00:00Sustainability and resilience, the operative words and underlying themes in government's new country partnership strategy
00:07with the Asian Development Bank in creating programs and generating jobs in several industries.
00:13PTV correspondent Rod Laguzad tells us more.
00:19Growth is more significant than numbers alone.
00:22This was emphasized by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the ceremonial turnover
00:27of the Asian Development Bank-Philippines Country Partnership Strategy for 2024-2029.
00:33According to the President, this signifies change in the daily lives of Filipinos.
00:37He said the government focuses on renewable energy and climate solutions,
00:41especially since the Philippines is among the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
00:46The President stressed the importance of supporting private sector innovation.
00:50We must create jobs and opportunities for all
00:53with an eye to the sustainability and with an eye for our resilience as we face these new challenges.
01:01So under this new strategy, the ADB is not simply supporting projects,
01:06but it is laying the groundwork for a better future.
01:09He added that ADB's commitment to low carbon transport,
01:13renewable energy and resilient coastal development is important
01:16as annual economic losses could reach 7.6% of GDP in 2030 due to climate change.
01:23The ADB has been a steadfast partner for nearly six decades
01:27with a net commitment of almost $9 billion to the country as of mid-2024.
01:32It is the top multilateral development partner
01:34and the second largest source of official development assistance for the nation.
01:39So as we mark today's event, let us remember that the ADB's commitment of over $12 billion
01:46for the next three years is a precious vote of confidence in our shared vision
01:52for a brighter and better Bagong Pilipinas.
01:55On the part of ADB, ADB President Matsuzuku Asakawa stressed the coordination with the Philippines will continue
02:02such as on infrastructure development, climate action and poverty reduction.
02:06I want to reaffirm ADB's strong commitment to supporting the Philippines' economic and social transformation
02:13through our new country partnership strategy.
02:17Building on our shared successes,
02:20I am confident that together we will achieve remarkable progress in this new chapter of our partnership.
02:28The new CPS focuses on three critical areas,
02:30strengthening human development, boosting economic cooperation and quality infrastructure
02:35and scaling up nature-based development and disaster resilience.
02:40Rod Laguzed, from the National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines.
