You know, if your morning is straight, your day is straight.
00:04
And when your day is straight, your life is straight.
00:07
So it's like you're saying, when your morning is good, your life is good.
00:11
When your morning can be salat on time, istighfar,
00:15
it begins with a beautiful supplication to Allah between you and nobody else there,
00:20
just you and Allah there, and you get to have a conversation with Allah that morning,
00:24
that entire day you will enjoy the blessings of that experience.
00:28
Everything about that day will be blessed.
00:30
You will wake up late, you will pray salat half asleep, you will do all of that stuff,
00:34
and it will have an impact on the rest of your day.
00:37
And when you do that istighfar to Allah in the beginning of that day,
00:40
that day has barakah, which makes you more sabir, more sadiq, more qanit.
00:46
All of these qualities, you get more and more of them because you started with that.
00:51
On the one hand, you have those who want to shun the world.
00:53
And on the other hand, you have those who want to embrace the world and say,
00:56
you know, making more money and enjoying more dunya, etc.
00:59
It's part of life and we have to do it, etc. etc.
01:02
Without consideration for the spiritual harm of indulging.
01:06
The harms of going into indulgence.
01:09
Because it can really slowly start eating away at your heart.
01:12
You know, from personal experience, and I'm sure you've experienced this too,
01:15
the more dunya we immerse ourselves in, even though Allah has made much of it halal on us,
01:21
the more we immerse ourselves in it, the harder it becomes for us to be spiritually connected to Allah.
01:26
It starts getting harder and harder. It's harder to cry in salat.
01:29
It gets harder to concentrate in a dua.
01:31
It just gets harder.
01:33
The more movies you're gonna watch, the less Quran you're gonna like to listen to.
01:37
It's just, it's not a fatwa, it's just gonna happen.
01:40
That's just how it is. That's just how life is.
01:43
So, this balance is something one has to learn.
01:47
And so, those who are subservient.
01:50
And of course, if this world has been beautified,
01:54
but Allah has beautified the next world far more.
01:57
He has beautified that next world far, far more.
02:00
Then, infaq is actually a key to strengthening one's faith in the afterlife.
02:07
Why?
02:08
Spending in the path of Allah, as I've described before, is depositing in your next life.
02:13
You know, there are some accounts and some investments like IRAs and things like that.
02:17
You don't get to retrieve those funds until you're 59 and a half years old.
02:21
Right? You're in your retirement age.
02:23
Now you can retrieve those funds.
02:26
Okay?
02:27
Us spending in the path of Allah is essentially a retirement plan.
02:31
That's essentially what that is.
02:33
And the more money you put in it, the more you're looking forward to withdrawal day.
02:38
If you haven't put much in it, then you're enjoying life now.
02:41
But if you start putting money away, it's not money you have access to right now.
02:46
It's not.
02:47
But the only thing that consoles a person is,
02:50
you know what? It's better for me in the long run.
02:53
And you know, you'll find people, even in the worldly sense,
02:56
there are people who just want the monetary benefits right now.
02:59
They're not able to invest in long term investments.
03:01
They don't have that kind of patience.
03:03
When the business opportunity comes and it says,
03:05
you're gonna get the return on your investment in about 10 years.
03:08
10 years? No thanks.
03:10
I'd rather hold on to my money right now.
03:12
Even if it's not gonna grow or multiply over time,
03:14
I don't have that kind of long term thing.
03:17
I'm too impatient for that.
03:19
Where did this ayah begin?
03:21
As-sabirin.
03:22
People who are going to engage in a long term investment have to have what to begin with?
03:26
Have to have patience.
03:28
They have to have patience.
03:29
And if they have that patience, then when they get to that subservience and the call is made,
03:33
they're able to spend without a problem.
03:35
They're able to let go of one of the things that gives them,
03:38
what gives us comfort in life is money.
03:40
Without money, you can be in discomfort.
03:43
And money is a source of comfort.
03:45
And then the next comfort that even the poorest one enjoys is sleep.
03:49
That's one form of comfort everybody can have.
03:52
You know, even the one in torment in life,
03:55
when they're asleep, they're asleep.
03:57
All their problems are gone.
03:59
At least during those hours of sleep, right?
04:02
So that next piece of life that one really enjoys,
04:06
it's been taken away because someone who really wants the akhirah,
04:10
is al-mustaghfirina bil-ashar.
04:13
And those who make istighfar at what time?
04:15
Early mornings, they sacrifice their sleep.
04:18
They take away that other comfort, that comfort that everybody has.
