00:00Certain death it is, and I obviously won't pass up a chance to study a new vault.
00:05Alright, let's get to it.
00:07Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at the 10 video game franchises
00:13where...guys, we just gotta throw in the towel, there's no hope for these franchises
00:18anymore.
00:26Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:30Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:35BATTLEFIELD SERIES
00:44We can acknowledge some of the great times Battlefield has brought us since its inception
00:48in 2002.
00:50Battlefield 3 was a blast to play even though the launch could have been a bit smoother,
00:55way smoother.
00:57Battlefield 1 finally explored another era of history through its military shooter mechanics,
01:02and Battlefield Hardline, while not everybody's favorite, was fun with its focus on cops and
01:06criminals.
01:10However, Battlefield 5 didn't hit as hard as its World War 1 predecessor, and Battlefield
01:192042, while still making improvements since, was an utter embarrassment for both DICE and
01:25EA.
01:26Surprisingly, 2042 still sees between 20,000 to 30,000 players per month, which is impressive,
01:33but who's to say the stain from the initial launch won't carry over and plague the next
01:37Battlefield?
01:49STARFOX SERIES
01:57StarFox went on a steady decline ever since the massive success of 1997's StarFox 64.
02:04Adventures divided fans in how Nintendo had Rare change their original Dinosaur Planet
02:08pitch into an action-adventure spinoff for their on-rails shooter series.
02:13Assault was a more welcoming change, with its blend of third-person shooting and spacefaring
02:17dogfights, but with StarFox Zero, fans were underwhelmed and a tad frustrated with Nintendo.
02:32How could you ship out a game that felt so uninspired and implemented such awkward controls?
02:38StarFox 2's long-awaited official release in 2017 showed fans why it had been canceled
02:43in the first place with its lack of innovation and fresh ideas.
02:47We haven't had a new StarFox game since then, and frankly, maybe it's time to hang
02:52up our hats.
02:54Nintendo has long followed a mantra of, we'll make a game if there's a new idea worth
02:58following, and they've lived by that even through games that may not have been mildly
03:03solid.
03:04Who knows, maybe the new generation of Nintendo developers will have something in the pipeline
03:08soon.
03:09Hopefully.
03:10I'm counting on you!
03:11Now, get prepped and go!
03:14Let's go, team!
03:16Beyond Good and Evil
03:17It's a bit odd seeing so many folks state how much they love Beyond Good and Evil when
03:28its sales history has failed to impress Ubisoft even after so many re-releases.
03:34It is a great game, but it does call into question the hype, or lack thereof, surrounding
03:39an announcement like Beyond Good and Evil 2.
03:49Though it made an official reveal at E3 2017, the project has seemingly had no meaningful
03:55updates over the last several years.
03:58To make matters worse, the original game's creator came under allegations for inappropriate
04:02behavior in 2020, thus prompting him to leave Ubisoft.
04:06As for BGE2's creative director Emile Morel, he sadly passed away in 2023.
04:12Honestly, it's tough to say if BGE should even continue, or if it's even a financially
04:18viable project for Ubisoft to pursue.
04:20It's hard to say either way.
04:28Dead or Alive 6
04:38With the release of Dead or Alive 6, the franchise seemed to have a promising future with its
04:43new visuals and mechanics.
04:45Unfortunately, much of the community soon discovered a game with an awful monetization
04:49model and a heavy emphasis on overpriced costumes, and the few DLC fighters were already characters
04:55that were available in last round.
05:04Sure enough, Koei Tecmo ceased updates for Dead or Alive 6, and its failure has left
05:09everyone questioning if a Dead or Alive 7 is even on the table.
05:13With no word on who would even helm the series moving forward, Dead or Alive might actually
05:17be dead now, unless Koei Tecmo figures out why Dead or Alive 5 Last Round is still being
05:23played today.
05:32Twisted Metal Series
05:42Ever since we entered the era of the PlayStation 5, Sony has had several opportunities to possibly
05:47revive Twisted Metal.
05:49First, there was the fact that Destruction All-Stars swallowed up the attention around
05:53Twisted Metal's 25th anniversary and the months that followed.
05:58Then we got the TV show, which was a shocking success for both Sony and NBCUniversal.
06:03We even got PS4 and PS5 ports of the first two games, both of which made it into the
06:08best-selling new releases for PlayStation Network in July 2023.
06:21But then, Fire Sprite's Twisted Metal project had its plug pulled following CEO Jim Ryan's
06:26departure from Sony.
06:28While the show is putting together its second season, surely Twisted Metal won't continue
06:33as just a TV show, right?
06:36Well, it sure is looking like that.
06:39At least the show's good.
06:48Killzone Series
06:58While Sony tried to complain to the FTC about not being able to compete with Call of Duty
07:02during Xbox's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, so many of us were yelling out,
07:07Sony, you have a potential franchise to compete with!
07:11It's called Killzone!
07:13However, we really should face the facts.
07:16Even though Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 were exceptional titles, the sales they brought
07:21in were not as big as we pretend they were.
