The dumbest Player of the Match award I've encountered was from a 2011 KKR vs KTK match. Kochi successfully defended 132 against KKR. Mahela Jayawardene was given Player of the Match for his 25 off 27 balls ahead of Ravindra Jadeja, who top-scored for Kochi hitting 29 off 18 balls and took 2-25 in 4 overs. Jadeja deserved to be Player of the Match. Some argue that Jayawardene's captaincy and successful bowling changes influenced the outcome, but shouldn't that be part of a captain's job?
