00:00:00♪♪
00:00:07-♪♪
00:00:09Come on.
00:00:10-♪♪
00:00:14Smells like snickerdoodle?
00:00:17Cinnamon, give it away.
00:00:19We've sold out every week since the new pastor
00:00:21let me sell them after Sunday service.
00:00:23Good, because every cookie sale counts
00:00:25when the flowers aren't blooming.
00:00:27So much for frost being over.
00:00:29The bloom is so far behind this year,
00:00:31the only thing we'll be harvesting for Easter is dirt.
00:00:34The harvest calendar is just an estimate.
00:00:36It's been off in the past.
00:00:38Can't control the weather, but we can control other things.
00:00:41I should hear back soon about our business loan application.
00:00:45Can't we just refinance?
00:00:47Not with the mortgage interiors.
00:00:50Your dad would be proud of how hard we're trying.
00:00:53I know that.
00:00:55We have enough to make it through Easter, though, right?
00:00:58Let's see what the bank says about our emergency loan.
00:01:04I don't know what we'd do without the farm.
00:01:07Well, we won't give up.
00:01:09I can still hope for an Easter miracle.
00:01:15Can I take a few of these for the road?
00:01:20Maybe.
00:01:21The, uh, tips at the cafe.
00:01:23The, uh, tips at the cafe will be extra big
00:01:26on this extra cold morning.
00:01:28Okay, I'm gonna go.
00:01:30I love you.
00:01:31I love you, too.
00:01:38Okay, right behind you.
00:01:40Here's a cool, awesome muffin.
00:01:43I have a regular latte and a double espresso mocha.
00:01:49Have a good day.
00:01:51Thanks.
00:01:52Regular.
00:01:53Hey.
00:01:54Hey.
00:01:55What can I get you?
00:01:56Good morning.
00:01:57I'll, uh, I'll have a large lavender latte
00:02:00with a dash of cinnamon, some agave, and, uh, omelette.
00:02:04Only if you have it.
00:02:05Yeah, sure.
00:02:06Give me two minutes.
00:02:09Effie, I'm pretty sure I need another two sets of hands
00:02:12to make it through the morning rush.
00:02:14How do you do it?
00:02:16When in doubt, more caffeine.
00:02:18Ah, cheers.
00:02:19Cheers.
00:02:22Wow.
00:02:23Uh-huh.
00:02:24Thank you again for letting me pick up
00:02:27some extra shifts at the cafe.
00:02:29Things are pretty tight at the farm,
00:02:31at least until the spring plume comes in.
00:02:33Well, I know you'd do anything to save the farm.
00:02:37For example, you used to love our play dates.
00:02:40You know, the ones where you just basically
00:02:42got me to help you weed?
00:02:44My dad always said that pulling weeds built character.
00:02:49Uh-huh.
00:02:50Almond milk, lavender latte, two pump agave,
00:02:53dash of cinnamon.
00:02:54Thanks, Amanda.
00:02:55Have we met before?
00:02:57No.
00:02:58You just have a nice, beautiful, labeled name tag.
00:03:03Oh.
00:03:04I forget that's there.
00:03:09Mm.
00:03:10This might be the best latte I've ever had.
00:03:13Nope.
00:03:14That, uh, that's all yours.
00:03:16Um, that's a $14 tip.
00:03:18And I'd give you a $15 if I had it.
00:03:21You see, some people drink coffee to, you know,
00:03:24drink coffee.
00:03:25I drink coffee because it's an experience.
00:03:28And yours just has just the right amount
00:03:31of lavender and agave.
00:03:33Mm.
00:03:34Not too sweet, not too floral, and just the right temperature
00:03:37for a cold day like today.
00:03:39Well, um, well, thank you.
00:03:41No, thank you.
00:03:42I've never heard anybody talk about coffee like that.
00:03:45Well, that's because we just met.
00:03:47Right.
00:03:48I appreciate your artistry, your effort,
00:03:51most of all.
00:03:52That smile.
00:03:53Have a good one.
00:03:54Have a good day.
00:03:56Um, okay, that was adorable.
00:03:59What?
00:04:00He appreciated my artistry.
00:04:02That was a $14 tip.
00:04:04I think he was appreciating more than just your artistry, Sam.
00:04:07Hi, Gladys.
00:04:09Oh, hi, Gladys.
00:04:10Amanda Raymond.
00:04:11You're in the coffee business now.
00:04:13Uh, just temporarily.
00:04:15Until the spring bloom comes in.
00:04:17Fingers crossed that spring is hiding around the corner.
00:04:20I'll just take a black.
00:04:21Oh, yeah.
00:04:22You know, I really do miss seeing
00:04:24those dedication arrangements from your farm
00:04:26in the church lobby every Sunday.
00:04:28That was really more my dad's thing.
00:04:30I know you two are close.
00:04:32Just know how much those arrangements lifted my spirits.
00:04:35I sure hope we get to see them again.
00:04:37And we hope to see you again, too.
00:04:39Um, I'm sure you'll see my mom in service on Sunday.
00:04:45Have a good day.
00:04:47Bye.
00:04:51Everything good?
00:04:53Uh, yeah, just...
00:04:55It's hard sometimes when people talk about my dad.
00:04:58It brings up a lot.
00:05:00Everyone has nothing but love for him.
00:05:03I do, too.
00:05:05Except some of those gardening puns were way too cheesy.
00:05:10Um, what was a good one?
00:05:12Oh, you grow, girl.
00:05:14Uh, what incarnation?
00:05:20Oh, here she comes again.
00:05:22Who?
00:05:24Someone who seems to lack a little sunshine in her life.
00:05:26Hi.
00:05:28I'll take the usual.
00:05:30Yes.
00:05:33Muffin, muffin.
00:05:35Nice day we've been having.
00:05:37Muffin?
00:05:42There you go.
00:05:44Keep the change.
00:05:46Have a good day.
00:05:50Not one for conversation much, is she?
00:05:52Yeah, she's a real tough cookie.
00:05:54Speaking of cookies...
00:05:56Yeah?
00:05:58I think we deserve a little cookie celebration
00:06:00after having survived that morning rush.
00:06:02My mom made a fresh batch of snickerdoodles this morning.
00:06:05Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh.
00:06:07No words.
00:06:09I have no words.
00:06:11Yum?
00:06:13Yes, that.
00:06:15Wait.
00:06:17Idea.
00:06:19How many of these can your mom make?
00:06:21Because we could sell them in the cafe.
00:06:23I was hoping you would say that.
00:06:25You set me up?
00:06:27Oh, and whatever profits we make
00:06:29can go right back to the farm.
00:06:31Okay, you don't go that far.
00:06:33Amanda, I just died and went to cookie heaven,
00:06:35so yeah, we should do that.
00:06:39Hi, how can I help you?
00:06:45Come on.
00:06:59How come they haven't come out yet?
