00:02In this video, I will explain the ending of A Lot of Nothing, so, let's begin.

00:06James and Vanessa are an elite couple living in L.A. who have just found out that their

00:10neighbor, LAPD officer Bria Stanley, has shot a kid.

00:14It's breaking news!

00:15Vanessa is enraged at how Brian shot a black kid and has had enough of his racist schemes.

00:20James, however, tells her to wait and find out the whole incident that has transpired

00:25before reaching any conclusions.

00:27As irritated as she is, she tells James to take a gun, just in case he needs it, and

00:32confront Brian.

00:33However, they end up making love.

00:36The next day, Vanessa faces prejudice at work.

00:39This adds to her rage, and she returns home only to notice Brian smoking outside his house.

00:44She confronts him about his actions and ends up being mistreated by Brian.

00:49She returns home and tells James, who has already returned from work.

00:53James is shocked at what Vanessa has done and decides to speak to Brian and clear things

00:56up with him.

00:58Talking to a cop like that is not right.

01:01As he tries to speak to Brian at his door, Vanessa pulls a gun on Brian from behind James.

01:06James is at his wits' end, seeing all that Vanessa is doing.

01:10They bring him to their garage and tape him to a chair.

01:13All this is because Vanessa wants to speak to him.

01:42Vanessa holds Brian responsible for the death of the black kid without having any proper

01:46knowledge of the incident and is bent on questioning him.

01:49She believes that Brian gets his kicks out of killing black kids, but in reality, she

01:53is just making things up in order to reach a conclusion that suits her mentality.

01:57Then, she manipulates James to follow her path too, using his bitterness to feed her

02:01emotional mechanism.

02:03James addresses this and tells her that he has been seeing a therapist and understands

02:07that the equation that they share isn't healthy.

02:10But rather than listening to him, Vanessa is shocked at how James has been talking to

02:13a woman behind her back.

02:15It is just irritating how she ignores the bigger picture to salvage what she can, which

02:19adds to her cynical mindset.

02:21But no matter how much James understands this, he still follows her while keeping his

02:25calm and sensibility.

02:27He tries to figure out how to go about getting what Vanessa wants without making things worse.

02:32There is one scene in which James stresses his manhood and shows how he is trying to

02:35prove to himself how much of a man he is by interacting with the lady Ayotte on his air

02:39bike.

02:41But we only realized this towards the end of the film when he reveals to Vanessa that

02:44he cannot father a child.

02:47Perhaps this is also the reason why he slept with Candy, his sister-in-law, i.e., to reassure

02:51himself of his manhood.

02:53But we all know that it is futile.

02:56Manhood is not only about making love to a woman or fathering a child.

02:59On the other hand, his action aren't morally right either.

03:02Vanessa, on the other hand, is someone who questions everything, so to speak.

03:07This sometimes makes her cynical and at other times, she hits the spot, for instance, she

03:12knew Candy slept with James.

03:14We do not know how she came to guess it, but she did.

03:17We can say that there will come a time when there will be people like her who will pull

03:20guns, on others only to have a civil conversation with them.

03:24So however she may be, we cannot question her, either from a moral standpoint nor from

03:28a psychological standpoint.

03:31Considering the title of the film, both Vanessa and James are a lot of nothing.

03:35Vanessa has her insecurities that result in nothing but her own pseudo-satisfaction, while

03:39James has his complex that also results in nothing but his own pseudo-satisfaction.

03:44Do James and Vanessa let Brian go?

03:47As shocking as it is, James shoots Brian.

03:50This is unexpected, especially since they now know that the kid Brian shot, not deliberately,

03:55isn't a black kid.

03:56The kid was white.

03:58So maybe the reason James shoots him is that Brian's facts contradict Vanessa's truth that

04:02Brian shot a black kid, which she evidently managed to persuade James to accept, if not

04:07believe.

04:10What adds to James' frustration is when Brian apologizes to him for shooting a kid.

04:15As surreal as it may sound, James might not be interested in Brian's killing a kid, but

04:19what bugs him is the fact that Brian apologizes to him, and it makes him look at himself as

04:23a criminal or the one who has turned out wrong.

04:26The film effectively shows a dead Brian, but as the camera is about to reveal his bloodshot

04:30face, the scene cuts to reveal Candy's newborn baby.

04:34This symbolizes Brian's death bringing about a new kid's arrival in the world.

04:38The film ends with James and Vanessa staring at the baby's face on their phone, thanks

04:42to the picture that Jamal has shared from the hospital.

04:45It's painful and unnerving because all the events that occur in the film are a result

04:49of the death of a white kid, and the film ends with a black kid being born.

04:53A Lot of Nothing has a captivating plot that appeals more to the mind than the eyes.

04:58It is definitely a worthwhile watch, as it forces us to break our heads about all that

05:02goes on in the film.

05:03You may like it, or you may hate it, but you cannot ignore it.