07:27They are certainly nowhere close to the numbers Sony looks for from their products today.
07:32The last game in the franchise, Killzone Shadowfall, did sell a couple million copies,
07:36but with the rising costs of game development and the hundred million dollar budgets being
07:40spent on the games Sony wants to make today, those aren't the numbers they're looking
07:45for.
07:46Maybe there's some hope for a Killzone collection?
07:48Unfortunately, as far as new games go, we really shouldn't hold our breath.
07:58F-Zero Series
08:06As we mentioned earlier, Nintendo has often worked under the mentality of, we'll make
08:11a new game if there is a new idea worth following.
08:14This was explicitly mentioned in response to growing demand from fans for a new F-Zero
08:18game in 2021.
08:20Former F-Zero character designer Taka Imamura stated in an IGN interview that if Nintendo
08:26were to return to the racing franchise, it would need something innovative to justify
08:31it.
08:39In Imamura's words, quote, of course, I've thought about many times, but without a grand
08:44new idea, it's hard to bring it back, referencing F-Zero, end quote.
08:48Yes, we did get a new game in the form of F-Zero 99 in 2023, but that wasn't exactly
08:55what fans had in mind.
08:57Perhaps there really isn't a good concept for a new installment?
09:00Once again, here's hoping the new generation of Nintendo staff prove us wrong.
09:13Chibi-Robo
09:22Unlike Captain Falcon, Nintendo has tried a handful of different concepts to keep Chibi-Robo
09:28in the limelight.
09:29They gave him a game about gardening with Park Patrol, a photography game for the 3DS
09:33with Photo Finder, and an action platformer in Zip Lash.
09:36There's just one problem, none of those kinds of games are what made Chibi-Robo what
09:42he is.
09:43What most fans are wanting in a new Chibi-Robo game is basically the same thing as the Game
09:48Cube original.
09:58We want to tidy up a house, take care of a family, and meet strange creatures and toys
10:03at night.
10:04There was mystery and weirdness in the first Chibi-Robo game that none of the follow-ups
10:08have managed to reach, and now, the original team behind the first Chibi-Robo are working
10:13on a spiritual successor.
10:15That said, this might be the only shot we're going to get for a new Chibi-Robo game that
10:19we've been wanting, and its new name is Korobo.
10:32Everything Under Konami
10:41Silent Hill, Castlevania, Metal Gear, all under the Konami banner, all having met dismal
10:48fates.
10:49Despite the kickoff of its revival in 2022, Silent Hill has been on a downward spiral
10:54quicker than James Sunderland's Mental Stability.
10:57Ascension was an underwhelming and poorly contrived spinoff, while The Short Message
11:01was a free-to-play game that did not fully understand the tribulations of mental illnesses
11:05like anxiety and depression, outside of them being awful things to live with in general.
11:10So Konami is 0-2 on Silent Hill, and the remake for Silent Hill 2 is looking questionable
11:17at best.
11:25As for Castlevania, we can't seem to get a brand new game outside of the endless ocean
11:29of DLC crossovers with titles like Dead Cells and Dead by Daylight.
11:42Then we have Metal Gear, the franchise that generated a ton of dough for Konami before
11:47they cracked the whip a little too hard on Hideo Kojima and terminated his contract.
11:52Now they want him back.
11:54Granted, Konami is run by a totally different group of people than the ones who fired Kojima,
12:00however, the odds of Kojima ever wanting to work with Konami again are very, very slim.
12:05Therefore, Konami may never touch Metal Gear again outside of re-releases and remakes unless
12:11they want another Survive on their hands.
12:14And we all know how Survive went.
12:21Borderlands Series
12:31Gearbox, what have you done?
12:34Though we cannot blame the studio entirely for the travesty of the Borderlands movie,
12:38it is absolutely worth questioning the studio's handling of the Borderlands games over the
12:43last several years.
12:45Not only has the humor gone from dark and witty to juvenile and immature and oh look
12:50how random we are, cheeseburgers, in the most obnoxious ways possible, but none of the newest
12:56entries have one shred of innovative ideas that the first few Borderlands games had.
13:09Borderlands 3 had a super streamlined and vanilla selection of character classes with
13:14some truly awful writing in its story.
13:17Tiny Tina's Wonderlands was slightly better in both areas, but still didn't do much
13:21to differentiate itself from Borderlands, nor did it take advantage of its own Dungeons
13:26and Dragons inspiration for new mechanics.
13:36As for new tales from the Borderlands, who thought that anything for that game was a
13:42good idea from the start with its horrendous dialogue, lazy humor, and downright mundane
13:48characters?
13:49We do have a Borderlands 4 and a Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 on the way, and we should be
13:54excited for both, but with Gearbox's output in recent years, we do not have high hopes
14:00for either.
14:01Unless some drastic changes are made in certain departments, Borderlands may become the poster
14:06child for video games that are beyond saving.
14:18But tell us, for a more positive note to end this video on, what are some video games you
14:24think will turn out great?
