00:00this much detail on such a small scale that's highly illogical here's a look at
00:05new Haya toys Star Trek the 2009 exquisite miniseries Spock
00:30this brand-new Spock figure stands 105 millimeters tall and faithfully
00:37reproduces his appearance from Star Trek 2009 he is dressed in his iconic blue
00:41uniform representing medical and science personnel the Starfleet emblem on his
00:45clothes with the iconic Vulcan hand gesture they are certainly not absent
00:49communicator phaser pistol and other accessories are all finely detailed
00:53capturing the essence of this character even at the 118 scale it's really hard
00:58to hide your feelings when you get a figure looking this good just though
01:01before we get a closer look the Haya Star Trek 2009 exquisite miniseries of
01:04Spock I'd like to thank the folks over at Haya they were nice enough to of
01:08course provide the sample we could have a look at this guy slated to drop the
01:11third quarter of 2024 and if you've already seen my review of the exquisite
01:14miniseries of James T Kirk thank you for that by the way like with Kirk though
01:18this guy is also going to be getting the exquisite super series treatment also
01:22around November for a 104 dollars and 99 cents though for this Spock he's
01:27actually gonna be standing at about four inches in heights or the second in
01:31command is looking at about nine and a half centimeters tall I'm not gonna move
01:35him out of his captain's role but I'm at least gonna move the figure over so at
01:38least I could bring in the James T Kirk that we've already had a look at from a
01:42size standpoint it looks like they are really using a lot of the same molds
01:45probably the legs are identical but if you're putting the two back to back it
01:49does look though that Captain Kirk is just a tad bit taller similar legs
01:53similar accessories in fact identical accessories to the earlier looked
01:57at Kirk Spock comes in clear with a view screen that also doubles up as well
02:00as a display stand it still though has a problem using clear pegs for their posts
02:04I would imagine though that well if you are familiar with clear plastic clear
02:08plastic is not really the kind of thing you want to use for a peg to attach on
02:11to a figures feet but either way though there the peg is there you can attach it
02:15on to Spock's you can also speaking of attaching if you happen to have Kirk's
02:19display stand you can attach the two together if you're familiar with these
02:22and you already know where I'm going with this there's these slots on the
02:25bottom you can see them along the top you can see them down the sides you get
02:28two on either side and you also get these eye brackets this is now the
02:32second time I've done these I've noticed with both times there's one of
02:36the tightest eye brackets I've ever had to contend with generally for though for
02:40Haya toys I don't have any problems when it comes to attaching display stands yet
02:43though for these eye brackets I seem to have a harder time anyways you can
02:46attach the two together and just think of it this way the more you get the more
02:50bigger of a display base you have I mean it looks really just again like it's you
02:54know Star Trek symbols on a screen it would have been interesting though if
02:58they had found a way to make them look more like transporter pads so it would
03:01make more logical sense if you have several of these together it would all
03:04look like they're standing on the transporter pad either way though you
03:08can just again take these just move this peg again this these pegs really super
03:13tight we'll move that off to the side we'll come back to I'm sure a little bit
03:16later at the end of this review the figure also as well comes with include
03:19the exact same Starfleet issued belt it so happens to be the same one that we
03:23got with Kirk one thing I didn't do though this time around is I didn't open
03:26up the belt so I would wait for this review to show you guys what it looks
03:29like so when you first get the belt I mean it's it's untouched it hasn't even
03:33been opened yet see there's a little tab right here the first time you do this
03:37this is the first time I'm doing this right now you think to yourself that
03:42came off pretty easy and I'm sure putting it back in will be just as easy
03:46until the moment you do it the first time and I'm doing it for the first time
03:50you can see like that tab when you're trying to fit it back into that hole it
03:54bends the plastic every single time and that's gonna be a history unfortunately
03:59it's gonna repeat itself I'm sure when we look at bones as well but you could
04:03do at least this if you move Spock's body out of the way at least his arms
04:07you can take the belt and just sort of suggest the idea that it's around his
04:10waist don't tell anybody to look behind the figure though because they'll
04:14realize that you haven't even done up the belt but from the front at least it
04:17gives you the idea that the belt is completely done up I do really wish that
04:21they could have used a softer plastic I do wish though that they probably could
04:24have used something other than using the way they've done it here maybe a peg
04:27that could attached on to a post I don't know but it just it's not one of the
04:31easiest belts to do up it does at least give you an opportunity to store his
04:35next accessories like the phase pistol and like the communicator similar of
04:39course just well again identical to Kirk the figure comes in clue with a
04:43communicator the communicator is dark on one side if you spin it around though
04:47you get the silver part there on the top I'm just gonna grab Kirk's here
04:50these are very very tiny there's Kirk's there's Spock's you can see they're
04:54identical looks like eyes these eyes by the way can be stored in his hand also
