Asia's strongest storm of the year, Super Typhoon Yagi, roared into China's southern island province of Hainan, China on Friday (September 6), bringing violent winds and heavy rainfall.

00:00Asia's strongest storm of the year, Super Typhoon Yagi, roared into China's southern
00:07island province of Hainan, China on Friday, bringing violent winds and heavy rainfall.
00:13Chinese state broadcaster CCTV aired footage of cars trapped by fallen trees and debris
00:19flying across the streets of Hainan's Haiku City when the typhoon made landfall on Friday
00:25afternoon.
00:26A little more than an hour after Yagi's arrival, Hainan saw power outages that affected 830,000
00:34households in the province.
00:36The storm's intensity in Hainan had weakened by Saturday, but it left behind flooded streets
00:41and scattered fallen tree branches.
00:44Clean-up operations are now underway.
00:46Yagi, with maximum sustained winds of 234 kilometers per hour near its center, is registered
00:53as the world's second most powerful tropical cyclone in 2024 so far.
00:58After hitting China, Yagi is also expected to make landfall in northern Vietnam late
01:03on Saturday.
