German police arrest four over alleged people smuggling

00:00At least four people have been arrested in southwestern Germany in a series of raids

00:06conducted on suspicion of human smuggling, according to the federal police.

00:13The raids were carried out in Mannheim and in the area surrounding Karlsruhe, with a

00:17total of 24 properties searched.

00:23A gang of seven smugglers, both men and women, are being investigated.

00:32They are alleged to have brought people from countries in the Middle East and the Caucasus

00:36to Germany and, at least in some cases, allowed them to work in the country without a residency

00:41permit.
