00:00Bridge of the Danzig U.S. Tour. We're coming to you from Phoenix in Arizona. We've got

00:11lots of Danzig videos on the way, Danzig live. A rare interview here with Glenn and Erie.

00:16Now, a little bit earlier, guys, we did talk about the success of Mother, and I just want

00:21to carry on on that theme a little bit. Did this sort of success being in a long time

00:27coming, was that all the more satisfying to you guys, or were you a little bit frustrated

00:32that a whole new audience only knew Danzig because of that one song and they didn't have

00:36a concept of the history of the band? I don't necessarily know that they didn't have a,

00:42you know, concept of the history of the band. People ask that question all the time. Yeah.

00:51And it's just like, why should we be upset if people are finding out about our band?

00:56If we didn't want exposure, we wouldn't do records and we wouldn't do videos and we wouldn't

01:00go on tour. We would stay at home and play in the garage. So that's kind of a, you know,

01:09a lot of bull. You know, when bands are like, oh, we don't want, you know, this and this

01:13and this. Well, don't do records and don't do videos and stay at home if you're really

01:17that anti all that stuff. So that's what I have to say to those bands. Can you give somebody

01:23the finger on the air here? Yeah, this is what I have to say to you bands, you know,

01:28that are saying all that crap, you know, don't do records and don't do videos. And you're

01:32not fooling anybody, you know. But I think the thing about you guys was that you had

01:37a very, very strong fan base anyway. And it wasn't like an overnight success thing, was

01:42it? You're still going to have those fans, even if, say, MTV America chooses not to play

01:47your next video. That's what I always tell people. They accept you. They don't accept

01:51you. We're going to do it anyway. You know, whatever success we get, we're still going

01:55to do it. Whether, you know, you buy it or anybody else buys it, you know, because we

01:59weren't waiting on it, you know. And if it happens, great. If it doesn't. So what? What

02:05did you say? Yeah, absolutely. But I mean, being in the spotlight with that, did it put

02:08any pressure on you when you came to start thinking about writing and recording the next

02:13album? I had pretty much decided what kind of record I was writing anyway. Totally. Like

02:17everyone probably expected, you know, Mother Part Two ain't going to happen. And as a matter

02:23of fact, MTV America did refuse to play Until You Call In The Dark. They were they were

02:29at first they said the lyrics were satanic and they came back and said, no, the lyrics

02:34aren't satanic, but these muscle women are not allowed to be in the video. So, you know,

02:39something else. Yeah. But isn't that so frustrating for you, though, that that people think that

02:47because doublespeak, it's it's typical of MTV America. So, well, of course, we're going

02:52to play you the new Danzig video very, very shortly. I'm talking about four, though, Glenn.

02:58Once again, you wrote all the songs. Now, I'm intrigued about this. Why did the others

03:05not have the chance to contribute? Is it that you feel that you're the only person that

03:08has the true vision of Danzig? No one bought me any songs. Nobody said, hey, bro, listen

03:15to this. It was I definitely liked the direction the songs were going already. It started to

03:20make me feel like, you know, way I did a few years ago or certain things. Yeah. Yeah. Touching

03:26on certain things. And I liked it and it felt real easy. And the rest, you know, John and

03:30Chuck just seemed to do everything that was needed, you know, you know, and felt good

03:35the whole time. We finished the whole songs like one one, two tries, you know, which is

03:40all came out real cool. So, I mean, if I had something that was better than that, I might

03:44say something. But in my opinion, I didn't. So, you know, a lot of the stuff later on

03:50was just stuff I had up here in my head. I tell these guys the basics. They look at me

03:53like what? And then after the basics are done, I would go in and add a lot of this like the

03:59backwards song can't speak. That was just an experiment for me when I was trying to

04:03explain to Chuck, who's a drummer at the time, what to play to. He just looked at me and

04:07just he didn't hear a beat in there. But I heard a beat in there and I actually showed

04:11him the beat. And then he saw what I was thinking. And then later on, with a lot of

04:16the other songs, I mean, we had talked about it earlier. I said, I'm going to bring back

04:21a very Sam Hayne feel to this record, which we did on Thrall on the three studio songs.

04:27And he was all for it, because personally, even around how the gods kill, we talked and

04:33said we missed a lot of that moody, eerie kind of stuff and eerie.

04:38I felt very right, you know, like like the way it was before when we originally got together,

04:42you know, whatever we whatever phases or elements we brought to it, we still wanted to kind

04:47of do what we, you know, what we do best, you know.

04:50I mean, being devil's advocate here, some people might say that a band is when you owe

04:55me money. That was a little pun there. But some people may that might say that a band

05:00is actually when all four members contribute and bring ideas to the table. So, I mean,

05:06that doesn't happen in the songwriting process. But Danzig, do you think that it's a band

05:11because of the live chemistry?

05:15I've always said this before, even though I write the songs, each guy brings, like you

05:24said, live or even to the songs once you do it, their own little distinct thing. Of course,

05:29I write all the songs, but I mean, in The Who, Townsend wrote all the songs and no one

05:32ever asked him that question. It's, you know, Fogarty wrote almost everything. Exactly.

05:37You know, so it's a chemistry thing, too. You've got four great you've got three great

05:42musicians as well in the band as well, which I think is very important. Now we're going

05:46into the first video for Until You Call on the Dark. As we said, you know, that's also

05:50it's like we might have three great musicians, but I don't know that that makes them great

05:56songwriters. I'm not saying I'm a great songwriter, but I'm saying, you know what I'm saying?

05:59I understand that. Yes, I can appreciate that. So we go into that video for brand new

06:04from Until You Call on the Dark. And as we said, this hasn't been played by MTV in America.

06:10We're playing it in Europe, as you know. Now, you didn't actually direct this clip, did

06:14you, Glenn? Well, I brought some things like we always do. Rick and I always bring stuff

06:18to it, but I did have to edit it because it came in.

06:22Yes, it's quite outrageous, this video, a bit of a Jenny torturer's theme here, I think,

06:27but a bondage going on. We like that. Anyway, here we go from the new Danzig album for here
