00:03It can also hit lower, but of course, since the higher one is more protruding, it will hit it first.

00:11Lightning fact number two.

00:13Not only in high places, lightning hits.

00:17There are several lightning flashes that happen between the clouds and do not reach the ground.

00:22But there is also cloud-to-ground lightning.

00:25And this is what often hits the ground.

00:28More often than not, tall objects do not hit the ground.

00:32This is not a Philippine area, and it can hit anywhere.

00:36In the Philippines, even if you are simply outside, you can still be hit by lightning.

00:41Just last month, three Filipinos were reported to have died in Pulilan, Bulacan, when they were hit by lightning while bathing in the rain.

00:51So maybe it should stay away from the plain.

00:56So the floor, it should stay away from the inside buildings, I suppose, will be the safest.

01:11I wouldn't suggest going under the tree.

01:14Maybe on a solid roof.

01:16Maybe it's better indoors, because you're safer indoors.

01:23It's safe to dive under a tree whenever lightning strikes.

01:27Standing under a tree is the second most dangerous place to be whenever there's a thunderstorm.

01:33And of course, open space is the most dangerous.

01:36In a way, it's not conductive.

01:39But because the tree has water.

01:41It's the tall one, it's the one with water inside.

01:44So it becomes, to a certain point, conductive.

01:47Because a tree is usually dominated by a side flash.

01:51In a side flash, lightning strikes the victim, who was hit by a higher object.

01:57In lighting science, aside from a side flash, lightning can also strike in other ways.

02:02The direct strike, where a person is directly hit by lightning.

02:07The ground current, where the energy from the hit object travels to the ground and can generate electricity.

02:15And the conduction that occurs when lightning strikes, happens through wires and metal surfaces.

02:22If you're using a computer, and you suddenly hear a strong lightning strike.

02:27The best way is to unplug, turn off all electronic devices, and just let the lightning strike pass.

02:36It's dangerous if our children see it.

02:39They still react differently whenever they see it.
