Birmingham City extend winning streak to seven games with victory over Huddersfield

00:00Birmingham City have won seven league games in a row for the first time since 1946. Blues coming

00:08out 1-0 victors over Huddersfield Town tonight, a game which last year would have been the

00:13championship. This year though the Terriers down in 10th position before tonight's game and dropping

00:18even further after their defeat. Blues though absolutely dominant in the second half in

00:23particular. In the first half I mean they struggled to get going a little bit, Huddersfield did press

00:27them high as we've seen from many teams this season. Oppositions like to throw a bit of energy

00:32at Blues trying to unsettle them, push them into that defensive third and cause some trouble for

00:36the goalkeeper whether it be Bailey Peacock Farrell in previous weeks or Ryan Olsop who

00:41got the nod tonight. It has been difficult in the start of games but once Blues settle

00:45and they did tonight with the midfield partnership of Iwata and Paik they just don't look like going

00:50back at all and only one nil on the night but it could have been two, three, maybe even four

00:55had the likes of Jay Stansfield and Alfie May taking chances. Alfie May was the man to score

01:01the winnings tonight, his fifth goal of the season of course. Last year's league one top scorer,

01:06league one players player of the year as well. He's kind of the man that if in doubt Alfie May

01:12should get you the goal though in the first half he described it as his worst miss ever in his

01:18career. Missing from about a yard out, Willem Willemsen had gone on an amazing run, gone about

01:23past about three or four different Huddersfield players before dinking over the goalkeeper and

01:27then Alfie May on the line almost like a rabbit in headlights heads it over the bar. I think

01:33as a striker's instinct he's trying to nod it in, make sure it goes in but what he's actually done

01:38is heads it over the crossbar and done a bit of a defender's clearance so Huddersfield have been

01:42happy for that one but in the end in the second half Alfie May did get his goal, he made amends.

01:48Jay Stansfield, great work from him, very unselfish. He'd missed two or three chances

01:52earlier in the game so would have been very easy for Stansfield to try and tuck it away himself

01:56but he squared it to May for an open goal and that in the end proved to be the difference. So

02:01had Jay been a little bit more selfish and missed the chance then Blues could have gone away nil

02:06nil here and feeling quite frustrated. But as it is, seven wins in eight games. The last time

02:11they didn't win was the opening day against Reading and they're now up to 22 points,

02:16five points clear of Wrexham and Blues have a game in hand.