00:07:01Because they still need time, ladybug.
00:07:05But what if something is wrong?
00:07:07I'm getting worried.
00:07:09You know what I do when I'm worrying?
00:07:11I say a little prayer.
00:07:13Why do you do that?
00:07:15Because it lets me give my worries away
00:07:17instead of letting them weigh me down.
00:07:21And I know God will take them from me.
00:07:23You really think so?
00:07:25Yeah.
00:07:27I guess I'll try.
00:07:29Hi, God.
00:07:31It's me, Amanda Raymond.
00:07:33I'm really nervous about my garden.
00:07:35Please help them grow to be big,
00:07:37beautiful, and healthy.
00:07:39Amen.
00:07:41How was that?
00:07:43That was perfect.
00:07:55I know that you'd probably
00:07:57be praying right now.
00:07:59Prayers can't melt ice.
00:08:03They can't bring you back.
00:08:11Are you okay?
00:08:13I think so.
00:08:15No bumps, no bruises, thank goodness.
00:08:17Do you live nearby?
00:08:19Closer to town.
00:08:21My husband and I just moved here.
00:08:23I'm going to call him.
00:08:25He's going to come and get me.
00:08:27Also, get your car out with our tractor.
00:08:29But, um, should we go inside?
00:08:31It's freezing out here.
00:08:33For God's sake.
00:08:35Amanda.
00:08:37Oh, sorry.
00:08:39Just watch your step.
00:08:41I'm just a little shooken up.
00:08:43I'll put the kettle on.
00:08:45Nothing better than a hot cup of cocoa
00:08:47on a frigid day.
00:08:49Cheers to that.
00:08:51Oh, you have a lovely home.
00:08:53Do you live here with your husband?
00:08:55No, I am single.
00:08:57It's my parents' house.
00:08:59Well, um, it's actually my mom's house.
00:09:01My dad died last year.
00:09:03Sorry to hear that.
00:09:05I did see
00:09:07the sign on your
00:09:09farm out front.
00:09:11The Raymond Pick Your Own Bouquet flower farm?
00:09:13Yeah, that's our family business.
00:09:15I know it doesn't look like much
00:09:17right now, but hopefully
00:09:19in a few weeks
00:09:21it'll be a cornucopia of color out there.
00:09:23Oh, yeah, the weather.
00:09:25It's either they're a gardener's
00:09:27greatest ally or worst enemy.
00:09:29Let me guess.
00:09:31Pink peonies and maybe
00:09:33a row of purple hyacinths to complement
00:09:35them and, oh, I can imagine a wide
00:09:37array of tulips.
00:09:39Perfect Easter flower and
00:09:41maybe a hybrid or two
00:09:43when they cross-pollinate.
00:09:45Okay, Lori.
00:09:47Most people don't know the difference between a daisy
00:09:49and a daffodil.
00:09:51It's a secret.
00:09:53My whole life has been the business of flowers, dear.
00:09:55So you're a florist?
00:09:57Was for 40 years.
00:09:59I'm officially retired now.
00:10:01It's just a hobby.
00:10:03I don't even compete in the annual
00:10:05Easter flower arranging competition anymore.
00:10:07But you have. Have you ever won?
00:10:09Oh, I haven't.
00:10:11But I placed second last year in my highest finish.
00:10:13So I'm sitting with
00:10:15floral royalty is what you're saying?
00:10:17Certainly not the queen, but
00:10:19the court.
00:10:21Um, I can go get my
00:10:23tractor and we can get you back on the road?
00:10:25Oh, I certainly appreciate that.
00:10:27Thank you
00:10:29so much.
00:10:31Amanda?
00:10:33Is there anything
00:10:35that I can do to repay
00:10:37you for your help with my car?
00:10:39Well, can you pull a miracle and
00:10:41melt the ice out there?
00:10:43You really need a bloom, huh?
00:10:45You know the flower business. We make most of our money during
00:10:47different seasons and with the Easter bloom
00:10:49being so far behind.
00:10:51Sadly, my alter ego isn't
00:10:53Mother Nature, but
00:10:55what about that Easter flower
00:10:57arranging competition?
00:10:59I mean, the prize is $20,000.
00:11:01Wow.
00:11:03I mean,
00:11:05that would be enough to
00:11:07get us through the season.
00:11:09Except there's just
00:11:11one tiny, huge problem.
00:11:13I'm a farmer,
00:11:15not a florist. I mean, that's why we have our customers
00:11:17pick their own bouquets.
00:11:19Well, that's where I come in. I mean, I know six weeks
00:11:21is not a lot of time, but
00:11:23I can teach you what you need to compete
00:11:25if you're willing to learn.
00:11:27The cost of flowers alone?
00:11:29No, no, no. I can handle it.
00:11:31And we can always practice with silk flowers.
00:11:33I mean, think about it.
00:11:35We might even dethrone
00:11:37Queen Constance
00:11:39Hughes.
00:11:41Constance?
00:11:43I've been doing this for 10 years in a row.
00:11:45And, uh,
00:11:47come on.
00:11:49Just take my number here.
00:11:55There you go.
00:11:59This is a very
00:12:01generous offering.
00:12:03I'm sure it'd be fun to learn.
00:12:05But
00:12:07I couldn't compete.
00:12:09I'd be going against people with years
00:12:11of experience.
00:12:13Thank you, but I'll just have to
00:12:15find some other way to keep us afloat.
00:12:17Okay.
00:12:19Call me if you
00:12:21change your mind.
00:12:23I will. Come on, let's go get your car.
00:12:25Yes, please.
00:12:31No, I understand.
00:12:33You're just doing your job.
00:12:37Hey, is everything okay?
00:12:39That was the bank, Amanda.
00:12:41Our last two years of sales
00:12:43just aren't enough
00:12:45to give them confidence to approve the loan.
00:12:47But that was our
00:12:49Hail Mary to get caught up.
00:12:59I have to do it.
00:13:01Do what?
00:13:03The statewide Easter flower arranging competition.
00:13:05The first prize is $20,000.
00:13:07It's at least enough
00:13:09to keep us afloat until the bloom comes.
00:13:11Flower arranging.
00:13:13Is this a skill that you've been hiding from me?
00:13:15Hiding from
00:13:17everyone?
00:13:19Including myself.
00:13:21But I met a florist yesterday
00:13:23and she's retired, but she's
00:13:25competed before and she said she'd
00:13:27teach me.
00:13:29Your dad would love to hear that.
00:13:31I have to at least try.
00:13:33Maybe our last hope.
00:13:35Well, a little bit
00:13:37of hope is all we need.
00:13:41Amanda,
00:13:43I have to ask,
00:13:45what made you
00:13:47change your mind about the competition?
00:13:49Our
00:13:51business loan application
00:13:53got denied, so
00:13:55winning the competition prize money
00:13:57feels like maybe
00:13:59the farm's last hope.
