or that one?
10:56
That one. That one for sure.
11:11
Money belongs to everyone.
11:13
Just because we have it with us, that does not mean we own all of it.
11:20
Money must be shared and used for the good of all.
11:23
Remember, if we learn to grow and to share,
11:26
Mother Nature has given us all enough.
11:29
That is what the legend of Kairos teaches us.
11:33
What our prosperity could not teach our children,
11:36
you used a disaster to teach it to them.
11:39
Kairos must be happy.
11:41
The legend of Kairos has been handed down for centuries.
11:45
Because indeed, the opportunity to grow,
11:49
whether in terms of money, knowledge or wisdom,
11:52
comes unannounced.
11:54
We must have the ability to look for it,
11:57
find it and seize it.
