Approximately 450 pilgrims to the Lourdes shrine in France were evacuated after heavy rainfall caused flooding, submerging the popular pilgrimage site.

00:00Hundreds were evacuated after significant flooding at the famous Lourdes Shrine in southern
00:06France.
00:07Local officials said that the evacuated included pilgrims and residents from nearby hotels
00:12and campsites.
00:14After heavy rainfall, a nearby river overflowed, causing water levels to rise about one metre
00:19deep in front of a grotto believed by some to be the place where the Virgin Mary appeared
00:24in 1858.
00:26Staff, volunteers and emergency services worked together to clear the floodwater and reopen
00:32the sanctuary.