00:14:01Then let's not waste any
00:14:04time.
00:14:06Take a look at your blank canvas.
00:14:10Oh, I know that look.
00:14:12The
00:14:14I-have-no-idea-where-to-begin look?
00:14:16Yeah, that one.
00:14:18Let's just have fun to start
00:14:20and we'll see what we're working with.
00:14:24Uh, so,
00:14:26hyenas
00:14:28and ranunculus,
00:14:30iris
00:14:32and good old classic
00:14:34got some roses. Yeah, you do know
00:14:36all the names of the flowers and how they grow, but I
00:14:38I want to see you actually
00:14:40create something.
00:14:42I think that my creative side
00:14:44is still hibernating for winter.
00:14:46It's a good thing there's no pressure.
00:14:48Come on, just have fun.
00:14:50Okay, you asked for it.
00:14:52All right.
00:14:56So
00:15:00and, um
00:15:04rock with roses.
00:15:14I call it
00:15:16a thorn amidst
00:15:18roses.
00:15:20It's rough, I
00:15:22know, but I am
00:15:24ready and willing to do whatever
00:15:26it takes. That's the spirit.
00:15:28Don't be so hard on yourself, you've got a lot to learn.
00:15:30There are five principles to
00:15:32floral design. You master those, you've got
00:15:34a chance to win. They are harmony,
00:15:36contrast, purpose, balance, and
00:15:38oh, I'm
00:15:40going to keep the last one a secret.
00:15:42A secret? Well, I mean
00:15:44don't I need all five to
00:15:46win the competition? A secret for
00:15:48now, at least. I mean, it's something
00:15:50that you can only learn after you've succeeded
00:15:52at the first four, but
00:15:54let's get on with it.
00:15:56The first principle is harmony.
00:15:58Harmony?
00:16:00Yeah. We're going on
00:16:02a field trip for this one. Come on,
00:16:04let's take a walk.
00:16:06Okay.
00:16:12Lesson awaits.
00:16:14Inside?
00:16:16Is everything okay?
00:16:18I...
00:16:20I haven't been back inside
00:16:22since my dad's funeral and
00:16:24that was over a year ago.
00:16:26So it brings
00:16:28back a lot.
00:16:30A lot. Hey, Mom!
00:16:32Oh, Derek! Hey!
00:16:34Perfect timing.
00:16:36Meet Amanda Raymond, she's the flower
00:16:38protege I was telling you about.
00:16:40We've met.
00:16:42Uh, Mr. Lavender Latte.
00:16:44Mm-hmm. It's good to see you.
00:16:46Minus the name tag.
00:16:48I'm Derek.
00:16:50The new pastor.
00:16:52It's a pleasure.
00:16:54Well, I don't want to get in the way of flower training
00:16:56and leave a quiet practice
00:16:58myself, so...
00:17:00Oh, as you
00:17:02can hear, I need all the help I can get.
00:17:04Well, we're on our way there as well.
00:17:06Alright, I'll see you inside.
00:17:08I'm
00:17:10only... of course
00:17:12you're ready.
00:17:30I just need a moment.
00:17:32Take your time.
00:17:52Thank you. Just thank you.
00:17:54Pink was Sonya's favorite color.
00:17:56Yeah.
00:18:08Laurie, I... I'm...
00:18:10I can't.
00:18:22Are there rules or instructions?
00:18:24This feels a bit more involved
00:18:26than your average club.
00:18:28No, not really. People just choose a book blindly
00:18:30based on my clues and if they like it enough to discuss
00:18:32they come back the following week.
00:18:34If you're that curious, our next one is tomorrow
00:18:36and lucky for you
00:18:38It's historical romance. Can we just call it literature?
00:18:40You can call it whatever you want.
00:18:42Just make sure you reach the reader who will appreciate
00:18:44your work. Like you did in the
00:18:46Parachute series. Hmm.
00:18:48Thank you. You've got a lot of fans on this island.
00:18:50Including you?
00:18:52Teen fans. If you're in,
00:18:54tomorrow is a potluck picnic in honor of the
00:18:56garden atmosphere in the book and afterwards
00:18:58we'll be arranging flowers. Oh, sounds
00:19:00very civilized. But maybe don't mention
00:19:02your last name or what you do for a living. Right.
00:19:04It could hinder the convo
00:19:06Sounds good. Good.
00:19:08I should warn you though, the group can be pretty
00:19:10fierce. Let's hope you're a fast reader.
00:19:12Oh, fun fact about me.
00:19:14I'm actually a speed reader.
00:19:16Blind Date Book Club. All new next
00:19:18Saturday at 8. Only on Hallmark.
00:19:22I know.
00:19:24I'm ruining the lesson.
00:19:26Don't feel bad for one sec.
00:19:28You know, it's not one of the
00:19:30five principles, but the key to any successful
00:19:32arranger is the ability to adapt.
00:19:34Not every arrangement
00:19:36is going to go exactly as you want it to.
00:19:38Amanda,
00:19:40everything okay?
00:19:42Yeah, I
00:19:44I'm just not ready
00:19:46to go back in there, Pastor.
00:19:48Please, only Pastor on Sundays.
00:19:50It's Derek. Don't be
00:19:52so hard on yourself.
00:19:54If you're not ready, it's on your time.
00:19:56Okay? And I'd be happy to open the door
00:19:58for you if and when that time comes.
00:20:00I
00:20:02appreciate it.
00:20:04It's very chivalrous.
00:20:06Well, I was raised well.
00:20:08I'll let you two get to it.
00:20:10Hope to see you again.
00:20:18This is like
00:20:20antique. Well, it's very retro.
00:20:22Now for your lesson.
00:20:24I want you to pay
00:20:26special attention to each
00:20:28person's solo.
00:20:30That
00:20:32soprano,
00:20:34alto,
00:20:36tenor,
00:20:38bass.
00:20:42Right, okay.
00:20:44I'm following.
00:20:46Here's the best part.
00:20:50The harmony.
00:20:52Yes!
00:20:54So,
00:20:56I think
00:20:58we can agree
00:21:00that individually
00:21:02these flowers are
00:21:04lovely, right? Right.
00:21:06Now I want you to close your eyes.
00:21:08Close your eyes.
00:21:10And I want you to imagine that the
00:21:12quartet is singing.
00:21:22Voila!
00:21:24How did you...
00:21:26Your first lesson, Grasshopper?
00:21:28I'm more of a
00:21:30ladybug person.
00:21:32Noted.
00:21:34See, the key
00:21:36is to look for ways for the flowers
00:21:38to complement one another.
00:21:40Now,
00:21:42you give it a try,
00:21:44ladybug.
00:21:46Okay.
00:21:50So as you can see,
00:21:53So as you can see,
00:21:55we've substantially upped our offer.
00:21:57Really taking into consideration the value
00:21:59and acreage of the land.
