00:00We are ready in the heat of Monza, it's lights out and away we go, Piastri slightly quicker off the line

00:07Norris moves over to try and come cover him, here comes George Russell though, Lando Norris leads

00:12Piastri moves to the left to put pressure on George Russell into the first corner, Russell locks up

00:18Lando Norris leads from Oscar Piastri, the two Ferraris get slightly pinched, Russell is going

00:22to have to concede places, he took to the runoff area but they've got the start right and Lando

00:27Norris leads through Curva Grande, very smart from the two McLaren drivers, Piastri tucked in

00:32Norris gave him the slipstream and then they didn't squabble too much in the first chicane

00:37they are in the second chicane, squabbling and Piastri takes the lead of the Italian Grand Prix

00:43and Norris under pressure as Charles Leclerc now comes through at the first Lesmo, so once again

00:48Lando Norris will not finish the opening lap of a race when starting on pole in the lead of that race

00:53this the race start then we can look at once more and it was all okay and everything cordial

01:00at McLaren into the first corner at least yeah and Piastri then goes outside to protect that

01:07position and that's what caught George Russell out was Piastri having to slow down a lot on the

01:13outside line so McLaren have got it all covered at this point and I don't think Norris expected

01:20his teammate to pull that move we're going to go on board with George superstar and this is where

01:26you get the formation play with the two McLaren slipstreaming Piastri will come over very quickly

01:31and then slows down and then George had to get so much brake on to avoid the back of the McLaren

01:39and fed back in eventually he was third I think if he'd have been able to duck in a bit harder

01:44a bit earlier he didn't need to give so much away here we go Piastri late on the brakes Norris gets

01:49back off the brake pedal nearly drops it in the middle of the chicane and that is where Leclerc

01:54comes through and really McLaren did not need that going on they had a collision on lap 24

02:00last year they almost had a collision on lap one this year and that's where Charles Leclerc

02:05seizes his opportunist moment and squeezes through to take second place is about to have his teammate

02:11right behind him there goes Perez with DRS it's 10 kilometers an hour extra speed down the straight

02:17which has been lengthened this year by 100 meters and Sergio Perez very glad that the DRS

02:22zone has been lengthened because it was just enough for him to get past 345 kilometers per hour peak

02:28speed engine singing away in eighth gear wasn't it when we were on board with Norris and this is

02:34where he slid wide oh that takes a big old nibble out of the underfloor as well um he's actually

02:43reporting understeer on the team radio suggest we do box to overtake on Leclerc box

02:50he's coming into the pits Lando Norris making his pit stop at all I tell you what

02:54was in such an eager mood to get into the pits and slow down at the last possible second

03:00he collided with the bollard I hope he did slow down enough as he crossed the line in the pits

03:04comes Charles Leclerc to respond into the pits comes Lewis Hamilton to respond to what's going

03:11on Verstappen and Perez on the hard compound tires carry on he has to on the medium tires

03:15carry on 2.5 seconds for Leclerc three tenths McLaren were faster in the pit stop sideways

03:20Lewis Hamilton out of his pit box there 2.3 seconds good stop from them Lando Norris making his way

03:27down the main straight as you can see Norris behind Charles Leclerc as he comes out onto the track

03:33Charles Leclerc behind Lando Norris so the undercut has worked for McLaren and Lando Norris

03:39moves in the sixth place but crucially ahead of Charles Leclerc this is Kevin Magnussen and Pierre

03:44Gasly Magnussen on the inside into the chicane did he leave his braking too late did he cause

03:49a collision race control might pass that off to the stewards yeah he was out of control when he

03:54arrived he was in he was in the right place they'll be right on to uh presumably they'll

04:00pit Perez shortly as well at red right rear wouldn't come off very easily took quite a few

04:07goes that's why Max Verstappen lost six seconds so Red Bull looking looking good in the early stages

04:14and a lot of their good work undone by losing four seconds at the pit stops and they're normally

04:19the pit stop meisters aren't they uh and that is why then when he came out uh he wasn't very far

04:28ahead of George Russell riding on board at the moment this might be the first overtake we see

04:33uh this uh young Argentine youngest driver on the grid 21 years old and 97 days he's got Pierre

04:39Gasly in his sights he's going wheel to wheel down into turn one and Franco Colopinto gets past

04:46Pierre Gasly and the car behind Leclerc is getting closer and George Russell is getting closer too

04:51on Sergio Perez and they're going through wheel to wheel into the first chicane Russell comes out

04:57ahead but he had to go off the track to do it so he should let Sergio Perez past him and is doing

05:02so but they avoided contact Perez now does get ahead of George Russell and is he free to go for

05:08the overtake has he given enough of that advantage back again is he going for the overtake no he just

05:13slots in he has to look faster anyway it must be said and this is where we saw Russell and Perez

05:21Perez didn't leave him a whole lot of space there but George Russell giving that place back

05:28what is he doing he gave me the position and then he raised me

05:33and he didn't overtake you though Sergio so it's not like he gained an advantage

05:39a lasting advantage it's the lack of data as here goes George Russell and he's

05:44forced onto the grass there wasn't the car's width to try and get past

05:47he does get past Sergio Perez just about hangs on to the edge of the track and does make the move

05:54George Russell having to wait that was naughty from Perez that was too late

05:58day late and a dollar short and he's got that place back momentarily he's got a front wing

06:03ahead of Russell he's going to get the inside line going into the next chicane under braking

06:07manages to squeeze that Mercedes past the red bull but I'm not sure that's the last you're

06:11going to hear of that incident as into the pits comes Oscar Piastri this is Norris's chance he

06:17should get this one done it's his time and he's going to have to take it as Piastri sets a new

06:21fastest lap Orlando Norris pulls out from behind the red bull and gets past Max Verstappen who

06:27locks up into the bargain trying to defend Norris then up into fourth and a clear 15 Oscar Piastri

06:35pulls out from behind the rear wing of the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz and moves into second place

06:42a very important move did it under DRS but he did it as soon as he possibly could here he comes

06:48no DRS but he's getting the slipstream is Lando Norris and he's going to stick as close as he can

06:54to the Ferrari through the parabolic earth that looks like he's close enough now with the DRS zone

07:00and it being 100 meters longer to mount the challenge down this straight there goes Lando

07:05Norris that's the easy move that he was hoping for maybe a lap ago but he is up now into third

07:12can people in the background please be awake I know this is a position but uh it's important

07:19yes copy that Max I wonder if Max is a bit concerned about George Russell behind him as

07:26well because Russell's got a little bit more pace Charles Leclerc tasted victory in Monaco

07:32his home earlier this season he is about to taste victory for the second time at his other home

07:39the Royal Park in Monza and it's a royal performance for the man they'll call King

07:43Charles around here Charles Leclerc wins the Italian Grand Prix and Ferrari have triumphed

07:50on their home tarmac Oscar Piastri comes home to take second for McLaren Lando Norris for the second

07:58week running takes the fastest lap on the final lap and that's another point and a precious point

08:04in third place Carlos Sainz will come home to take forward the head of Lewis Hamilton

08:09and Max Verstappen the championship leader Red Bull didn't have the pace today

08:14he could only finish sixth
