Welcome to The Advantage. Today we're talking about LeBron James and Tyrese Halliburton
00:06
and exactly how they got buckets in the end season tournament.
00:10
Alright, this is very much an IQ video and we're diving deep into how those buckets came about.
00:15
Because this show is called The Advantage, we don't just play the game, we think the game.
00:21
It's all about learning players' advantages, how to stop it, and how to utilize it.
00:27
So let's go ahead and kick it off with Tyrese Halliburton. What are his advantages?
00:31
Well, he can shoot it. He's a sniper for real. Shot kind of wonky, but he can shoot it.
00:37
Alright. Number two, he can pass it. Point guard for real.
00:42
Number three, he got a nice little handle on him. Point guard for real.
00:47
Number four, he's patient. He's patient.
00:54
Which, as young as he is, for a lot of guys in the league, just a lot of players period, patience is a virtue.
01:02
Five, IQ. Dude is actually really smart if you pay attention.
01:08
The biggest aspect that is on the scouting report for other teams is that he can shoot it.
01:13
So throughout the whole game, they're sitting there playing a drop coverage.
01:17
So drop coverage is basically this, where you see Brooke Lopez playing in that drop position.
01:24
He's not hugging up on anybody. He's playing low.
01:29
So if they come off of that screen, he's there to pick up Halliburton off the screen,
01:34
but also be able to get back to his man in the paint.
01:38
And the other defender is trying to come over the screen and stay with Halliburton on his hip.
01:45
So this is what we call a lock and trail.
01:48
So we lock onto that hip and then we trail over the screen. Lock and trail.
01:54
The whole purpose of drop coverage is to make sure that they can't shoot it off the screen.
02:00
They can't pull to Stephen Curry and pull up, even though Stephen Curry would still pull up.
02:05
So this is the game plan for the Bucs. Clearly.
02:08
Because they did it the whole entire game. They didn't switch it up.
02:11
I want you guys to pay attention to two things.
02:15
First thing is my corner shooters.
02:18
Usually when you're coming off of a screen, once your feet hit the paint, you hit a corner shooter.
02:26
And those shooters have to be respectable.
02:29
So obviously those shooters in the corners are respectable because the Bucs are playing tight on them.
02:34
So you can't drive and kick.
02:36
And the second thing I want you guys to pay attention to is the roller.
02:39
Because now it all comes down to the two man game.
02:42
What is the person with the ball going to do and what is my roller going to do?
02:47
So there's two things that always happen for the roller.
02:49
The roller either slip the screen right away to force them to make a decision.
02:56
So now Brooke Lopez has to make a decision.
02:59
Am I going to guard the ball or am I going to guard my mans?
03:03
That rotation has to be crisp.
03:06
You can't just stand there and hesitate.
03:09
Because he's slipping that screen so fast and heading straight to the rim, I have to hurry up and get back.
03:14
You see what's happening.
03:16
And the second thing that will happen, Tyrese will come off the screen.
03:21
Keep the defender on his hip.
03:24
Now the roller would space out.
03:30
And here's what happens when you don't stick to the plan, Damian Lillard.
03:36
Damian Lillard didn't go over the screen.
03:39
He didn't do a lock and trail.
03:40
He went under the screen not once, but twice.
03:43
And guess what Halliburton gets to do?
03:46
He got to utilize his advantage.
03:48
Shooting it.
03:50
So now you got to live with it, right?
03:52
The other thing I also want to point out is that when the Bucs created this game plan,
03:58
the drop coverage is like, yo, we are going to live with them not shooting threes.
04:04
We are going to live with them trying to score points in the paint.
04:08
We good with that.
04:10
That's the game plan.
04:11
But the Pacers did it so effectively that it's just like, yo, you take what you can get.
04:19
Because once again, we're not just shooters.
04:22
We're ball players.
04:23
We can do more than just shoot the ball.
04:24
We got the layup package on lock.
04:26
We got the passing on lock.
04:27
So that's the advantage to having multiple advantages.
04:31
And by the way, I've gotten a B in workouts with Tyrese Halliburton.
