A showcase of young talent at the Zagreb Judo Grand Prix

00:00Welcome back to the Zagreb Judo Grand Prix, coming to you from the heart of Croatia's capital.

00:09Opening the event was a display of local judo talent presenting an impressive kata demonstration and a group performing the Croatian national anthem.

00:18The 2024 Zagreb Judo Grand Prix was officially open.

00:23At under 63kg, Japan's Kirari Yamaguchi used Ashi Waza to score Waza-Ari against France's Manon Décotère, and followed that up with a hold-down for Waza-Ari at Wased Ippon to earn her first Grand Prix gold.

00:38IJF President Mr. Marius Wieser awarded the medals.

00:42Hungary's Daniel Zegedli at under 73kg took his first World Judo Tour medal, and it was gold.

00:51The young athlete's magnificent Ippon brought him immense joy.

00:55Awarding the medals was IJF Director General Mr. Vlad Maranescu.

01:21At under 70kg, Sanne Vermeer of the Netherlands was a Waza-Ari down in the final, but managed to come back and score Ippon.

01:33A brilliant counterattack followed by a vice-like pin gave her a first Grand Prix gold since 2019.

01:40The medals were awarded by Dr. Sandra Chorak, Education Director of the IJF.

01:51Well, I always feel like you haven't lost until the time is over.

01:56So I never want to go home with the feeling I could have done more.

02:01So even when I'm behind, I think especially when I'm behind, I want to just give it my all and then go full in.

02:09Maybe sometimes be a bit chaotic, but then if it works, it works.

02:14At under 81kg, Viktor Sturbu earned the first Grand Prix gold of his career.

02:20Two Waza-Ari scores combined for the match-winning Ippon, a fantastic result for the Moldovan judoka.

02:27Moldova National Judo Federation Vice President Mr. Viktor Florescu awarded the medals.

02:35A showcase of local talent was on display today from the Croatian team.