00:22:01Tom! We've told
00:22:03you before and we will tell you again.
00:22:05It's not for sale. Hi, Amanda.
00:22:07Your father was a good friend of mine
00:22:09and I'm trying to help you and your mom by
00:22:11providing another alternative.
00:22:15Is that a letter from the mortgage company?
00:22:17We're getting more
00:22:19and more behind.
00:22:21Without the business loan.
00:22:23It's a notice of foreclosure.
00:22:25Again, I don't want to be in this position
00:22:27but I'd like to give you the option to earn
00:22:29something substantial and fair
00:22:31based on what you've built.
00:22:33As opposed to other options.
00:22:35We still have time, Tom.
00:22:37And you're right.
00:22:39You and Craig were close.
00:22:41So you'd know that he would...
00:22:43Decline my offer. Respectfully.
00:22:47I'm rooting for you.
00:22:49Reach out to me before you hear from the bank again.
00:22:53You know where to find me.
00:23:01Foreclosure?
00:23:03How did this happen?
00:23:05No reserves. And bad weather.
00:23:07And your dad
00:23:09was the flower whisperer.
00:23:11I should have put back here when dad asked me to.
00:23:13Maybe then I would
00:23:15know more about the business and...
00:23:17Emily.
00:23:19This is not your fault.
00:23:21Have faith that things will turn around.
00:23:23Why would God do this to us?
00:23:25After everything we went through with dad
00:23:27and Frost.
00:23:29And now foreclosure?
00:23:31God doesn't work like that, Amanda.
00:23:35I'll tell you what.
00:23:37I'll get more hours at the accounting firm.
00:23:39And I'll keep baking.
00:23:41And I'll give you time to practice
00:23:43so you can win that competition.
00:23:45How'd it go today?
00:23:47Yeah.
00:23:49Sorry, but
00:23:51I wouldn't
00:23:53count on winning the competition.
00:23:59God wants us
00:24:01to be joyful.
00:24:03But that doesn't mean
00:24:05we have to be happy all the time.
00:24:07There will be times
00:24:09in our lives of struggle.
00:24:11Of loss.
00:24:13But even when there are tears
00:24:15rolling down your cheeks,
00:24:17there can still be joy in your heart.
00:24:19Ultimately,
00:24:21I want you all to remember that during the Easter season.
00:24:23Joy
00:24:25can be steadfast in sorrow
00:24:27and triumphant
00:24:29in tribulation.
00:24:31Amen?
00:24:33Amen.
00:24:35Amen.
00:24:37James. Pleasure.
00:24:39Thanks for being here.
00:24:41Oh, sweetheart.
00:24:43Oh, sweetheart. Great.
00:24:47Wonderful sermon today, D.
00:24:49Or should I say
00:24:51Pastor D?
00:24:53Samuel Stevens, in the flesh.
00:24:55It's good to see you, my friend.
00:24:57Don't tell me you came all this way just to hear me preach.
00:24:59I know you're busy now, but hear me out.
00:25:01I'm starting a new venture that could be
00:25:03a really exciting opportunity for you.
00:25:05A way to connect your two passions.
00:25:07Okay.
00:25:09How was the chat?
00:25:11Catch up. We'll talk soon.
00:25:13Good to see you.
00:25:15You too.
00:25:17Pastor?
00:25:19Egg salsade.
00:25:21Okay, you get a hall pass.
00:25:23Lavender latte, just the way you like it.
00:25:25And what did I do to deserve this?
00:25:27You know, token of my
00:25:29appreciation for your very
00:25:31generous tip the other day.
00:25:33But I don't want to keep you from the congregation.
00:25:35Please, my congregation's too busy
00:25:37So, um
00:25:39I've got an hour until my next service.
00:25:41Do you care for a walk?
00:25:43Uh, sure.
00:25:51So how are you liking town so far?
00:25:53I love it. Although for me
00:25:55it's a bit cold.
00:25:57Yeah, my parents grew up
00:25:59in Vermont, so they're used to it, but
00:26:01I was raised mostly in the south.
00:26:03You know, come to think of it, people here
00:26:05are like the weather there.
00:26:07Warm.
00:26:09Your mom said that you are a bit
00:26:11of an outdoorsy type.
00:26:13That's my mom.
00:26:15Loves talking about her son.
00:26:17But she's right, I do love being
00:26:19outside. It's my
00:26:21happy place.
00:26:23She also, uh, mentioned
00:26:25four-wheeling?
00:26:27Did she?
00:26:29And axe throwing.
00:26:31Of course she did.
00:26:33What else?
00:26:35Skydiving.
00:26:37That's actually a lot of fun.
00:26:39If I met you today, I never would have
00:26:41guessed.
00:26:43Is it the clean-shaven,
00:26:45tailored suit jacket,
00:26:47polished dress shoes thing?
00:26:49It's not your typical mudding outfit?
00:26:51Can't say I've met too many
00:26:53pastors who like axe throwing
00:26:55and skydiving.
00:26:57Well, if you can't tell, it means I'm doing a good job.
00:26:59What does that mean?
00:27:01I'm new to this town.
00:27:03So, I don't want people
00:27:05you know, knowing about
00:27:07my extreme adventure side.
00:27:09Just yet.
00:27:11You think that they'd really care what you do
00:27:13for fun when you're not working?
00:27:15They have a lot of trust in me.
00:27:17And being a pastor is a big responsibility.
00:27:19I don't want people thinking that I'm reckless
00:27:21and irresponsible during my downtime.
00:27:23I hope you can understand.
00:27:25Can we just keep this
00:27:27between us?
00:27:29Seriously?
00:27:31Uh,
00:27:33sure.
00:27:35Only if you tell me more about
00:27:37skydiving.
00:27:39I never prayed so hard in my life.
00:27:51Amanda, it's six in the morning.
00:27:53What are you doing?
00:27:55I couldn't sleep and wanted to start prepping things
00:27:57for this later today.
00:27:59Well, let me help.
00:28:03Saw you got to meet her son.
00:28:07Mom, it's not like that.
00:28:09He's the pastor and
00:28:11I don't know, we're just in
00:28:13two different places.
00:28:17You know, when I met your father at the farmer's market
00:28:19we were both searching for the perfect bouquet.
00:28:21And both found it exactly
00:28:23the same time.
00:28:25He insisted on buying it
00:28:27and I let him.
00:28:29Only to have him purchase it
00:28:31and give it to me.
00:28:33But while your father was a man
00:28:35who was incredibly firm in his faith
00:28:37he was also a man who was
00:28:39always willing to meet me
00:28:41wherever I was in my faith journey.
00:28:43And I just met Derek
00:28:45I don't know that much about him.
00:28:47Well, and I'm sure he has a lot to learn
00:28:49about you too.
00:28:51Just do yourself a favor.
00:28:53Don't let your own fears get in the way.
00:29:01You were always dad's ladybug.