05:00so if you don't want to have him necessarily holster on the side it by
05:03the way it sits right on the side holster here or the little holder here
05:06but you can also of course take that and can put it into his hands just don't
05:10drop it it sits but it sits really loose there we go you want to kind of put it
05:15in between his fingers and his thumb and he holds it okay he also can of
05:19course hold the communicator you can hold the phaser the problem with the
05:22phaser though is I can't really do anything right now until I change out
05:24the hand out of the packaging Spock comes defaulted with his with his Vulcan
05:29gestured to live long and prosper hand he does have though a gripping hand he
05:35does also have by the way a closed hand so I don't know if I'm really gonna be
05:38using those at all but he does have of course the much more needed gripping
05:42hand of course if you want to have them displayed with the phaser to take the
05:45hand it's just gonna be a case of removing it from the peg and then we'll
05:49take the new hand and we'll just attach this onto the peg not the easiest thing
05:54I will say not the easiest thing at all to get in place the problem with it
05:58though is that the peg is so small the easiest thing I found and even then
06:03saying this it's not the easiest thing at all but just sort of twist it twist
06:07it as you're putting it on the peg and just hope that you've got it all the way
06:10on there which I think I do then you can take yourself the phaser the phaser will
06:14slide into his hand I know I know we didn't really spend a lot of time
06:17looking at the phase I'll show you guys what that looks like in a second so
06:20communicator one hand phaser on the adjacent hand that's what it looks like
06:24with the phaser by the way I like the phaser other than just the I know I said
06:28this already except for the front being the part that flips around so on the
06:32back I don't know if you can actually see it it looks like there's a little
06:35bit of red that they've added to it am I am I just seeing that or is it actually
06:39there and then the front part looks like it's been set to stun let's take those
06:44out right now and we'll just put them off to the side there's such small
06:47accessories I know I'm gonna be losing them let's take off the belt and we'll
06:51also put that off to the side too and getting getting a closer look at Spock I
06:54feel like the same thing I said for Kirk will be the same thing I say for Spock
06:58good likenesses Zachary Quinto I believe is the gentleman that was playing Spock
07:03and all those three films I think the likenesses are there I think the only
07:06thing that lets these figures down is the coloring that they chose for the
07:09skin color I feel if anything they should be a little bit darker I think
07:14I mentioned this with Kirk like the coloring was okay but it was way too
07:17light and he had a fair bit of pink on the front of his face Spock sort of
07:21follows that same suit by also adding I feel like just way too light of a skin
07:25tone for his face the likeness is there but I feel like the paint maybe lets it
07:29down just a little bit of course they painted in the eyebrows well for the
07:33eyes as small as they are too I think they've done a decent job there as well
07:36and you can see that he painted the lips no paint problems at all other than just
07:40really the paint being too light on the figure of course for his tunic as Spock's
07:44got himself a blue tunic this time around has still the Star Trek symbol
07:48there on the top corner he has the panel lining of a lighter blue added in there
07:52as well nowhere nowhere you'll see on this figures the tiny little Star Trek
07:56symbols one of my least favorite assets of the Star Trek uniforms is the fact
08:00they had to add those little tiny symbols this by the way is still using a
08:04softer plastic and again probably one of the reasons why they're using the softer
08:07plastic even though really like if you're looking at the torsos that the
08:10outfits are exactly the same but it's probably just so that it'd be a lot
08:13easier to tool that rather than tooling a body straight from scratch but yes it
08:18does seem like the arms are the same except for the lower part of the arms
08:21obviously Kirk has three three stripes on his slaves Spock only has just the
08:26two the hands also look like they're using very similar style of hands
08:30clearly using also the same lower legs and the same style of boots because of
08:34that also Spock has the exact same levels of posability the figure does
08:38have first of all a I would say necessarily a ball joint where it's a
08:42head and a neck of separate pieces what you're doing though is when you're
08:45moving the neck you move in the head as well but both of them are on a ball
08:48joint the ball joint is actually tucked beneath the tunic collar piece so again
08:52when you're moving it up and down you can kind of feel like it moves a little
08:55bit of the top of the shoulder you can also rock it back and forth there as
08:58well you can rotate the head all the way around being that they're also using
09:01ball joints suppose if you want to have some fun if you have a figure of similar
09:04size you probably could just pop the head off Spock and replace it with
09:07another figure which is probably what they're probably gonna be doing with
09:10other exquisite mini figures the arms rotates all the way around you can also
09:14bring the arms out at about 90 degrees there's a single hinge only in the elbow
09:18but it allows at least the form to rotate back and forth the hands careful
09:22careful don't want those to fall off the peg do rotate back and forth whether you
09:26want to use this hand or you want to use the live long and prosper hand again
09:30they attach the exact same way upper torso I noticed with Spock his torso
09:34moves a lot freer than Kirk's did underneath though all that but behind