04:20
So there's a special comfort from money.
04:22
They start letting go of that,
04:24
for an eventual comfort.
04:25
And then there's a daily comfort, and that is that of sleep.
04:28
You know, people can hate anything else.
04:31
They'll love sleep.
04:33
They just, sleep is something, I know kids hate it.
04:37
Right?
04:38
But then they, you know, and most kids, they hate waking up.
04:42
They're really cranky when they, if they hate sleeping,
04:44
once they fall into it, they love it.
04:47
Wasali'u ila maghfiratin min rabbikum.
04:49
And rush to forgiveness that comes from your master.
04:52
Wajannatin arduhassamawatu wal-ard.
04:55
And a jannah, a garden,
04:57
whose expanse is the skies and the earth.
04:59
Wa'iddat, it has been thoroughly prepared,
05:01
completely prepared, for people that have taqwa.
05:04
Allahumma ja'ala minhum.
05:05
People of taqwa, for the people of taqwa who are cautious.
05:07
This time the people of caution,
05:09
are given characteristics, qualities.
05:11
Who are these people of taqwa?
05:13
What does that mean practically?
05:15
Allatheena yunfiqoona fis-sarra'i wal-darra'.
05:17
The opposite of riba.
05:19
Riba is you hold on to your money so it can multiply,
05:21
and you can collect more.
05:23
The opposite is you keep giving it up.
05:24
Those who spend, the muttaqeen who spend,
05:27
in al-sarra'i wal-darra',
05:29
in easy times and in hard times.
05:31
Darra' when times are hard and tough.
05:33
Wal-kathi min al-ghaitha'.
05:35
So first of all you have an attitude of spending all the time.
05:38
You never spare an opportunity for that.
05:40
The second is al-kathi min al-ghaitha'.
05:42
Kathama can mean to swallow.
05:44
One of its meanings is to swallow.
05:46
But there's another meaning also.
05:47
They say, for example,
05:49
Kathama al-siqaa'.
05:50
Al-siqaa' is a container of water.
05:52
When you fill it to the top and unclose it,
05:54
so no water gets out,
05:55
but it's got to be filled to the top,
05:56
that's Kathama,
05:57
to fill something to the top.
05:59
Kaveem or Kaveem is a person,
06:02
they say is,
06:03
or actually before that,
06:04
Kaveem,
06:05
Kaveem the word,
06:06
Kaveem the ism,
06:07
is actually for the nasal passage.
06:09
And the Arabs would,
06:11
in their imagery,
06:12
and they would speak figuratively,
06:14
they would say when someone's angry,
06:15
they're Kaveem.
06:16
Which means their nasal passage is full of anger up to here.
06:21
Like all the way up to the end of their nasal passage,
06:23
they're filled with anger.
06:25
You know, people say,
06:26
I've had it up to here.
06:28
I've had it up to there.
06:29
Well, they'd say, they've had it up to here.
06:31
Like their breathing is now filled with rage.
06:34
But it hasn't come out yet.
06:36
In other words,
06:37
Kaveem is someone who's extremely enraged,
06:40
but it hasn't left the insides of him yet.
06:44
It hasn't come out yet.
06:48
So those who swallow or keep inside,
06:50
Al Ghayb.
06:51
The anger that rushes,
06:53
makes your blood rush.
06:55
The anger that makes you just go,
06:57
and you clench your fist,
06:59
and you start shaking.
07:01
This is Al Ghayb.
07:02
Okay?
07:03
But Ghayb also is the kind of anger that you,
07:06
it's still before retaliation.
07:07
It's what you feel before retaliation.
07:10
You could say,
07:11
anger is bad if you do something about it.
07:13
But if you just sit there,
07:14
and you just make faces,
07:15
and just go grrr,
07:16
then it's not bad.
07:17
Well actually,
07:18
if you do something about it,
07:19
that's called Ghadab.
07:20
That's the kind of anger that's called Ghadab.
07:23
Short of that is,
07:25
Ghayb.
07:26
Ghadab is you're so angry,
07:27
you're ready to do something.
07:28
Whatever it may be.
07:29
Musa Alayhi Salaam came back to his nation,
07:31
Ghadbaana Asifan.
07:33
He came with Ghadab.
07:34
Did he do something?
07:35
Oh yeah.
07:36
Okay?
07:37
Ghayb is you have rage,
07:38
but you don't do something about it yet.
07:41
Even that isn't a good thing.
07:43
He got angry,
07:44
but he didn't do anything.