00:29:05The ladybugs are returning.
00:29:07There's a slight bit of hope
00:29:09that the ground will soften soon.
00:29:15Well, a slight bit of hope
00:29:17is all we need.
00:29:23Amanda.
00:29:25Are all of these
00:29:27table arrangements yours?
00:29:29Yeah, I'm practicing for
00:29:31a flower arranging competition.
00:29:33Why are you using fake flowers?
00:29:35Well, the frost and I
00:29:37don't have the budget for a fresh one
00:29:39so I've just been using fake ones to practice.
00:29:41Practicing with fake flowers?
00:29:43That just won't do.
00:29:45Please, let me donate to your flower fund
00:29:47and I'll take all of your mom's cookies too.
00:29:49No, no, you can't.
00:29:51No, no, you can't.
00:29:53It's too generous.
00:29:55Of course I can.
00:29:57Consider it an investment in you and your talent.
00:29:59My reward comes in the beautiful
00:30:01arrangements I get to see from you.
00:30:03Here and at church.
00:30:07Thank you, Gladys.
00:30:10Okay.
00:30:12As much as I would love to take a break
00:30:14and go shopping, shouldn't we be
00:30:16focusing on flowers?
00:30:18Ladybug, you have much to learn.
00:30:20Lori!
00:30:22Right on time.
00:30:24Amanda, so good to see you.
00:30:26I am so excited that you came in today.
00:30:28Our spring line just came out
00:30:30and let me tell you, it is amazing.
00:30:32Feels like you should be here.
00:30:34I'm so excited.
00:30:36I'm so excited.
00:30:38It is amazing.
00:30:40Feels like you should be focusing more on pushing scarves
00:30:42and jackets with the current weather.
00:30:44Well, you know what?
00:30:46If you think spring, then it will come.
00:30:48But?
00:30:50What do you say we try on some outfits?
00:30:52Yes.
00:30:54Amanda, I want you to pick out an outfit.
00:30:56Any outfit?
00:30:58Whatever moves you.
00:31:08Very cute.
00:31:10Bright.
00:31:12Oh, it's bright.
00:31:14What do you think?
00:31:16It's lovely, but
00:31:18now follow me.
00:31:28There you go.
00:31:30There you go.
00:31:34Yes.
00:31:36Very attractive.
00:31:38Angelic.
00:31:40Yes.
00:31:42Oh, I think
00:31:44that's it.
00:31:46Okay.
00:31:48More on this?
00:31:50No.
00:31:52Try something else.
00:31:54Oh, my goodness.
00:31:56Yes.
00:31:58Please.
00:32:04Oh, yeah.
00:32:06Baby.
00:32:10So what seems like
00:32:12a fun fashion show
00:32:14is actually a valuable lesson in floral design.
00:32:16You're going to learn that very soon.
00:32:24Come on.
00:32:28So
00:32:30is there
00:32:32a reason you're avoiding
00:32:34Constance?
00:32:36Constance
00:32:38and I
00:32:40used to be best friends.
00:32:42Used to be?
00:32:44We worked in the same florist shop
00:32:46for years.
00:32:48She had such an eye for design.
00:32:50There was so much laughter.
00:32:52We worked so many hours in that shop
00:32:54creating arrangements
00:32:56for every occasion.
00:32:58It's missing something.
00:33:00Something bright
00:33:02and yellow.
00:33:04A sunflower.
00:33:06There was a signature
00:33:08to all our designs.
00:33:10It was a single sunflower.
00:33:12I like to think that it represented
00:33:14the brightness of our friendship
00:33:16until
00:33:18circumstances changed that forever.
00:33:22You see
00:33:24we had a plan.
00:33:26We were going to open our own
00:33:28floral shop
00:33:30and then I
00:33:32met Don.
00:33:34Fell in love. Got engaged.
00:33:36He relocated for work
00:33:38and I had to make
00:33:40a choice.
00:33:42Follow my fiance
00:33:44or keep my promise
00:33:46to my best friend.
00:33:50Broke Constance's heart.
00:33:52She stopped talking to me
00:33:54and I did the same.
00:33:56There was no coming back from it.
00:33:58I'm sorry to hear that.
00:34:00You can imagine how tense it is
00:34:02when we see each other every year
00:34:04at competition and now
00:34:06thanks to my son we're practically neighbours.
00:34:08Why haven't you ever tried to reconcile?
00:34:10I think we're both just too proud
00:34:12to forgive.
00:34:14So
00:34:16take a look at this first outfit.
00:34:18You see how the black skirt
00:34:20really makes the red top stand out
00:34:22even more?
00:34:24Yeah, it pops.
00:34:26Yeah, it doesn't have to be just colour.
00:34:28I mean look at this one with the free-flowing skirt
00:34:30and the fitted top.
00:34:32Some shapes.
00:34:34And the stripes here
00:34:36with the solid colour.
00:34:38Patterns.
00:34:40Yes, right, you're learning.
00:34:42The second principle is contrast.
00:34:44How contrasting colours,
00:34:46patterns, shapes, textures
00:34:48can all make things stand out
00:34:50even more.
00:34:52Now look, I made this one earlier.
00:34:54It's not terribly exciting,
00:34:56is it?
00:34:58It gives a boost.
00:35:00Yeah, I think so.
00:35:02Okay.
00:35:04Okay.
00:35:12So
00:35:14what you're saying is
00:35:16that contrasting things
00:35:18can come together to
00:35:20create something that is
00:35:22beautiful. Exactly.
00:35:24Kind of like
00:35:26you and Constance.
00:35:30You.
00:35:32You caught me in my own lesson.
00:35:34Maybe
00:35:36you have something to learn too.
00:35:42I think it's too late for that.
00:35:46But you know what? I am gonna go make us
00:35:48some lunch. You're gonna
00:35:50practice contrasting arrangements
00:35:52and then I'm gonna see what you have when I get back.
00:35:56Okay.
00:36:02Hey.
00:36:04Oh, hi.
00:36:06Are you in the floral zone or
00:36:08can I say a quick hello?
00:36:10I think I would have to be
00:36:12skilled to be in the zone.
00:36:14Come on in.
00:36:16So I have to ask
00:36:18which one of these
00:36:20flowers is your favourite?
00:36:24Favourite flower?
00:36:26That's like picking a favourite child.
00:36:28I mean, I guess
00:36:30I mean, I guess I would have to say
00:36:32the hydrangeas.
00:36:34Oh. Or maybe on second thought
00:36:36carnations or... No.
00:36:38Maybe roses? I don't know.
00:36:40It's too difficult to do.
00:36:42I love seeing how passionate you are about them.
00:36:48Well, flower protégé,
00:36:50I'll leave you to your craft.
00:36:52I do have one
00:36:54very important question.
00:37:00Will you
00:37:04accept this rose?
