00:30Hello and welcome to highlights of match number one in the series between
00:33Afghanistan and Pakistan played in Sri Lanka. First match number one in Hambam
00:38Tota. First news of the day was that it was Pakistan. Barbara Azam was captain of
00:42Pakistan who won the toss and opted to bat first.
01:00Tucks the ball away on the onside. Runs here. Should be able to get two
01:15comfortable runs there. Off the mark straight away. Gets the edge and taken.
01:23Nabi takes the catch. First wicket for Afghanistan to celebrate in the first
01:29over. It's three for one. Fakhar the batsman out. Misery expands for him once
01:35again. At the moment Fakhar Zaman is not a confident batsman. Not assured of his
01:40technique. There was a swing for the left armor and he was enticed into that
01:51stroke. Fakhar Zaman playing the ball away from his body. Only managed to edge
01:58the ball to the fieldsman at second slip. He departs after scoring two. It's
02:04three for one Pakistan. Cues appeal and it's given him out. Barbara Azam the
02:13Pakistan captain. Goals. Is he going to take the review? Original decision is out.
02:22Pitching outside off. Impact in line. Wickets hitting. Durrani stay with your
02:30out decision. I'll let you know whenever you're on screen. You're on screen. Signal
02:37out. Was a good decision. Very good decision made by the own field umpire.
02:42And what a start for Afghan in this ODI. They've been able to remove the
02:49danger man in Barbara Azam. Smashed into the gap. First boundary for Pakistan. It
03:01was too short. Had plenty of time to rock back and pick the spot where that ball
03:08is going. There was no need to run for that. He knew.
03:16Laid in the air but into the gap. And this will go away to the boundary for
03:21four. Now that's his strength. When you talk about Mohammed Rizwan. As a
03:28batsman you can afford to play the ball in the air. But it has to be in the gap.
03:32And that's what Rizwan did. First boundary for him. Given into the gap.
03:41Another boundary for Mohammed Rizwan. Pakistan fighting back. He gets to the
03:50pitch of the ball and he knew where the ball should go. Two boundaries for
03:56Mohammed Rizwan in this over. Still a bit there as well. That was angled in and
04:03swung just a little bit. But it's beautifully dealt with. Laid late. Whipped
04:09away through mid-wicket. Rolls away to the fence. From being almost deceived and
04:16leg before a ball. Have a look at the last response. The ultimate response of
04:22Flick. He was looking towards the offside and yet somehow managed to hit a
04:24four through mid-wicket. Brilliant piece of timing in the end. And not
04:32managing Mujib well. This is an extraordinary drive really. Rizwan is in
04:36top gear here. Well you've seen him now hit three through the offside. That was
04:43very full. You've seen him hit on the up as well. This was very full. That width is
04:47enticing. Everything is right about this shot. Plays it under his eyes. The head
04:52is nice and still. Point of contact. Wicket to wicket. He's so disciplined
04:57Mujib. Oh that's close. That is close and given by the umpire. It looked out. It hit
05:03the back leg. Rizwan is going to confer with his partner but I think he's done.
05:15Yes standing by for the ball tracking.
05:21You're pitching in line. Impact in line. Wickets umpire's call. Durrani stay with
05:29your original decision. So the decision proves to be a good one by a bit of a
05:38hair's breadth. Just clipping the bail. I must admit at the time I thought bounce
05:43wouldn't necessarily be an issue but the bounce nearly took it over the top of
05:47the stumps. So Mohammad Rizwan who's looked in sparklingly good touch has to
05:53go for 21 with those four bounders. It's 40 now for three. Pakistan has already lost
05:59three wickets. Their middle order needs to be tested here. So it'll be a hell of a
06:03task for Pakistan batters. To go through Rashid Khan is straight away. He gets the
06:09breakthrough. Pakistan loses the fourth and this is not picked at all by Agha
06:18Salman. Just turns back in. He's thinking about not offering a shot and he's given
06:27out LBW. Agha Salman who has dropped off just one could not make a significant
06:36contribution. Departs after making only seven. Pakistan in all sorts of trouble
06:4062 for four. This has gone fine and will run away for four. Pakistan gets the
06:54welcome boundary. He reads the googly. He plays it fine and once it's going off
07:01the fielder. This is nicely placed. It'll be four. That was a little short and wide
07:13if they are doing the right thing. Placing it away from the fielder. Now if
07:20it goes for another welcome boundary for Pakistan.
07:26Rit given and smashed away. Picks up an easy boundary.
07:37Almost like a freebie to Iftikhar Ahmed. Shot way outside the off stump. All he had to do is
07:41free those arms and there was no intention to keep the ball on the ground.
07:51This is the easy catch at short mid wicket. Hasmutullah Shahidi spoke about how hard these two
07:58batsmen have played but in the end it's a soft dismissal. Mohamed Nabi slowing
08:03things down and Hasmutullah Shahidi cannot believe his luck at short mid wicket.
