Russia revises nuclear doctrine with new warning to the West

The revised nuclear doctrine seems to significantly lower the threshold for the possible use of Russia’s nuclear arsenal.

00:00President Vladimir Putin announced revisions were made to Russia's nuclear doctrine.

00:07The revised version declares that any attack by a non-nuclear nation with the support of

00:13a nuclear power will be seen as a joint attack on Russia.

00:17This modification expands the definition of who can be considered an aggressor towards

00:22the Russian Federation.

00:24We leave the right to use nuclear weapons in case of aggression against Russia and Belarus

00:31as a member of the Union State, with the Belarusian side, with the President of Belarus.

00:38All these issues are agreed upon.

00:40Including if the enemy, using ordinary weapons, creates a critical threat to our sovereignty.

00:48The revision aims to discourage stronger Western support for Ukraine.

00:53It follows Putin's warning earlier this month in which he said lifting the restrictions

00:58on the use of long-range weapons would mean NATO allies and Russia are at war.
