PH vows to become voice for peace

The Philippines has pledged to become the voice for peace as it stands with the world now working for the future.  At the Summit of the Future in New York, Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo on Monday, Sept. 23, welcomed the gathering of leaders in an aim to renew the world’s collective determination to defuse tensions and seek a peaceful resolution of disputes and conflicts. 00:00Mr. President, the pact sets a paradigm for inclusive multilateralism and fosters a new

00:06international and intergenerational solidarity on the role of women, youth, migrants, persons

00:13with disabilities, older persons, and indigenous peoples in shaping a more humane, equal, and

00:19just society.

00:21It also brings new vigor to our unfinished business of eliminating nuclear weapons and

00:26other weapons of mass destruction and propels our endeavors to establish norms to prevent

00:32an arms race in space, govern lethal autonomous weapons, and address risks of emerging technologies

00:39to international peace and security.

00:42Mr. President, it is important that this pact renews our collective determination to defuse

00:48tensions and seek the peaceful resolution of disputes and conflicts.

00:53In the essence of the 1982 Manila Declaration on the Peaceful Resolution of Disputes, in

00:58pledging to the pact, states abide by the obligation of rejecting force and the threat

01:04of use of force to settle disputes.

01:07As a founding member of the UN and the First Asian Republic, the Philippines shall always

01:12be a voice for peace, equity and justice, human rights and human dignity, the rule of

01:19law, and constructive multilateralism.
