Blues boss John Mousinho talks to The News after his side's last-gasp defeat at Turf Moor.
Transcript
00:00In some ways it is, but I thought that if you look at the games over the last couple of weeks where we lost to West Brom and lost to Sunderland,
00:08you go, yeah, it's really those sides that were just better than us on the day. I didn't think Burnley were better than us.
00:13They were a good side. Everything I said previously before the game I thought was accurate. I thought we thoroughly deserved to at least get a point out of today.
00:23It's brutal because you get punished in those moments, but we just need to be a lot better because we competed for 96 and 99 minutes.
00:30What did you make of the game plan and the way your team set up? Did it look for all the world for large periods like we were?
00:36I thought we frustrated the fans here at Turf Moor. Burnley couldn't really break us down.
00:41We look at the first half and I can't really remember them threatening the goal too much.
00:44Similar to be honest in the second half, a few set pieces, a couple of good blocks, but I didn't think it was this sustained wave of pressure after pressure.
00:51I just didn't see that, so I was really pleased with that.
00:54But we let ourselves down in two moments where one, we've not got up to the ball and the other one, I think we've not cleared the danger and gone for a backheel.
01:03As I said to the boys there, it's unacceptable to do that. We can't come in here after that performance and not at least have a point.
01:09You looked quite frustrated at the end and you said something to the referee. What was it?
01:15There's two things. The state of the game, every week we seem to just get hurried up from a very early stage and it doesn't happen to other sides.
01:25If you look at Burnley's goal kicks, Burnley's throw-ins, they seem to get a lot of time on the ball.
01:30And then the two massive incidents I think. First of all, Fleming on Jordan Williams. It's a disgraceful challenge.
01:35He puts him into the stand and somehow Jordan gets booked off the back of it. It's a really awful challenge.
01:41And I'm not happy with the level of officiating. The one that I got booked for at the back end, I'm watching in front of me.
01:46I'm watching Harvey Blair get dragged down. The free kick goes the other way. I can't fathom why it's gone the other way.
01:51It absolutely blows my mind. We need more than that. We need miles and miles more than that.
01:54Yes, we need to deal with the second phase of the set-piece but we can't keep going on like that. It's just unacceptable.
02:00Let's try and look at a few positives from your performance because for large periods it was a really good display.
02:04Who stood out for you in that team?
02:05I thought the two centre-backs were outstanding. I thought Zac was brilliant as well.
02:10Conor, I thought, was back to the way that he plays best.
02:13I looked across the side and I was really pleased with everything. I was really, really pleased with everything.
02:17Once the dust settles, I will be pleased with the performance but we still need to be much more clinical
02:23and that's not just at the top end of the pitch, it's at the back end of the pitch as well.
02:27A word on Regan. You said he was good. Ten months out, he's come in for a shot.
02:31We'll see you again. He's a big presence at the back and it looked like you took a duck to water.
02:35Yes, we know what a good player Regan is.
02:37Regan is 15 games at the front end of last season. He was excellent.
02:41He's been brilliant coming back in training and I thought he was great today.
02:45He's one of the best centre-forwards in the league.
02:46A word on Callum Langley. He played well before his start to the season. How pleased are you with your start to the season?
02:50I'm really pleased. I'm not saying it to try and cover anything up.
02:55I thought that we played well in practice against Sunderland and we weren't good enough.
03:00I thought we had a really good first half against West Brom. They just had too much.
03:03I thought we were really good today for 96 of the 98 minutes. I keep saying it.
03:07We haven't come away with anything.
03:10Honestly, I'm not saying it because I think the kidney won.
03:17Everybody's seen that here today but we do need to be better.
03:20We do need to start getting results. I think we should have won that game to be honest.
03:23Was Callum okay? I know he went off. Was that just a precaution?
03:26I think he just felt his groin swelled a bit. It shouldn't be too bad.
03:29You gave a debut to Freddie Potts on the way from West Ham. What did you make of his display?
03:34Very assured. I took Freddie off because of the worry about legs.
03:38The fact that it was his first game for a long time, I think since back into last season.
03:42I thought Freddie was instrumental in the first goal, setting it up.
03:45Very calm in possession. Did his work out of possession. I'm really happy.
03:48Just by making off, is that the result you'd want? I know you signed a contract extension yesterday.
03:53How pleased are you to have that over the line?
03:55I'm really happy to hopefully extend my stay for a lot longer.
04:00Four more years, which is really pleasing.
04:03I think we can build something very special at the football club.
04:06I'm delighted and very thankful to the board.