08:07Iftikhar was betting well. Wicket falling against the run of play.
08:12Through the air. Stopping onto the batsman and chipping it straight to the
08:16fieldsman. A simple catch for Afghanistan skipper Hasmutullah Shahidi.
08:20He cannot believe it. Partnership broken at the key moment in play. Nabi
08:26celebrates. Iftikhar Ahmed batsmen out for 30. Pakistan five down for 112.
08:37Reaching for the ball and it's going to go away to the boundary for four. Using
08:42the pace. Widest delivery. Taken full care of. Boundary to finish the over. 29
08:47gone. Pakistan 118 for five. This will only benefit the younger generation. This is
08:54good batting. Very good batting by Imamul Haq and brings up his 50 of 78 deliveries.
08:59Been hard work fighting knock and in the end he has made it to his 17th half
09:07century. Excellent execution of strokes against spin. Nudging the ball. Pushing
09:14the ball into the gap. And his slowest ever half century in one day cricket. It's
09:22going fine. Long chase. Can't stop it. Extra runs. That's something that they
09:28got to be wary of Afghanistan. Pressure on the opposition. Cannot afford to lose
09:31pressure. Chips down the ground. Straight down the ground and chip well. These
09:40boundaries have been hard earned throughout these 31 overs and one ball.
09:45Someone has to do something about this. And Saleh Khan might be that man but he's
09:50played this well. Kept his head down. Made sure it was straight. Made sure it's away
09:55from those two fielders. That's in the air and finally one is taken. Rashid Khan
10:08has done the right thing. Hopefully hasn't hurt himself in the process but
10:13judged it nicely. Kept his hand side. There is what I call not a good sign
10:20here. Help has been called for but Imam has gone. So despite the break. Despite
10:26the two previous drops. The third one has been taken. But Rashid Khan is sadly
10:31down. There's the miscue. Didn't try and really hit it. Didn't get that much on
10:38it. Now Rashid goes down there. Having safely taken the catch. It's a good catch
10:47and now we have to wait and see what the what he's done to himself. But for
10:52Imam Ul Haq he's kept the ship steady for 36 overs. He's faced 94 balls. 61. In a
11:02sense you've got to say if you're gonna battle through like that you need to
11:04keep going. But he's on his way back and Pakistan a 152 for six. Guided away and
11:13fine. So that will race down there for four to third. No slip in place at this
11:19stage of the game. Deftly played. Just made sure it went fine enough. A bit of
11:25pace. Help Shahdaab Khan. Open the face and find a boundary.
11:34All the balls. As simple as that. Just as simple as that. Bajeeb comes back on. Farsid
11:47in straight. York a length. Little attempted nudge. Misses the bat. And
11:52Pakistan lose their seventh. Oh well the captain has rotated his ballers. Saw the
12:02lower batsman coming in. Introduced his premier baller in Mujib and how well he
12:09responded to the call. He has removed Osama Amir. And that was wicket number
12:15eight for Afghanistan. So Osama Amir goes to put two. It's 160 for seven. Oh yes
12:27quicker through the air. He demolishes the stumps. Rashid Khan is absolutely
12:32loving it. And Pakistan slide further. It was hard taking that catch of Imam
12:40Ul Haq. Comes back to the over and bowls it quicker. And Shahenshah Fridi. I don't
12:46think he picked the leg spinner. It was late. Off the pitch. It came quick. And
12:53Shahenshah Fridi usually likes to use a long handle. Try to break the innings. Go
12:59through but in the end perishes for two rounds of eight deliveries. Pakistan in
13:02trouble. 163 for eight. Oh that's gone for four. That's Naseem Shah for you then
13:11for ways. He'll fight it out. That is a good partner to have actually when the
13:18situation is tough. He somehow I don't know why but he likes playing against
13:24Afghanistan. Rahman coming on to bowl to finish the over. That's gone fine and
13:32four. Still fighting it out. Naseem Shah.
13:39That's beautifully done by Naseem Shah. Using the pace of Abdul Rahman.
13:43Slightly short. Cross seam up. The bounce out of the off stump and he just helps it
13:49through offside. Faruqi is doing well here. He's giving so far, dare I say it, no width at all.
14:01Now that's interesting. That is interesting. So that looked to be in a
14:09very comfortable position. The throw comes in maybe slightly surprisingly.
14:14The throw comes in but we need to have a look at this.
14:20Just keep rolling. Yep freeze it there as the blitz wicket is broken. I'm satisfied.
14:28Well well well just from nowhere. Absolutely nowhere. Shut up so vital to
14:35these last few overs. Just a moment of casualness. Majib with the throw. Spotted
14:42the opportunity. The throw is absolutely spot-on.
