00:00Thomas's New Trucks
00:05It was a busy, bustling day on the island of Sodor.
00:10The engines in their trucks were working very hard.
00:15Thomas was shunting trucks in the yard, but his trucks were old and rusty.
00:21It was very hard work.
00:25Then, James arrived.
00:28Look! James puffed proudly.
00:31The Fat Controller gave me some smart new trucks.
00:35They're much nicer than yours.
00:38It's not fair, moaned Thomas.
00:41I want new trucks too.
00:43The next morning, the Fat Controller had a surprise for Thomas.
00:48Thomas, your trucks are getting too old for your heavy loads.
00:53You are to have some new ones, just like James.
00:57Thomas was delighted.
01:02Thomas collected his new trucks
01:06and puffed proudly away.
01:12But when Thomas arrived at the docks, there was James.
01:16He was showing his new trucks to Bill and Ben.
01:21I've got new trucks too, puffed Thomas.
01:24They're even nicer than James's, puffed Bill and Ben.
01:28Your trucks might be nicer than you now, puffed James,
01:32but you'll never keep your trucks as clean as mine.
01:35Yes, I will, chuffed Thomas.
01:37I'll have the cleanest trucks on the island.
01:41James watched Thomas puff away.
01:45The next day, Thomas puffed into the quarry.
01:49James's trucks were already loaded.
01:52I've got my stone already, boasted James,
01:56and not a spot of quarry dust on me.
01:59I can do that too, pouted Thomas.
02:03So Thomas backed under the hopper.
02:06But just as the stone was released, Thomas's trucks chuckled.
02:11Then they rolled a bit more.
02:14Bother, puffed Thomas.
02:17Ha! puffed James.
02:20Your trucks don't look so new now, Thomas was cross.
02:28Thomas puffed to the coaling plant.
02:31This time, behave yourselves, Thomas snapped to his trucks.
02:36I want you to stay clean.
02:40When he arrived, Thomas backed carefully and slowly under the coal hopper.
02:47But the trucks chuckled, then rolled too far again.
02:53Thomas and his trucks were dirtier than ever.
03:03Later, when Thomas arrived at the washdown,
03:08there was James.
03:10See, I have got the cleanest trucks.
03:14You'll be here for hours getting yours cleaned, laughed James.
03:18Thomas was very cross.
03:23The next morning, when Thomas puffed into the yard, he had an idea.
03:28If I use my old trucks to take the coal, he puffed,
03:33my new trucks will still look clean and new.
03:39So Thomas backed up to collect his old trucks.
03:46He collected some coal from the coaling plant.
03:52Then he raced across the countryside.
03:56Ha! laughed Thomas.
03:58I can get these trucks really messy and get the coal to the docks on time.
04:04Then there was trouble.
04:06The rusty coupling broke.
04:09Thomas' trucks were rolling by themselves.
04:12Cinders and ashes, cried Thomas.
04:18Thomas applied his brakes, but he stopped too quickly.
04:23The trucks bumped into the back of Thomas, and the coal spilled all over the tracks.
04:30Thomas was stuck.
04:36Soon the Fat Controller arrived on Harvey.
04:39Chummers, these trucks are too old for pulling coal,
04:44the Fat Controller said sternly,
04:46and now you have caused confusion and delay.
04:50Sorry sir, said Thomas.
04:55Harvey and the workmen soon cleared the tracks.
04:59But Thomas still had to deliver the coal to the docks.
05:03So he raced back to the shunting yards.
05:08And this time he collected his smart new trucks.
05:20Harvey and the workmen loaded the coal into Thomas' trucks.
05:25Their new trucks were soon filthy.
05:28But they were filled with coal and ready to go, and they were very happy.
05:36Thomas raced to the docks.
05:39Suddenly the trucks weren't being troublesome.
05:44They rolled easily up hills.
05:48They rattled quickly down hills, and they sang all the way.
05:58Thomas raced into the docks.
06:02We need to unload quickly, the dock manager called.
06:06But don't worry, we'll try and keep your new trucks clean.
06:10That's okay, puffed Thomas.
06:12My trucks would rather be useful than clean.
06:16Just then, James puffed into the docks.
06:20Look at your trucks, boasted James.
06:24Filthy again, not like mine.
06:27James tried to pull away,
06:29but his troublesome trucks didn't want to be clean anymore.
06:33Hold back, hold back, they chuckled.
06:36Just then, Cranky's cable snapped.
06:39He dropped a large crate of melons.
06:46Bother, puffed James.
06:49James, tooted Thomas.
06:51I think trucks like to be useful rather than clean.
06:55And all the trucks agreed.
