Eilish McColgan gives her tips to people running the Great North Run in 2024

We spoke to elite athlete Eilish McColgan ahead of the 2024 Great North Run and asked for her top tips to get the most of the half marathon between Newcastle and South Shields.

00:00Just enjoy it. Soak up the atmosphere. There's something hugely unique about this event.

00:07Having 60,000 people all here for different causes. Some people are running for the first time.

00:13Some people are doing their 43rd one. Some people are raising funds for charities.

00:18Some people are doing it in memory of lost loved ones. Everyone's got their own reasons for being here.

00:23So yeah, I'd say just really enjoy the atmosphere. Soak it up and give it a go.

00:28We're now two days before the half marathon. What do you normally do in those couple of days before a big race?

00:33Not a lot. There's a lot of resting going on. You can't get any better at this stage.

00:40The hard work is done. All the training is done. So now it's time to let that seep into the legs.

00:45Cover hard and just do everything you can to get ready for Sunday.

00:49Yeah, I'm really excited. It'll be my first time doing the Iconic route.

00:53I've been here for the Covid course, but yeah, looking forward to being actually here at the Copper Great North Run.

00:5960,000 people is pretty spectacular.