14:46Shadab has played really well for those 39 from 50 but Pakistan really needed
14:53and wanted him to stay these last few overs. He's got to go. It's now nine down
14:58for 198. Here we go again with Rahmat.
15:06Oh he's given it. Now well that's worth a review. I have to say instinctively that
15:12is worth a review for all sorts of reasons and the primary one is it might
15:15not be hitting the stumps but we will review it and see what the verdict is.
15:29Ball passes close to the bat. Can I have the authorities to check if there's any
15:34bat involved? Keep rolling. Flatline as the ball passes the bat. Satisfied no
15:44bat involved. Can I have ball tracking whenever it is ready?
15:51Pitching in line. Impact umpire's call. Impact in line. Wickets umpire's call.
16:00Satisfied. I'm going back to the on-field umpire. Durrani stay with your decision.
16:06Let you know. You're on screen now. Spot on. Finger goes up for the second
16:12time to signal the end of Pakistan's innings. 201 all out it is and it is the
16:19first time that Afghanistan have bowled out Pakistan in a one-day international
16:25inning. So that is a Philip for Afghanistan. They've had a good day in
16:29the field overall. One or two mistakes here and there. Yep. But to bowl Pakistan
16:33out is a good achievement. So Pakistan failed to get through their 50 overs.
16:37Bowled out for 201. The innings was held together first by Imam Ul Haq who's 61
16:42was certainly hard-earned. He really fought hard to get those runs on the
16:46board. Useful contributions down the order from Iftikhar and Sadat Khan with
16:5030 and 39 and a partnership towards the end as well taking them past 200. For
16:56Afghan's bowlers well it was the spinners who held sway. Very good figures
17:01from Majid 3 for 33 and Nabi 2 for 34 from his 10. Rashid Khan as ever in the
17:06action 2 for 42 from his 10. And the task now would be for Afghanistan to try and
17:11chase down 202.
17:16One thing for the Pakistan bowlers they don't have to bowl out or desperation.
17:24Well first ball of the reply is full and swinging in. All that's up. That's going
17:33to be the simplest of chances. The short ball cramped him for room. Ibrahim
17:39completely miscuing. And so it wasn't a wicked in the first over but it's a
17:44wicked in Shaheen Sharafreed's second over. The third over of the innings and
17:48that's an interesting start for Pakistan to fight back so quickly. Needed early
17:53wickets and it's the man Shaheen Sharafreedi caught the batsman unaware.
17:58He kept on pushing the ball up to the batsman and this time around surprised
18:03the batter with a short pitch delivery and it has worked.
18:10Oh what an effort that is. Shut up at square leg. The short ball looked just
18:19for a moment to have cleared him. This is the advantage Pakistan has. Baseballer
18:25on a sluggish pitch. They are rushing the batsman. That ball zipped through and
18:30what a take. What a take from Shadab. The Pakistani team ecstatic. They needed a
18:37start like this with the ball. So very very athletic and yes another
18:45disappointment for Afghanistan at the top of the order as the captain leaves
18:50the field. Disconsolate with none to his name and the scoreline ominous at four
18:56for three. He's found a way through. Runs for Afghanistan. Runs for Ikram and for
19:05them as well. What a shot. Facing first delivery. Yes it was over pitched but he
19:16was ready for it. He was confident enough to hit the ball into the gap. Great start.
19:23Is there a nick? They started to celebrate. The finger is up. Ikram Ali
19:28Khail is dismissed. Wicket of the very first delivery for Harish Rao. Afghanistan
19:33now four down. Terrific catch by the keeper. It was shaping up nicely but it's
19:38just that Harish Rao and the other Pakistani pacers are so good at moving
19:45the ball and keeping things difficult. That one reared from that good length
19:48area. Cut him in half and a very good kick take by the keeper. Just the
19:56perfect start for Harish Rao. A wicket and right and left hand combinations
20:02been removed. 18 for four. Ikram gone for four. Strong appeal and given by the
20:14umpire. Will he go for another DRS? Everyone looks super confident that
20:20there's an outside edge. Gurbaz what is he thinking? He's asking his partner
20:26whether to go for DRS or not. Beautifully bowled by the pacer and he's
20:34a goner. No shame in getting out to a ball like this. It was a superb delivery.
20:41Was forced to play at that line and just a hint of out swinger and he was taken
20:46by the keeper. He stayed there but this one was a peach of a delivery. You
20:52could do nothing about it. He survived a chance when he was on 14. He nicked it
20:58to the keeper and that's a wise call because you know as a batter if you have
21:03it or not and he does the right thing. Harish Rao finally gets the wicket and
21:07he'll feel very happy and pumped up because you really feel it when you miss
21:11the wicket and you just say wish we had gotten the DRS with you. But finally
21:16Rahmanullah Gurbaz after a very careful and kind of stabilizing innings
21:21departs for 18. Afghanistan in all sorts of trouble 35 for 5. Into the gap in
21:30four runs that's nicely timed. Slicing it past that man at cover and point.