00:37:10Well, after
00:37:12careful consideration
00:37:16I will gladly
00:37:18accept this rose. You had my heart
00:37:20pounding for a second there.
00:37:24I have another question for you.
00:37:30Hi.
00:37:44Hi.
00:37:46Is this because of you, Pascal?
00:37:48Ask your daughter.
00:37:56Alright, everyone.
00:37:58Don't be shy.
00:38:02It's time.
00:38:12So what's up?
00:38:14Well, like I said Sunday, I'm starting a new
00:38:16venture. It's a new mountain retreats
00:38:18program. We're doing week-long spiritual
00:38:20retreats for young men
00:38:22up in the Shenandoah Valley.
00:38:24It's a great experience for our retreatants
00:38:26to see nature and pray.
00:38:28I've actively been looking
00:38:30for a spiritual leader to guide
00:38:32them, but then it hit me.
00:38:34You're the perfect
00:38:36guy for the job. God,
00:38:38the mountains, it has
00:38:40Derek Matthews written all over it.
00:38:42Sammy, you know
00:38:44I would do just about anything for you.
00:38:46I mean, I wouldn't be here
00:38:48right now if it wasn't for you.
00:38:50It's just...
00:38:52I know relocation is inconvenient
00:38:54given you just moved here, but this is a
00:38:56once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
00:38:58Come on, don't you miss the mountains?
00:39:00More than anything.
00:39:02I...
00:39:04I don't rock climb
00:39:06anymore.
00:39:08That's not the only thing this is about.
00:39:10Your story is powerful.
00:39:12The agony,
00:39:14the tears.
00:39:16I want to be able to use your story
00:39:18to draw others closer to God.
00:39:24Please really think
00:39:26on it. Our first retreat starts
00:39:28shortly after Easter, so...
00:39:30So, you need
00:39:32an answer soon?
00:39:40A new concoction?
00:39:42Why not? I want to see what your creative
00:39:44side's been brewing up.
00:39:46Vanilla. Solid.
00:39:48Ooh, cardamom.
00:39:50Um, okay.
00:39:52I know that you, Amanda,
00:39:54are still kind of a coffee novice,
00:39:56but, um, I just, uh,
00:39:58just let me let you in on a
00:40:00little industry secret. You never combine
00:40:02vanilla with cardamom. They're totally
00:40:04different, opposite flavor profiles.
00:40:06They don't work together.
00:40:08Uh, yeah. Okay. Don't think.
00:40:10Just experience it.
00:40:12Yes.
00:40:14It's just that the sweetness of the vanilla...
00:40:16Hmm.
00:40:18Contrasts perfectly
00:40:20with the spice and complexity of the cardamom.
00:40:22You're a genius. What?
00:40:24No, just, uh, just a good student.
00:40:26We have to put this on the regular menu, like,
00:40:28right now. What do you want to call it?
00:40:30Maybe...
00:40:32have a ladybug latte.
00:40:34Ooh!
00:40:36Two pumps extra handsome incoming?
00:40:38Ooh! Mr.
00:40:40Lavender Latte.
00:40:42Hello. Hi!
00:40:45Good morning, Amanda, Heffy.
00:40:47Hi. I'll do my, uh, usual
00:40:49please and thank you. Oh, you know what?
00:40:51Actually, you should try Amanda's new
00:40:53creation, the ladybug latte,
00:40:55Mr., um, Pastor.
00:40:57Right. Sure.
00:40:59Ladybug latte. That sounds
00:41:01very unique. It's Amanda's
00:41:03creation. I'll try it.
00:41:05Mmm.
00:41:07Mmm, that is...
00:41:09that is divine. Thank you.
00:41:11It's delicious. Oh, um, Amanda,
00:41:13great shift today. Uh, you should, uh,
00:41:15go home. Uh, but don't I...
00:41:17No, no, no, no. Actually, um,
00:41:19we're out of your mom's cookies, so, uh,
00:41:21I'm gonna need you to make another batch of those.
00:41:23Uh,
00:41:25yes.
00:41:27Ah, cookies. Mm-hmm.
00:41:29And it would be so much easier, um,
00:41:31if there were two pairs of hands
00:41:33helping you do that. I have to stay here
00:41:35though, so I just, I wonder if there's
00:41:37anyone else who could help you.
00:41:39Mm-hmm.
00:41:41Oh, um,
00:41:43yeah, I mean, the whole reason I came
00:41:45in today was to get a little break from my
00:41:47Sunday preparations. I'd be happy
00:41:49to lend a stirring hand. Of course,
00:41:51if you don't mind. No, she doesn't mind.
00:41:53I, I don't mind.
00:42:00Have you done this before?
00:42:02What? Have you done this
00:42:04before? Oh, uh...
00:42:06Have you done
00:42:08this before?
00:42:10Is it that easy to tell?
00:42:12It's just a little. My mom
00:42:14normally takes charge in the kitchen.
00:42:16I just kind of follow her lead.
00:42:18Yeah, I never would have guessed that.
00:42:20Uh,
00:42:22so, uh, how did
00:42:24you get into the business of God?
00:42:26Oh, I see you're changing the subject now, huh?
00:42:28Oh, just, you know, redirecting
00:42:30away from this flowery fiasco.
00:42:32I'm just, um, I was just
00:42:34kind of curious. You know, to tell you
00:42:36the truth, I never thought I'd be a preacher or a pastor.
00:42:38I, um,
00:42:40I went to business school,
00:42:42of all places. Quickly found out
00:42:44the corporate world was not for me.
00:42:46So I decided to follow my passion
00:42:48for the great outdoors and teach
00:42:50rock climbing. I loved it.
00:42:52For years. But, um,
00:42:54and
00:42:56one event
00:42:58changed my life.
00:43:00I fell
00:43:0260 feet.
00:43:04I, uh,
00:43:06cracked my vertebrae in multiple places
00:43:08and had five surgeries.
00:43:10Doctor said I'd never walk again.
00:43:12Derek,
00:43:14I'm so sorry to hear that.
00:43:16Yeah.
00:43:18Yeah,
00:43:20that time in the hospital
00:43:22was like my desert.
00:43:24I didn't have much
00:43:26to turn to.
00:43:28But then I met Samuel Stevens.
00:43:30He was, uh, my outpatient therapist.
00:43:32He not only taught
00:43:34me how to walk again, but he taught
00:43:36me about God.
00:43:38He saved my life.
00:43:40I'd do just about anything
00:43:42for him. He, uh, he gave me
00:43:44his granddaddy's Bible. I started
00:43:46reading and haven't put down since.
00:43:48That book,
00:43:50it gave me hope.
00:43:52Hope turned into healing and
00:43:54before I know it,
00:43:56I was walking again.
00:43:58Wow. I mean, that's, that's
00:44:00an amazing story.
00:44:02Yeah.
00:44:04But do you ever wonder
00:44:06how you would
00:44:08feel if you were never healed?
