Welcome back to Bagong Pilipinas.
00:09
We have activities and preparations for this year's Cooperative Month.
00:14
Joining us this year is the Cooperative Development Authority Assistant Secretary, Mirla Paradillo.
00:21
Asik Paradillo, good afternoon to you.
00:24
Good afternoon, Ms. Nina, and to all the listeners and viewers of your program.
00:30
How is your preparation for this upcoming Cooperative Month?
00:35
And what is the theme of your celebration this year?
00:39
Yes, our theme today is Cooperative Stronger Together Today for a Brighter Future.
00:45
We are ready and we are ready to kick off come October 1.
00:50
And all the programs are already spread out from our office in the central office and to all the regional offices.
00:58
Okay.
00:59
You said that this Cooperative Month will be held in different regions, right?
01:06
Who are the people who are expected to attend or will be a part of this celebration?
01:12
Of course, the first people who will be a part of this are the stakeholders, all the cooperatives across the country.
01:19
In each region, we always have our government offices partners, and of course, the LGU is there to support our coop.
01:31
In the national, we have a program that is simultaneously celebrated by the whole country.
01:39
We also have the Committee on Coop in the Senate and Congress, and still our national government offices of our partners.
01:49
So, what are the specific activities that you are preparing for this celebration?
01:54
This October 1, we have a kick-off activity that will be held at NovoTel in Cabo Quezon City
02:01
where our partners and the Committee on Coop in the Senate and Congress will attend.
02:08
They will give a message of support for this month's celebration.
02:13
Our partners and coops will still be with us at the kick-off.
02:20
Next, we will have summits in different clusters of coops nationwide.
02:28
Our culmination will be on October 29, wherein we will hold the Gawad Parangal
02:37
where the coops will give awards, and our government partners will also be given recognition.
02:47
Okay, regarding the kick-off, are there any simultaneous events that will be held in different parts of the country?
02:54
Yes, our kick-off will be held after lunch, that's at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
03:01
Because in the morning, we are used to kick-off in each region or each office of the CDA
03:09
together with the sectors in their respective localities.
03:13
Okay, regarding the theme of Cooperative Month,
03:16
what are the programs and priorities of the Cooperative Development Authority from here?
03:23
The CDA has a lot of programs in our cooperatives.
03:28
But in our theme, we focus on merger and consolidation
03:36
because it's a fact that we have billionaires cooperatives in the country.
03:41
But it is also a fact that most of our registered cooperatives are small and micro.
03:47
So, we have a program where we convince our coops together with the LGUs
03:54
because if a small cooperative is weak, if we bring it together, they will become strong.
04:02
And we will build a coop that is not just a coop today, but tomorrow it will be gone.
04:07
So, it is a coop that we really expect that its members will be able to maintain it
04:12
until they are able to provide for their children or grandchildren.
04:18
There is a fund where the three cooperatives will be given a CDA of P500,000
04:27
and the five cooperatives will be given P750,000
04:31
and if there are more than five, the authority will be given P1 million.
04:35
So, we focus on the small, we will make it big and strong.
04:40
In order for our countrymen to understand,
04:43
maybe the small and medium sectors are listening to us,
04:48
that they can join and become cooperatives and if they are not cooperatives yet,
04:53
how can we convince them?
04:55
For those who are not cooperatives, we encourage them to join where there are cooperatives in their locality.
05:04
We do not encourage cooperatives to be placed next to each other.
05:10
If there are cooperatives in your locality, join them.
05:14
And the small cooperatives in one locality,
05:18
we will bring them together to form a big cooperative where all the needs of the members will be met.
05:25
We do not need to separate or separate each other.
05:32
I hope we can work together to become a strong and prosperous cooperative.
05:40
Yes, those are the things to consolidate.
05:43
For example, in the transport sector, in farming, in weaving,
05:49
but for example, the transport sector is a bit controversial now.
05:53
Ma'am, I know you want to explain something.
05:56
I know very briefly, it is hard to wait for the time,
05:59
but what can you tell us about this so that we can understand?
06:02
Maybe there are jeepney drivers who have not been convinced yet.
06:05
How can we convince them?
06:08
It is simple.
06:10
If we used to be operators, we used to drive from dawn to dusk to earn a thousand pesos,
06:19
that is no longer the case.
06:21
We will form a co-op together,
06:23
we will run units owned by the cooperative,
06:26
where we are paid an 8-hour minimum wage.
06:31
We also have SSS, we also have love benefits,
06:34
if there are regular employees, there are also.
06:37
We will adapt to modern transport,
06:41
because in the whole of Asia, or maybe not just Asia,
06:44
we are the only ones who have this kind of operator system.