07:45
Allah is saying,
07:46
it shouldn't even,
07:47
Yes, they feel angry,
07:48
but they have self-control enough
07:50
that they're able to swallow it,
07:51
not even let it show on their face.
07:53
That's the kind of self-control
07:55
they have on themselves.
07:56
ููุงููุนูุงููููู ุนููู ุงููููุงุณู
07:58
And those who lovingly pardon.
08:01
Al-'afu also means to not punish.
08:04
It also means someone who is ready for punishment,
08:06
you had the power to punish them,
08:07
and you decided,
08:08
no, it's okay.
08:09
Clean slate for you.
08:11
This is Al-'afu.
08:13
ููุงููุนูุงููููู ุนููู ุงููููุงุณู
08:15
And those who are ready and willing to pardon people.
08:18
ููุงูููููู ููุญูุจูู ุงููู ูุญูุณูููููู
08:20
And Allah,
08:21
He loves those who excel.
08:22
Allah in fact is the one who loves those who excel.
08:24
So the ayah began with taqwa,
08:26
and it graduates to ihsan.
08:28
That's an important observation.
08:30
Taqwa is already there,
08:31
but people who because of their taqwa
08:33
are able to accomplish these qualities in their life,
08:35
then they will have reached the highest state
08:37
that the believer can enjoy,
08:38
and that is of ihsan.
08:40
The same progression of how taqwa leads to ihsan
08:43
will be mentioned in Surah Al-Ma'idah.
08:45
ุซูู ูู ุงูุชูููููููุง ุขู ููููุง ุซูู ูู ุงูุชูููููููุง
08:48
ุงุญุณููููุง
08:49
Taqwa leading to ihsan will be mentioned later on also.
08:52
Now Allah mentions these same people,
08:54
people of taqwa,
08:56
they're gonna have to spend when it's easy, when it's hard,
08:59
implying it's not always gonna be easy for them to spend,
09:02
their anger will be tested,
09:04
people will do offenses against them,
09:06
and they will use that opportunity to find forgiveness for them.
09:09
Then Allah adds,
09:10
ููุงูููุฐูููู ุฅูุฐูุง ููุนููููุง ููุงุญูุดูุฉู
09:13
Those are the very people that if and when,
09:16
when the situation arises that they have committed mindlessly,
09:19
ููุนููููุง, they didn't think about it, they just did it,
09:21
they were impulsive,
09:22
ููุงุญูุดูุฉ is anything that brings you close to zina.
09:25
The shari'i technical definition that Mufassirun give,
09:28
ุงูููุงุญูุดูุฉ ูู ุงูุชู ุชูููุฑููุจููู ุฅูููู ุงูุฒููููุงุก
09:32
Whatever will bring you close to fornication adultery,
09:34
that's fahisha.
09:35
Whether that be a glance,
09:37
whether that be something you're looking at online,
09:39
whether it's something on a computer or TV screen,
09:41
whether it's filthy words,
09:43
whether it's filthy music,
09:44
whatever it may be, it can take many forms.
09:46
In simple terms you can say whatever is lewd,
09:49
shameless, vulgar, indecent,
09:51
that's fahisha.
09:52
Okay?
09:53
And it says ููุงุญูุดูุฉู, it's nakira,
09:55
which implies they do,
09:56
they mindlessly do any act of shamelessness,
09:59
it happens.
10:00
They did something indecent,
10:03
and they got impulsive and they committed such an act,
10:05
not the worst of it,
10:06
a zina, anything short of that too.
10:08
ุฃูููุธูููุจููุง ุฃููููุณูููู ู
10:10
Or wronged themselves in any other way.
10:13
In other words,
10:14
fahisha is not the only kind of wrongdoing,
10:16
maybe they got angry and said something they shouldn't have said,
10:18
they weren't able to swallow their anger,
10:20
right, and they said something,
10:22
maybe they got jealous,
10:23
maybe they lied, maybe they cheated,
10:25
maybe they just got away from trouble with their parents,
10:28
they kind of made a little white lie,
10:29
not that harmful, but they, you know,
10:31
how's it going, everything's fine,
10:33
yes, it's okay,
10:34
where are you, in the masjid?
10:35
You're not in the masjid.
10:38
Okay.
10:39
Did you go to class?
10:40
Yes, of course.
10:42
Of course I was in class.
10:44
You know.
10:45
So,
10:47
it's not that big of a deal.
10:49
Any other kind of wrongdoing also,
10:51
ุฐูููุฑููุง ุงูููููู
10:52
They immediately remembered Allah.
