Community Litter Pickers Celebrate Their 11th Birthday!

00:00Hi, I'm Peter Scott, Councillor Peter Scott and we are the Newport Shropshire Community

00:05Litter Pickers. Well we are celebrating because we've now been together for 11 years this month,

00:1111 years of keeping the Newport area clean and tidy. We're a community litter pick so we invite

00:18anyone to come along and join us and I'm very pleased to say that not only do we litter pick

00:23in the area but now we've got lots of individuals and their families that go out on their own and

00:29all work to make Newport a much tidier place. A huge difference because when we started

00:35it was to do with getting all the long-standing litter that had been around for years.

00:39Once we cleared that it became a lot easier on a regular basis to pick litter and yes,

00:45people from outside the town will tell us that Newport is probably the tidiest town in Shropshire.

00:51So they do it because they want to do it, they go out, they walk the dog, they walk the children

00:55and they take a bag of the litter picker with them and they do a lot towards making

01:00Newport a tidy place. It is very much, we talk about pride in your high street,

01:04we've got pride in the whole town and that's what we'll continue to do.
