00:00Hey it's Troye Sivan and this is how it went down for my song One of Your Girls.

00:12So weirdly One of Your Girls actually started in kind of a sad way. Oscar Górez was in LA,

00:17he's a producer from Sweden and he was going through some like personal stuff at the time

00:23and he was feeling kind of down and so he went into the studio and started building this track

00:28and he recorded like the little vocal thing that you hear in the very beginning of the song.

00:35I was freaking out, I was like totally, totally obsessed with it and weirdly that weekend there

00:41was this one particular guy who had been flirting with me for a really long time. I had never been

00:46with a guy before and I said to him, I texted him, let me know if you're feeling gay on Saturday

00:50night because he said sometimes he feels to be gay when he like drinks and so then I come in

00:54on Monday full of this like inspiration. We wrote the verses first about this like this guy that

01:00everybody wants and that you know like girls want him, guys want him, tall and has good style and

01:05like has good taste. It just really started with this like pining and this yearning and then we

01:10got stuck on the chorus. We wrote the pre-chorus that day, we had the like bass card and I thought

01:15that was so sick and I was really obsessed with it and I was like this chorus has to be amazing.

01:19I was filming The Idol at the time. Abel the weekend actually showed me this YouTube video.

01:24It was this like sad robot. I just felt really like empathetic for this robot and I was like

01:29wow he feels so disconnected and I don't know something resonated in me. I felt like the sad

01:34robot for a little bit about this guy and so I was like okay so the chorus should have

01:38vocoder, it should like kind of sound like it's got this disconnect you know where it's me but

01:43it's not me and I was making myself laugh in the shower. I was like trying to imagine saying to the

01:47guy like bro it'll be chill, I'll just be like one of your girls or your homies like I can just

01:51be a friend. I stepped out of the shower, recorded it, came back into the studio and the chorus

01:56kind of was there and the last kind of moment where it really all came together, the chorus flips

02:01and it changes to give me a call if you ever get desperate, I'll be like one of your girls. There

02:06was a lot of times where I really felt like I was kind of laying on the tracks for these people

02:10that I wanted so bad that maybe didn't want me back in the way that I wanted them to or you know

02:15wanted me in some ways but not in others and yeah just kind of like my complicated

02:19and mixed feelings about where I sat in the situation as well.

02:27Once we had the concept one of your girls and we had the chorus it was like immediate,

02:31I was like okay I need to be a girl in the video, we've got to cast the hottest man in the universe

02:35to sit in like a chair and I'm going to be dancing around him whatever it's like black

02:39and white and beautiful whatever so it kind of just like all came all at once. The most

02:44challenging part was probably just getting into drag, it took me like you know three hours. I

02:48learned some choreo, I learned how to walk in heels, I started to feel really cute, I was like

02:52okay this might actually work and then I flew to New York and the guy that we cast pulled out

02:57pulled out that day. I was racking my brain trying to think about who is the hottest man in the

03:03universe then it kind of clicked that it was Ross, it was Ross Lynch all along and so I reached out

03:09to Ross, he said yes, he flew overnight and he came and he just was so chill so so nice. I was

03:15doing this weird thing where I was trying to make him feel comfortable so like I'm pretty sure the

03:18first time I saw him I like kind of dabbed him up but I'm in like full drag, it was a crazy moment.

03:24I appreciate him so much and we had a really really fun special day. Once we had the video down I

03:31was pretty much like leaking it like I was sending it to all of my friends, my parents were pulling

03:36pranks on their friends, playing them the music video, being like what do you think of this girl

03:40in Troy's video, people were like oh yeah she's really pretty and then they would be like it's

03:44Troy. We were all I think having a lot of fun with it, it was nice.

03:54I mean the reaction to One of Your Girls was so huge and I think the thing that was super

04:00gratifying to me was that people were really connecting with the story of the song and I

04:03think the story of the video and I think that you know it was important to me that like of course

04:07I wanted to be this like glamazon corseted and wind in her hair and all that but at the same

04:12time I think that like underneath it all there had to be these like cracks that showed through

04:16and the kind of like vulnerability had to be there and it had to communicate what the song

04:20communicated. I was so proud when when I started to feel like people were responding to it in

04:25a way that I hoped that they would. A year down the line it's like I've had all of the moments

04:28that I could have ever wanted with this song. It was always my favorite song on the album, I always

04:32was like I think this is going to be the biggest song on the album now that it basically is it's like

04:37just feels feels good.