00:44:10Of course
00:44:12I did.
00:44:14But I'm a firm believer
00:44:16in faith.
00:44:18You see, things
00:44:20happen for a reason.
00:44:22Even if you
00:44:24can't see it in the moment.
00:44:26Faith. Yeah, that's a,
00:44:28that's a hard
00:44:30one. Yeah, it is.
00:44:34Especially when things aren't going your way.
00:44:36Kind of like now?
00:44:38Yeah.
00:44:42Care to share?
00:44:44It's just, uh,
00:44:46me and a big pile of dough.
00:44:52So,
00:44:54I've been struggling a lot
00:44:56with that because every year
00:44:58my dad would pray
00:45:00for a bountiful Easter harvest
00:45:02and
00:45:04every year it seemed
00:45:06that his prayers were answered.
00:45:10So why did he, of all people,
00:45:12have a heart attack?
00:45:16When he died, I
00:45:18came home to help my mom on the
00:45:20farm.
00:45:22And after his funeral, I just
00:45:24I stopped praying.
00:45:26I stopped
00:45:28going to church.
00:45:30And then
00:45:32this year of
00:45:34all years when we
00:45:36needed our biggest Easter
00:45:38bloom yet, we've had
00:45:40the worst winter in
00:45:42decades.
00:45:44So am I supposed to trust that's just a coincidence?
00:45:46Or is that a punishment?
00:45:48I don't think
00:45:50God's waiting for us to get out of line just so he
00:45:52can reprimand us. But it's not
00:45:54a punishment.
00:45:56Look, I like to believe
00:45:58that God, he
00:46:00loves us just as much in good times as bad.
00:46:04Maybe during hard times he just wanted us
00:46:06to get a little closer to him.
00:46:08Comfort. Support.
00:46:10Love.
00:46:12God
00:46:14loves us always.
00:46:16I mean,
00:46:18you're a pastor so you have to say that, right?
00:46:20Technically.
00:46:22I am.
00:46:24But I still make mistakes.
00:46:28I'm also
00:46:30supposed to take care of people
00:46:32and
00:46:34right now getting this
00:46:36flower.
00:46:40There.
00:46:46So
00:46:48these are winners from previous
00:46:50years
00:46:52and then there's
00:46:54mine.
00:46:56Well, there's still
00:46:58time till Easter.
00:47:02Oh, good timing.
00:47:04Lori!
00:47:06Good morning, Ladybug.
00:47:08Can you please tell me that-
00:47:10You have another lesson ready because I still
00:47:12don't feel like I'm getting it.
00:47:14Patience makes perfect.
00:47:16It's time for your third principal
00:47:18purpose.
00:47:20Now, we've been working on floral arrangements but it's important
00:47:22that every design says something
00:47:24on a more deeper
00:47:26personal level. You have to find
00:47:28inspiration outside the flowers
00:47:30to put into the flowers.
00:47:32Okay, I'm following.
00:47:34So here's what I want you to do.
00:47:36The church is hosting an Easter basket raffle
00:47:38tomorrow evening at Parish Hall to raise money
00:47:40for the local food bank.
00:47:42Church members and non-church members
00:47:44are creating and donating individualized
00:47:46baskets. Now the items in these baskets
00:47:48they all mean something very
00:47:50personal to their curators.
00:47:52So you want me to
00:47:54arrange an Easter basket
00:47:56but how is that supposed to make me
00:47:58a better floral arranger?
00:48:02Lori?
00:48:04Sorry, dear.
00:48:08Not every lesson reveals itself right away.
00:48:12Okay, I will
00:48:15do my best.
00:48:17You always do. I'll see you tomorrow.
00:48:27Any
00:48:29ideas on where I'd get some inspiration
00:48:31for an Easter basket?
00:48:33I just might.
00:48:39Here's a good one.
00:48:41I used to love it when Dad would push me around in the
00:48:43wheelbarrow and you always came in
00:48:45needing a bath.
00:48:51Remember that Christmas?
00:48:53That was probably the best Christmas ever.
00:48:55You know, I still use those
00:48:57pruning shears.
00:49:01Feeling inspired?
00:49:03I think I've got an idea.
00:49:07Oh, thanks so much
00:49:09for coming. Don't forget your raffle tickets.
00:49:13So, what do you have?
00:49:15I did a My First Garden
00:49:17basket. I got something
00:49:19like this Christmas'
00:49:21many, many moons ago and
00:49:23it really meant a lot to me.
00:49:25It gave me a sense of independence
00:49:27and purpose so hopefully it'll do the same
00:49:29for someone else. You, Ladybug,
00:49:31have aced the assignment. When you have
00:49:33a special connection to your arrangements
00:49:35it's going to show in the final product.
00:49:37Grace,
00:49:39can I have your help, please?
00:49:41Sure.
00:49:45Well, well, well, look at that.
00:49:47Garden basket.
00:49:49Where's the mulch?
00:49:51It didn't go with the aesthetic.
00:49:53Where's yours?
00:49:55It's a
00:49:57faith-based basket
00:49:59complete with mustard seeds.
00:50:01Very on-brand.
00:50:03Why don't you do something that's, you know,
00:50:05like a rock-climbing basket
00:50:07with some ropes, carabiners...
00:50:09I know, I know, I can't
00:50:11control everything, but one thing I can control
00:50:13is how people in the church see me.
00:50:15Maybe there's
00:50:17something important about sharing
00:50:19all sides of yourself.
00:50:21It's a little more
00:50:23complicated than that.
00:50:27But of course,
00:50:29I'm here for you.
00:50:31But of course,
00:50:33I'm here to meet you where you're at.
00:50:35Also, are you coming for my job?
00:50:37I'll stick to farming.
00:50:39For now.
00:50:41Alright, well,
00:50:43for now, I should go emcee the event.
00:50:57Alright, and now for all the
00:50:59green thumbs in the church,
00:51:01we have a basket donated
00:51:03by the wonderful
00:51:05Amanda Raymond.
00:51:07A beautiful starter set for the next
00:51:09great gardener out there.
00:51:11Would you look at all those tickets?
00:51:13Alright, let's see what we've got.
00:51:15And the lucky
00:51:17winner is
00:51:192842.
00:51:212842.
00:51:23That's me.
00:51:25Well, there we go.
00:51:27Constance Hughes.
00:51:29Constance Hughes, everyone.
00:51:31Thank you, Constance.
00:51:33Okay, everyone, I think that wraps up
00:51:35our event for today.
00:51:37Thank you all for coming out.
00:51:43Hey.
00:51:45Look over there.
00:51:47This is for you.
00:51:49Really?
00:51:51Yeah.
00:51:57You're welcome.
00:51:59Hey, look at that.
00:52:01Uh-huh.
00:52:03That right there.
00:52:05The power of God's love.