06:49
It is better for our health to be taken care of,
06:53
because it is not good to work from dawn to dusk for a thousand pesos.
06:59
So our work is only 8 hours,
07:02
we are paid, we have benefits,
07:04
and at the end of the year,
07:06
how much does our transport co-op earn,
07:09
this is divided by each member.
07:12
How about the operators,
07:14
because they don't want to be operators,
07:18
the control will be lost.
07:19
Yes, our old system,
07:21
it will no longer be a system,
07:25
because our old jeep is not safe for the passenger and safe for the driver,
07:31
because we know that all the materials there are not brand new,
07:35
they are just combined.
07:37
But then, we have been waiting for a long time,
07:41
let's try the modern jeepney,
07:43
where there are a lot of countries where the members are ascending,
07:47
and it also provides not only a big job generation,
07:53
we will employ mechanics,
07:56
it will give a lot of jobs to our ordinary people.
08:02
And very quickly, on food security,
08:04
because I know that it is a priority of our administration,
08:07
how will you convince our farmers to be cooperative,
08:10
because it is hard, as you said,
08:12
to look at the land that they are planting.
08:16
Now, the CDA provides 3-in-1 equipment for the farmers.
08:26
If we give everything to the farmers,
08:29
the government will not be able to do it.
08:31
But if we, small farmers,
08:34
work together,
08:35
we can all benefit from the help of the government.
08:38
The government cannot enter small places and look at you.
08:42
But if you combine 1 hectare,
08:45
if in your community there are 200 hectares owned by each of you,
08:50
if we combine it,
08:52
the government will help you to give additional capital
08:55
and modernized mechanization.
08:59
You used to harvest up to 10 or 50 cabans,
09:06
but now you can earn 80 per hectare
09:10
because of the mechanization provided by the government.
09:13
It is a huge advantage.
09:15
If small farmers are listening,
09:18
go to the Department of Agriculture,
09:22
the CDA is already doing this,
09:25
because this is the directive of our President,
09:29
to bring together small-scale farmers
09:32
so that the government's help will reach them.
09:36
You are already big,
09:37
so the government is focused on you.
09:39
Because we really need to work together for our food security.
09:44
We produce too much if we work together.
09:49
I hope you will have more workshops and training
09:54
to make our countrymen understand.
09:56
Yesterday, we asked the Sugar Regulatory Authority,
10:03
and they said that one of the big problems is that it does not consolidate.
10:07
If you are alone and your land is small,
10:11
they only earn 4,000 a month.
10:14
But if you work together,
10:16
it will increase to 12,000 to 15,000 a month.
10:19
So it's a big jump if our farmers work together.
10:23
I hope the local government units will help us understand.
10:28
Actually, Ms. Nina, our partner is the LGU.
10:31
We are going around to make the local executives understand
10:35
to call the co-ops and we will explain.
10:38
I hope the LGU really supports this.
10:42
Okay.
10:43
Well, let's go back to the programs that the CDA can focus on this year
10:48
with the establishment of Cooperative Month.
10:53
There are a lot of programs.
10:55
Each CDA has 6 clusters.
11:00
All of them are focused on their own clusters.
11:03
22 types of cooperatives divided into 6 clusters.
11:06
All of them are focused.
11:08
But we focus more on the agri-sector
11:11
because that is a directive from the President
11:16
to take care of the farmers for food security.
11:21
Now, the CDA is giving equipment for 10 per region.
11:27
And this October, there are 15 co-ops per region
11:32
that will give P400,000 for their additional capital.
11:36
So we are focused especially on agri-sector.
11:39
Okay.
11:40
Do you have a message for our countrymen?
11:43
If there are small farmers cooperatives listening,
11:47
even if they are not farmers,
11:49
if there are small and micro cooperatives,
11:51
I hope we can adopt and implement the program of the government
11:55
of merger and consolidation
11:57
where the government gives additional capital.
12:00
For you, I hope we don't open our minds
12:06
on how to grow and become more sensible.
12:09
Let's not get used to being small until we grow old.
12:13
Where can they coordinate?
12:16
To the extension offices and our field officers,
12:19
just ask for merger and consolidation.
12:22
We have done that in many regions.
12:26
We are willing to help all the way
12:28
until you merge your new registration.
12:32
Okay. Stronger together.
12:34
Yes.
12:35
Thank you very much for your time,
12:37
Cooperative Development Authority,
12:39
Assistant Secretary Mirla Paradillo.
12:42
Thank you very much to all the listeners and PTB4.
12:45
Thank you for the opportunity.
