Thai authorities and conservationists are working to rescue over 100 elephants and other animals, after flash floods hit Chiang Mai province on Friday (Oct 4).

Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said an operation is underway to save them.

00:18So far, 117 elephants have been rescued, with nine still needing help.
00:24Conservationist Sengdwan Chailert reported that pigs and buffaloes remain stranded in
00:28a village that was completely flooded.
00:59A herd of elephants could be seen running to escape the floodwaters in a video posted
01:05on social media by Sengdwan, who is the founder of the Elephant Nature Park.
01:11She said the last elephant ran slower than the rest of the herd because she was blind.
01:21Northern Thailand has faced severe flooding since August, causing 49 deaths and displacing
01:27thousands of households.
