00:06Mahmood and Haseenur. So, guys, the biggest shock that we came today, it was a shock that

00:13Shakib suddenly comes up at the press conference and announces the retirement. What was your

00:17thoughts when you heard him speak about his retirement?

00:21I was very much puzzled. It was a shock as you mentioned. Actually, I was stunned. Okay,

00:28we are not expecting about that. We thought that Shakib will come and explain his injury

00:32situation. There was a controversy regarding his injury in his finger, a bowling finger.

00:37So we are expecting that Shakib will clear up this kind of thing. But we didn't expect

00:42that he will say retirement and not one format, but two formats. Yeah, especially I was shocked

00:48on the test format. I was expecting Shakib should play this format as long as he can

00:53because he was very comfortable in test matches and Bangladesh did most during, I think, in

01:05So what were your thoughts and how would be the reaction back home in Bangladesh? I mean,

01:11it's an important test match coming up with India, Bangladesh are 1-0 down already in

01:15the series and then they have some bigger assignments coming across their way. But with

01:19no Shakib and Shakib just announcing his retirement, what are the sentiments back home?

01:25You know, Shakib Alassane is our legend. Everyone was shocked. Definitely everyone was shocked.

01:29I saw some of our colleagues are crying in the press conference. They are so emotional

01:34back in the home. You know, in Bangladesh, cricket is not just a game. It's our religion.

01:38It's our blood, everything. It's our everything. We sleep in cricket, we eat cricket. Shakib

01:42Alassane is our legend. Everyone was emotional. I talked to many of my colleagues in Bangladesh.

01:47Everyone was emotional, the fans were emotional. But you know, you have to definitely, you

01:51have to maintain that situation. Maybe this is the correct time to say goodbye to Shakib

01:56Alassane.

01:57Let's talk about Shakib Alassane's impact on not just in Bangladesh cricket, impact

02:03across sports. If you look at, how do you look at his legacy now that we can talk about

02:08his legacy?

02:09If you see the all-rounder ranking, he was there for a very, very long time. Maybe after

02:15Jack Kelly's, he was the pure all-rounder. He was the number one all-rounder in test

02:19format, in ODI format, even in the T20 format. But not just for a while. It's a very long

02:24time. He dominated this table for at least 10 years. So it shows that how impactful he

02:31was. He was an IPL winner with KKR also. So it shows his potential, not only in Bangladeshi

02:38cricket, also in the world cricket. I think he was a very, very, very good all-rounder,

02:44especially for a left-hand bowler. He could be an idol for many other left-hand bowlers.

02:49So, Shakib didn't, the most important thing, Shakib didn't have very much swing on his

02:55ball. He didn't have many assets in his armoury, actually. But he was very clever. He can read

03:02the batter very well. He can read the situation of the game. With little resources, he done

03:08brilliant.

03:09Now, how would you rate Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh team? I mean, after

03:14Mushafir Murtaza, if you look at, he has been the one who's been leading them. Playing 70

03:18tests already is not a mean feat. But if you look at his captaincy legacy, how would you

03:24rate it? And what were the highlights of his captaincy?

03:28In Bangladesh, we have many problems. We have probability problems, we have population problems,

03:32many problems. But Shakib Al Hasan is the fast guy, good fast stand. Yeah, I'm the top,

03:36I'm the world number one. So, his captaincy is a little bit controversial. When he was

03:41captain, there is a little controversy. Throughout his career, there is controversy. But as a

03:45captain, I rated, you know, we have never won anything. We have never, we played three

03:49Asia Cup final, we played World Cup quarter-final, we played Champions League semi-final. But

03:55this is the reality, we never own anything. When you never own anything, then I don't

04:00rate you. But as a player, he's very, very high. But as a captain, I think he definitely

04:05have some lackeys. Okay. Now, if you look at replacement, potential

04:10replacements of Shakib Al Hasan, we have seen some sparks from Mehdi Hasan Miraj. He's done

04:32I think it could be Mehdi Hasan Miraj and he is our only option. I think after Shakib

04:36leaving, he will be the man because he didn't get enough opportunity, especially in terms

04:41of batting. He's batting in number eight. So it's not fair to compare with Shakib. Shakib

04:48batting in the middle of the order, Mehdi has to bat with the bowlers also. So there

04:53is always a pressure on him. He is personally eager to bat in the up of the order. But with

04:59the situation at Bushfield, Shakib, there was a big name in the middle. They are also

05:03in the middle order. So he didn't have the opportunity. But I hope, I hope, BCP will

05:08give Miraj the opportunity because the star will not burn. You have to make your star.

05:15So he needs the opportunity. Shakib Al Hasan didn't get his stardom within a day. After

05:21five or six years, maybe 10 years, he get his stardom and he is performing consistently.

05:26So I think BCP should give the opportunity to Mehdi Al Hasan Miraj to flourish his potential.

05:31So I believe Mehdi Al Hasan has everything to be the successor of Shakib.

05:36If you look at the overall structure of this Bangladesh team, Shakib has been the fulcrum

05:43of it. But in the current lot, he just mentioned about Mehdi Al Hasan Miraj, there's a Litton

05:52Das, there's a Mushpik, who's going to be there for some time, as long as we don't

05:58find a successor. But how is Shantu rallying the group around? We've seen some sparks of

06:05brilliance from the Bangladeshi team in Chennai Test match. The first spell from Hasan was

06:11superb. Naidrana is looking to be a very bright prospect. Just tell us about that.

06:20I don't think so. Because Shakib Al Hasan is not a player who comes every day, not every

06:23year, not 10 years. Last two decades, we played Test cricket, last 24 years, but Shakib Al

06:28Hasan is the only one. Not only Bangladesh cricket, also the world cricket perspective.

06:32I don't think so we get a replacement of Shakib Al Hasan. If Mehdi Al Hasan Miraj get the opportunity,

06:38I don't think so he will be Shakib Al Hasan, because he's the only one. But if you tell

06:42me opportunity, definitely. There is some young guy also, you know, I mentioned a cricketer

06:47Arifullah, he's a player. And if Mehdi Al Hasan Miraj get the chance, he will be very good all

06:52around, but not the replacement of Shakib Al Hasan. I don't think so. There's definitely

06:56no replacement for Shakib Al Hasan. The contribution that he has had 17 years, he's

07:53the opportunity. And I think he will be playing last match in Nepal, because Nepal is his home

07:57soil. All the people are coming. He deserves it, man. He definitely deserves it. And if you just

08:03could just foresee the moment and the outpour of crowds coming into the Mirpur stadium,

08:13filling in to the capacity and Shaqib Al Hasan just announcing his retirement,

08:18playing his last game. Can you just imagine it? Or is it still very emotional to imagine that?

08:24Yes, I can imagine it. I can help you to imagine that. I can't compare Shaqib with

08:31Sachin Tendulkar. But if you remember his farewell, how his teammate has given him the

08:37victory lap and say goodbye to him. I think that will be a grand celebration for Shaqib

08:42Al Hasan also because he is our Sachin Tendulkar. He is our everything. So he's the biggest superstar.