21:38Spoils his last ball but it's still fabulous figures for Harish Rao. 2 for 12
21:44It's 39 for 5. Another very soft dismissal. Harish Rao's been on fire. He gets the
21:55wicket off Muhammad Nabi and Afghanistan are in all sorts of trouble.
22:03Well the pitch is a slow one. We've said that the ball is stuck in the wicket
22:07quite often throughout the day and the evening and this one just holds a little
22:12bit. Harish Rao is an out-and-out quick bowler but just stops ever so slightly
22:19which leads to Muhammad Nabi hitting that in the air. Simple catch really.
22:26Sometimes you bowl cracking deliveries other times it's just an ordinary
22:30delivery like that which leads to a wicket. He deserves the success that he's
22:36got this evening Harish Rao. Muhammad Nabi goes for 7. Afghanistan 48 for 6.
22:43All over. Didn't take long for Harish Rao to knock over the off stump of Rashid Khan.
22:51That absolutely too good for Rashid Khan. That space that talks and you do not
23:00have the answer for that. Harish Rao has been on fire. He's got 4 for and look at
23:07this no clue no answer from Rashid Khan. It just passes through and dislodges the
23:13bale. What a sight for the fast bowler and he celebrates this. Jubilant Pakistan
23:20side. They can sense the victory from here.
23:26And again there was just a puff of dust wasn't there. When the ball hit the
23:31ground there was just a puff of dust but Rashid Khan goes without scoring.
23:36Afghanistan well they're nearly done for here 48 for 7. Well there we go I told
23:44you I told you he is. Well he appreciates the compliment and hits a beautiful shot
23:51With this boundary it's the end of the over. Afghanistan are 54 for 7.
23:59He has an opportunity. Here's an opportunity. This should be the eighth wicket and is.
24:05Shahrab in on the action early on. And that's what the smart ballers do. They read
24:13the mind of the batter. They know what the batters are thinking. They give him
24:16the ball. They throw the bait. The finer the bait the shorter the wait. And there
24:23you go he didn't have the clue. He wants to heave this towards the left side but
24:27gets the top edge in the process. Fakhar Zaman wanted to call for it and he does
24:33and he holds to it comfortably. He's a good fielder. Shahrab Khan delighted after
24:40getting the wicket in his very first over. Afghanistan are nowhere. It's 55 for 8.
24:46Right here's Haris Ralph looking for five. Oh what a stroke that is for four
24:53from Mujib. Are you kidding me some respect this man has got four wickets
24:58and Mujib Zadrana is telling you he's going to swing his bat and he rightly
25:02does and he gets the boundary to open his account with. Look at that full ball
25:08and he smashes this straight down to the boundary for four.
25:17I don't think he's going to play any other way Mujib. I think he's going to
25:21look to finish with a flourish here.
25:25Chance this should end it and that is that. Five wickets for Haris Ralph and
25:33Pakistan have won by 143 runs. That is an exceptional performance from a very
25:40talented fast bowling attack. Well he gets his fifer for the first time and
25:45this is his best figure also against Afghanistan 5-4-18 and what a show this
25:50has been. He was all in fire, genuine pace and he's getting the hugs from his
25:56teammates and everybody cheering for him. It's such a wonderful moment for the
26:00bowlers to get the fifer means everything and once again he believes in
26:05his strength, gives the linked ball Mujib, swings at it. Nowhere. All it does is
26:09gives a simple catch to Naseem Shah who completes the catch and completes the
26:15fifer for Haris Ralph who prostrates to Almighty and thanks Allah for this
26:23milestone.
26:26Well I tell you what at the start of that chase Afghanistan would have felt
26:31they had a really good chance of chasing down 202. The facts though very very
26:36different indeed. The Pakistan pace attack struck back early 59 all out with
26:42one man retired hurt was not exactly what Afghanistan were hoping for. Top
26:47score at the top from Gorbaz 18 he had to work very hard for those. Three ducks
26:51in a row from numbers 2, 3 and 4. Big blows there at the top of the order for
26:55Afghanistan. So full credit has to go to Pakistan's pace attack. Shaheen Shah
27:03Afridi 2 for 9 from his 4. Naseem Shah 1 for 12 from his 5. Man of the
27:08match, player of the match Haris Ralph 5 for 18 from 6.2 overs and the spinners
27:14just chipped in but were hardly needed. So that Pakistan pace attack doing all
27:18the damage needed to win the game very very comfortably by 142 runs. Well I
27:24hope you've enjoyed the highlights of this first match of three in the series
27:26between Afghanistan and Pakistan and hope you can join us next time. Thanks
27:30for being with us.
