00:14Joshua, the plantations of vegetables and rice are being affected

00:18following the eruption of volcano Canlaon and the typhoon.

00:24According to the City Agriculture Office Joshua,

00:27the initial affected plantations will reach 8,000.

00:33It is feared that the price of vegetables here will rise in the coming months.

00:40100% for sure the affected standing crop is totally lost for the vegetables.

00:48It is feared that the price of vegetables in Canlaon City

00:52will increase in the coming weeks and months.

00:56This is after 8 hectares of vegetables were affected in the city

01:00following the eruption of volcano Canlaon.

01:03According to the City Agriculture Office,

01:05five barangays located at the foot of the volcano are the most affected.

01:10These include Malaiba, Pula, Masulog, Lumapaw and Linuthangan.

01:17It is said that more than 123 hectares of vegetables were destroyed due to the ash fall.

01:25A total of 240 vegetable plantations were affected.

01:30Aside from the vegetables planted,

01:32the ashes left by the typhoon in the rice plantations are also widespread.

01:37According to the City Agriculturist Andrea Canoy,

01:41based on their initial assessment,

01:43more than 1,600 hectares of rice were destroyed by the typhoons.

01:50This is equivalent to more than 1,500 farmers affected.

01:55Most of these are in the vegetative, reproductive and maturity stage.

02:01The damage caused by the typhoon is worth more than 2 million pesos.

02:06Canoy is confident that the affected farmers will receive help

02:11from the eruption of the volcano and other calamities.

02:15Almost all farmers have insurance

02:20so they can get financial assistance from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation or PCIC.

02:28Under PCIC, it is a cash or check-in form for the indemnity due to the loss of the maize.

02:41How much is that amount per farmer?

02:44It depends upon the assistance.

02:46Aside from receiving financial assistance from PCIC,

02:50the LGU is also preparing financial assistance,

02:54including new rice and rice paddies.

02:59Technically, we will be assisting you, supervising you for us to recover.

03:05When it comes to any assistance the LGU can give or our office can activate.

03:11The LGU continues to distribute food assistance to 11,000 families from 12 barangays of the city.

03:19Meanwhile, the number of evacuees has been added despite the rain.

03:24As of now, almost 300 families have evacuated,

03:28equivalent to almost 1,000 individuals.

03:35Joshua, since yesterday, the weather here in Canloon City got better.

03:39That is why the suspension of classes in the whole city has been lifted,

03:44aside from Joshua, to the schools that are still using evacuation centers until now.