04:34
He's really like that.
04:36
Like his shot is funky, but he's really like that.
04:39
Now for my man with the plan, LeBron James.
04:43
Okay, guys, I was at this game, all right?
04:45
And when I say LeBron was really like that, like, come on.
04:50
So what is LeBron's advantage?
04:52
Well, first of all, he's big, right?
04:55
Really, when he was coming through the paint, it's really like a freight train.
04:58
Y'all see it on TV, but if you've never gotten to see him in person, he's really like, he's fast.
05:06
And he's big.
05:07
Move out the way on some ludicrous move.
05:11
Get out the way.
05:13
And of course, the game plan most of the time will always be pack in the paint.
05:17
Because what would you rather have?
05:20
Would you rather have LeBron shooting threes?
05:24
Or would you rather have LeBron in the paint?
05:29
Once again, he's a freight train.
05:31
And no offense, I don't care how good LeBron shot is getting, I want LeBron shooting threes.
05:36
Because we playing percentages here.
05:38
We not just playing, you know, the percentages say you get this many points in the paint.
05:44
And you get this many points from the three.
05:47
And the team as a whole doesn't shoot great from three anyway, right?
05:52
And you've got AD down there.
05:53
So it's like we're going to pack in the paint as much as possible.
05:56
And the game plan also was they're not trying to guard LeBron too far from the three-point line.
06:03
So kind of like the game plan, how it usually is for Jokic, give him a late contest.
06:09
All right.
06:10
So it's kind of like a hesitation when you see people just standing there like a defender standing there.
06:14
And they're not because it's like LeBron can decide to get the ball.
06:19
You know how you look at the ball for a second.
06:21
And then you just drive.
06:22
Or he can look at the ball and decide he want to shoot it.
06:26
Because when he shoot it, he'll shoot like a little leaner, a little fadeaway.
06:29
Right?
06:30
So it's harder to block anyway.
06:32
So we're not going to guard you too far out from the three-point line.
06:35
Right?
06:36
And we're going to give you a late contest every time.
06:38
The problem is that night LeBron took advantage of it.
06:41
He hit three threes in a row.
06:43
My man was balling.
06:45
And there were two instances of how he was scoring his threes.
06:48
So he would score it off a fast break where he just come down, shoot it in your face.
06:52
Because it's a late contest anyway.
06:54
Or he would score it off the rotation.
06:56
All right.
06:57
So once the defense has rotated, we swing, swing, pick and roll, swing.
07:01
Right?
07:02
The defense has rotated two or three times.
07:04
Now I get a kind of late contest on top of the hesitation of the contest that you're doing anyway.
07:11
I'm going to shoot it in your face.
07:14
And of course, last but not least, the pick and roll worked very well for LeBron.
07:19
You know, it was times where he'll come off that screen.
07:22
And it's like, yo, the defender is on my hip.
07:26
First of all, the person guarding me is too small.
07:30
So I'm not going to play bully ball with Valanchunas or go up with Valanchunas.
07:35
I'm going to stick right here with this little small dude right here.
07:38
And it's going to be me and you.
07:40
So you know he gets into his body and tries to get a nice little one-two for the one time.
07:45
And then, of course, pick and roll with AD.
07:48
You got Zion and Valanchunas.
07:50
If they get the switch with Zion on AD, meet me at the rim.
07:54
Throw it over Zion to where he can't jump.
07:56
He uses athleticism.
07:58
And meet me at the rim for AD.
08:00
Either way, this in-season tournament has been fun to watch.
08:03
And I'm super happy to break it down for you guys, first of all.
08:07
But either way, I'm trying to get tickets to the last game right now.
08:11
Just to see LeBron.
08:13
Maybe if he gets his first trophy in the first in-season tournament.
08:20
Or, shoot, I got to see Tyrese do his thing.
08:25
Hopefully he gets his first trophy for the in-season tournament.
08:29
Either way, it'll be very entertaining.
08:31
So I appreciate you guys watching The Advantage.
08:34
Peace out.
