00:00My name's Danny.
00:01Nice to meet you.
00:02And how has the summer kept up with your expectations?
00:05Summer's good.
00:06I don't mind it because I work night shifts, so I sleep all day, so I don't miss it.
00:10What would you have liked to have done this summer if you actually had the good weather?
00:14More of this.
00:15I'm here for a couple of days, holiday.
00:17I'm enjoying myself and it's lovely.
00:19So, more days I guess.
00:20What's bringing you there?
00:21What's attracting you?
00:22My partner's birthday.
00:23She's taking away for a wee weekend.
00:25Nice.
00:26So, enjoying herself.
00:27What are you up to?
00:28Staying out in the Everglades Hotel.
00:31In a town and just going for a beer.
00:34Yourself please.
00:35Christopher McKnight from Derry here.
00:37And Christopher, could you tell me, has the summer locked up to your expectations?
00:40No, never does.
00:42And what would you want to do this summer if we had actually got the weather?
00:46What would I want to do?
00:47Yeah.
00:48Lay on the beach all day.
00:49What would you hope for next summer you're going for?
00:52Do you know where?
00:54At least one day more of summer.
00:56My name's Peter Lowry.
00:58I'm from a place called Dunnamanna.
01:00I'm working here on my lunch break with my colleague here.
01:03That's nice.
01:04And Peter, how has the summer held up to your expectations?
01:06How the summer has?
01:08Weather-wise, it's been poor until obviously this week's good.
01:11It's pretty good.
01:12Working through the whole summer.
01:14So, it didn't even feel like a summer to be honest
01:16because it just seemed like week went into week.
01:18It was work.
01:19But I mean, it was alright.
01:20Yeah.
01:21Pretty good.
01:22Do you feel like that maybe we weren't able to put some showers maybe other summers?
01:26It's been kind of heavy with the rain.
01:28It has.
01:29It has been a wet summer to be fair.
01:31But I mean, what can you do?
01:32Not much you can do about that.
01:33But I feel like the last few summers haven't been great.
01:36And what would you hope for next summer?
01:38Would you hope for sunshine all the way through
01:40or do you not mind the rain especially because you're working?
01:42No, I want good weather because I work on a farm as well.
01:46I have a farm at home.
01:47So, summer is the weather.
01:49You want the weather to be good.
01:50Yeah.
01:51Hopefully better sun.
01:52If you could think of weather, what would you like to do?
01:54Working on the farm.
01:55Creating more silage.
01:56Doing things like that, you know.
01:57And I mean, you can do more activities and stuff as well obviously with the weather.
02:01And I think it helps even your mood and everything.
02:03And yeah, more things to do.
02:05So, yeah, obviously you want better weather.
02:07Right.
02:08Well, there's no need for introductions
02:09but would you mind introducing yourself finally please?
02:12Mark Durkan.
02:13You see, you're just stopping me.
02:14It's an ordinary citizen, aren't you?
02:17It's an ordinary citizen.
02:18And Mark, we just ask people all day about if the summer is up to their expectations.
02:22Has the summer this year left up to your expectations?
02:26Well, I had a very busy summer.
02:28Young children at home.
02:30We were very busy running them and juggling them with no school.
02:34It's difficult to make child care arrangements.
02:36But fortunately, there were so many great activities going on across the city.
02:40The council had great summer camps over in Foyle Arena that they went to.
02:44The GAA club had a summer camp.
02:46We managed to occupy them for most of the summer.
02:49I managed to get quite a bit of work done as well.
02:52We didn't go away on holidays this summer.
02:55So the lack of sunshine over the summer holidays was a wee bit of a drag.
03:00It's more difficult to entertain young ones especially whenever they can't get out and play.
03:05And maybe it isn't as easy to take a run to the beach or whatever.
03:09But you make the most of what you get and that includes with the weather.
03:14It's over now and the sun is out when the children are back to school.
03:18As you can look around you, I think people are determined to make the most of this and make a way the sun shines.
03:25Definitely.
03:26If we had more vibrant summer during the actual summer time, what would you have got nothing with the kids or maybe even by yourself?
03:34Well, like I say, I don't think you can cry over spilt milk or falling rain.
03:41We managed to do everything I think that we wanted to do.
03:44It was, like I say, just a wee bit of a drag and not really fair in that field for many parents in that regard.
03:52The children maybe need to entertain more indoors whenever it's raining a lot more.
03:58But I'd like to maybe see the council are great at putting on events and that.
04:03But I think it would benefit the city as a whole maybe if we had seen more activity, more events in Everington and stuff.
04:10And that's something that we aspire to and will endeavour to work towards.
04:15Hi, my name's Isabella and I'm here for the day, just visiting.
04:21Are you not from there?
04:23No, I'm from the north east.
04:25And how do you find the area so far?
04:27It's lovely, it's really nice.
04:29It's my first time here so, yeah, I haven't been surprised.
04:34Not in a good way.
04:36What was your expectations for the summer to live up to them at all?
04:39To the city a bit?
04:41No, the summer in general.
04:42The summer, it was very poor.
04:45The weather was awful until now, until this week I'd say.
04:49But this week's been really nice.
04:51I mean, getting some sunshine, that's temper, it's not typically what you imagine the summer to be, is it?
04:57No, not at all, no.
04:59But it's fabulous this week now, the last couple of days, yeah.
05:04But unfortunately people who are at work and kids who are back at school, they're not really getting to enjoy it.
05:10And if the summer was more vibrant, what would you have done with the sun out?
05:16Probably just get outside more.
05:19That'd be the main thing, yeah.
05:21Do you feel like we were stuck maybe inside with too much this summer?
05:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:25Maybe they should have given me a bank holiday this week.
05:27Thanks very much.