09:39the scenes below the curtain you can actually see I don't know if you can see
09:41it or not it's attaching there by a ball joint so it doesn't do a fair good
09:45movement being able to rotate the figure all the way around legs split out ball
09:50joints there yeah you can bring the legs forward you can bring the legs back one
09:53thing I didn't actually really talk too much about when it came to Kirk and I'll
09:55mention it here for Spock is that they have the drop-down legs I don't imagine
10:00that they're probably gonna be releasing vehicles at any later date but
10:03if they did probably will help to aid the figures to sit I mean they sit okay
10:07as they are but you can also drop the legs down to give a little bit of a
10:11space here so the legs kick a little higher than before and then you just pop
10:15the legs back in place still get the splits you still get a swivel there at
10:19the top of the thigh double hinge on the knee articulation in the boots
10:22articulation in the ankle and a rocker there as well Spock looks good Spock
10:27actually both him and Kirk have looked good the only thing again I would say is
10:31when looking at these figures let's just bring back in just bring back in Kirk I
10:34guess probably should have used the display stands for these the two figures
10:38while still using I'm sure a lot of the same mold the only thing that really
10:41does give Kirk a little bit more of the height is probably the hair on the top
10:45of his head if anything while still using the same bodies we what we end up
10:49landing here with is some decent-looking Star Trek figures truth be told yes I
10:54think the likenesses probably could have been a just a little bit better had the
10:57scale been a little bit larger but considering that really that these are
11:01118 scale I think not high as knock knock another park when it comes to
11:05sculpting truth be told though I think the coloring of the skin probably could
11:09have been a little bit darker both for Kirk and Spock I feel the skin
11:13complexion is way too light and also adding some of the the pinks that they
11:16added to Kirk maybe takes some of the features away from his face that it
11:20doesn't look as much like pine but I think in both the cases it does look
11:23like the actors the accessories again are gonna be this still the same I mean
11:27I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing at all considering that they're
11:29both part of Starfleet that they also have matching Starfleet issued weapons
11:34and of course the belt speaking again of the belt the only thing is again like
11:38the way they've handled the belt here it's just it's not the easiest thing
11:41that once you get this detached and I knew this was gonna happen once you get
11:45it detached this belt never seems to close properly again I wish that they
11:49could have fixed this and maybe they might be able to fix this moving forward
11:52with some of the future figures we may get from the Star Trek universe I still
11:55remember first being introduced to Zachary Quinto on the TV show heroes and
11:58saying loudly you know if they ever were to reboot the Star Trek universe he
12:02would be my pick for Spock several years later and then being able to rub that in
12:07everybody's faces we did get ourselves a decent Quinto Spock although the films
12:12themselves for this JJ Abrams Star Trek universe leave something to be desired
12:16the first one I liked the last one was good the middle one sort of just did a
12:20lot of fan service and unnecessary introducing Kahn when I didn't think
12:24Kahn needed to be the big bad guy so early on what we get though here for
12:29for Haya Toys is essentially these characters scaled down to 118 scale what
12:34we're getting here with Spock is a pretty good likeness to Zachary Quinto
12:37short of maybe perhaps the skin complexion being a tad bit too light
12:41it's still one of the issues that I had also with Kirk not that the likenesses
12:45weren't there but I feel like the likenesses may perhaps be lost a little
12:49bit by the way that the paint was handled the head sculpts though being as
12:53good as they are the figure bodies as well are using the exact same from Kirk
12:57to Spock and I would imagine they're probably gonna be doing the same with
13:01bones to it not necessarily a bad thing I always feel like if a company can get
13:05mileage from a mold and we get more characters from resulting of that and
13:08that's not a bad thing at all both of them do still have the problems with the
13:12belts as you saw in this review I hadn't even touched the belt I decided to leave
13:15it off until I finally hit record you guys probably saw the struggles that I
13:19had behind the scenes trying to get the belt to close shut once you do it the
13:22first time you're never gonna really get the belt shut I think really honestly
13:26they could have used just a peg with a hole on the back of the belt or again
13:31you could just do what I do just cheat just sort of use the Kobayashi maneuver
13:34I mean and then just sort of close the belt partially so anybody from the front
13:38would think that you've done it up properly anyone looking at it from the
13:41back would know that you just totally cheated if you guys are interested
13:45though like I said this guy like with Kirk is slated to drop the third quarter
13:49of 2024 like also with Kirk mentioned earlier there this guy's gonna also get
13:54an exquisite super series so if you are one that doesn't collect as much of the
13:58118 scale but you're really more interested in the exquisite super series
14:01and what high is doing so well with that line you're also gonna be getting a Kirk
14:05you're also gonna be getting a Spock of that size too big thank you once again
14:09to the folks over at hi toys that did provide the sample to brand-new JJ
14:12Abrams Star Trek 2009 series this was the exquisite series the exquisite mini
