EU top diplomat urges Lebanon and Israel to ease tensions along their border

“We need to de-escalate military tensions and I use this opportunity to urge all sides to pursue this path,” said EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell during his visit to Beirut.

00:21In the past, Borrell has slammed the Israeli government over the war in Gaza, saying the

00:26crisis in the Palestinian territory was a human-made tragedy.

00:30Bilateral cooperation, domestic and regional issues of concern will also reportedly be

00:36part of the discussions during his visit.

00:39Borrell will re-emphasize the need to advance diplomatic efforts with regional leaders to

00:44reach peace in the conflict, according to a media statement.

00:47Under an EU resolution, the bloc's support for the Lebanese people and a diplomatic solution

00:52are vital to restoring stability, as well as the full cessation of hostilities between

00:57Israel and Hezbollah.
