To Save The Sea, the new Scottish musical inspired by the protests of environmental activists in the North Sea nearly 30 years ago. North Sea protest against oil giants has inspired a new Scottish stage musical nearly 30 years later Theatre makers Andy McGregor and Isla Cowan joined forces in lockdown to start creating To Save The Sea, which will tell the story of the group of Greenpeace activists who occupied a vast oil store in the middle of the North Seas in protest at Shell's plans to dump it at sea. Their actions, which led to a boycott of Shell boycotts across Europe in 1995 and forced a rethink from the company, will be recalled in the new musical which is said to feature "heartbreaking ballads, outrageous villains, rock music and comedic cabaret" while asking important questions about Scotland, oil and the environment
