This is Team USA versus the international team on international soil up in Montreal.
00:10
Let's start with the format and the roster breakdowns.
00:14
Who does Team USA bring into this fight?
00:16
Who's the captain and who do you expect to excel?
00:19
All right, well, the US, they've got 10 of the top 20 players in the world on a team
00:25
of 12.
00:26
I mean, they are stacked.
00:27
The average world golf ranking of their team is 12.
00:31
You know, versus the international team, their average world golf ranking is 34.
00:36
Both teams are made up of guys that are around 30 years old.
00:40
Average team age is 31 for both sides.
00:42
So these guys know each other very well.
00:44
They play on the PGA Tour all the time.
00:46
There's no live guys here, right?
00:47
It's just a PGA Tour sanctioned event.
00:50
We're up in Royal Montreal.
00:51
This is the 15th edition of this.
00:54
And captain Mike Weir has his guys fired up to try to go after the huge, you know,
01:00
favorite side of the US team, who is captained by Jim Furyk.
01:03
Now, we all remember Jim was a losing Ryder Cup captain back in Paris 2018.
01:09
And that's probably one of the things that the international side is hanging their hat
01:12
on as far as coming up with an ups.
01:14
Maybe the US side over thinks this, but I tell you, they are stacked.
01:18
Scotty Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Colin Moore, Calvin Clark, Patrick Cantlie.
01:23
These guys are all here ready to, you know, to do battle in a couple of different formats.
01:29
And I guess we'll get into that too.
01:32
Let me ask you, Keith, about the international side, because with Mike Weir, he's got three
01:37
pretty darn good Canadians on his team with Pedrith Hughes and Connors.
01:42
What are you expecting from this side?
01:46
I think he's got to lean on those guys a lot and not just when they're playing.
01:49
And I think Corey, as the Canadian best player in the world rankings, you know, I think he's
01:54
got to go five matches.
01:55
But I think he has to also rely on these guys to get the crowds motivated.
01:59
You know, I think Canada, every time, you know, the PGA Tour, we come up here for the
02:03
Canadian Open one time a summer, Canada comes out and they represent.
02:07
And I think this thing is going to be a madhouse this weekend.
02:10
It's going to be a hockey match that's going to last four days.
02:13
It's going to be a lot of fun to watch.
02:15
But that's where the Canadians, I think, really, really can play an integral part of this team.
02:19
Even though Matt Hughes, you know, he's not going to play five matches, but when he's not playing,
02:24
it's getting the crowds going.
02:25
It's getting them behind these guys.
02:27
On the international side, they really need, you know, that 13th man, that one extra player to be
02:33
the crowd to kind of put some pressure on these guys.
02:36
And if the Americans don't get out to a quick start, the pressure is going to build as,
02:41
are you on the team that's going to be the first one to lose in a very long time,
02:45
at least this century?
02:46
I mean, this is the 15th one of these.
02:49
In 14 Presidents' Cup matches, the U.S. is 12-1-1.
02:53
They haven't lost since 1998 in Australia.
02:55
And they didn't take a very strong side to that match back in the day.
02:59
So I'll tell you what, Scotty, Xander, you know, Colin, all of these guys, Tony, Fino,
03:04
they don't want to be on the team that loses.
03:05
So the pressure will mount if the Canadians can mount a charge.