00:52:07I, um,
00:52:09I do have to get home and
00:52:11practice, but, uh,
00:52:13I was wondering if I could show
00:52:15you something first.
00:52:17Yeah. Hey, of course.
00:52:27And,
00:52:29voila.
00:52:31Wow.
00:52:33You got good secrets.
00:52:35Wow.
00:52:37Look at those
00:52:39stars.
00:52:41God's freckles.
00:52:43That's what my mom used to say.
00:52:45Can I ask
00:52:47you something?
00:52:49Sure, anything.
00:52:51I haven't been to church in
00:52:53a year, and
00:52:55you're a pastor.
00:52:59What do you see in me?
00:53:01So much.
00:53:03I don't
00:53:05look at someone and wonder how
00:53:07often they're going to church or
00:53:09praying every day.
00:53:11The size of someone's faith,
00:53:13that can change as life changes.
00:53:15But
00:53:17the size of someone's heart,
00:53:19that's what I see.
00:53:21I see that in you.
00:53:25The way
00:53:27you love your family,
00:53:29your farm,
00:53:31those flowers.
00:53:35And I might be losing all
00:53:37that soon.
00:53:39I know the stress of
00:53:41all this must be a lot,
00:53:43but I have faith.
00:53:47I see that in you, too.
00:53:49You do?
00:53:51I do.
00:53:53I'm praying
00:53:55for you.
00:53:57Be patient with yourself.
00:53:59That's my sermon
00:54:01for tomorrow.
00:54:03The fruit of patience.
00:54:05Now that's a tough one.
00:54:07Yeah?
00:54:09It is.
00:54:11But it's worth it.
00:54:17Um,
00:54:19you probably
00:54:21have some flowers that need to be arranged.
00:54:23Yes.
00:54:25We should probably get going.
00:54:27Thank you
00:54:29for bringing me here.
00:54:31Yeah.
00:54:33Yeah.
00:54:37Patience.
00:54:41Right. Everything's set.
00:54:43Amanda!
00:54:45Hi, Laurie.
00:54:47Hi. Remember doing these
00:54:49eight races back in the day?
00:54:51This is your fourth principle. Balance.
00:54:53Oh.
00:54:55All right, kids.
00:54:57Oh, and Amanda.
00:54:59Welcome.
00:55:01The first race is a practice race.
00:55:03Okay? Time to perfect your strategy.
00:55:05If you drop your egg, don't worry.
00:55:07It's a hard roll. Just pick it back up and keep going.
00:55:09All right, come to the starting line.
00:55:11On your marks.
00:55:13Get set.
00:55:15Go!
00:55:17Go, go, go, go!
00:55:19Careful, careful. You got it.
00:55:21Go, go, go!
00:55:23No!
00:55:25That's it! That's it, Timmy!
00:55:27Go, go, go! Yes!
00:55:29Great effort.
00:55:31Great practice round.
00:55:33Okay, the real race starts in a few minutes.
00:55:35Do your stretches.
00:55:37How did I used to be so good at this as a kid?
00:55:39Think of it like this.
00:55:41Look at your floral design,
00:55:43and you have an imaginary axis
00:55:45on both sides.
00:55:47Think of it the same way with the race.
00:55:49Center the egg on the spoon
00:55:51on that same axis.
00:55:53Center on the axis to create
00:55:55some balance.
00:55:57So, feeling confident?
00:55:59About as confident as I can be
00:56:01after one attempt.
00:56:03Well, good, because I'm racing, too.
00:56:05Oh.
00:56:07Care to make a friendly wager?
00:56:09I'm listening.
00:56:11Well, if you win,
00:56:13I'll make you lunch.
00:56:15If I win, you have to listen
00:56:17to my Sunday sermon.
00:56:19You know what?
00:56:21Fine. You're on.
00:56:23Alright. Line up in the starting line.
00:56:25First one to the finish wins.
00:56:27And get ready,
00:56:29because this one's going to be a lot faster than the last one.
00:56:31Are you ready?
00:56:33On your mark, get set,
00:56:35go!
00:56:37Oh, gosh.
00:56:39Don't drop it.
00:56:41I'm not cheating.
00:56:43I'm a pastor. I never cheat.
00:56:45Oh, no!
00:56:47No, no.
00:56:49Good job, guys.
00:56:53Good work.
00:56:55Wow. You really got me.
00:56:57I don't think
00:56:59I've ever seen somebody look so happy to lose
00:57:01a bet. Well, losing means I
00:57:03get to take you to lunch.
00:57:07Well, Ladybug, those are
00:57:09the four principles that I can teach you.
00:57:11Harmony, contrast,
00:57:13purpose, and balance. But there's still
00:57:15one left. Master four
00:57:17and earn the fifth.
00:57:19That one's in here, my dear.
00:57:21You have to discover it. And in the meantime,
00:57:23you need to do the three P's of an expert
00:57:25floral arranger.
00:57:27The three P's?
00:57:29Practice, practice, practice.
00:57:31All right.
00:57:33Almost there.
00:57:43It's incredible.
00:57:45Come on.
00:57:53So,
00:57:55this is what I want you
00:57:57to do.
00:58:00This is what I wanted
00:58:02to show you.
00:58:04They're snowdrops.
00:58:06I had no idea what they're called. I just
00:58:08thought they were pretty.
00:58:10They're perfect.
00:58:14Snowdrops can grow in adverse
00:58:16conditions like frost,
00:58:18but they also tend to be
00:58:20the first flowers to bloom in spring.
00:58:24They kind of remind me
00:58:26of you.
00:58:30Thank you for taking me here.
00:58:32Oh, we're not done yet.
00:58:34Nope. We
00:58:36are just getting started.
00:58:42So,
00:58:44the other day at the raffle,
00:58:46you were talking about how
00:58:48it was complicated.
00:58:50Your image and how
00:58:52the church saw you.
00:58:54What did you mean by that?
00:58:56Yeah, um,
00:58:58when I told you about my accident the other
00:59:00day, I
00:59:02wasn't able to tell you the
00:59:04whole story.
00:59:06You see, when I
00:59:08fell, I lost my
00:59:10footing.
00:59:12And one of my students,
00:59:14he was tethered to me.
00:59:16He fell even further than I did.
00:59:18And, uh,
00:59:22he wasn't as lucky.
00:59:24He didn't make it?
00:59:26No, he did.
00:59:28Thank God he did.
00:59:30Just, uh,
00:59:34he's in a wheelchair now.
00:59:38And a day goes by
00:59:40and I don't think about that poor kid.
00:59:42I blame myself.
00:59:46I can't even bring myself
00:59:48to rock climb again.
00:59:50I'm sorry.
00:59:52You know, in many ways
00:59:54I feel like moving out here was just my
00:59:56attempt to
00:59:58get away from the memory of it all.
01:00:00I feel like
01:00:02such a hypocrite sometimes.
01:00:04I'm asking people to
01:00:06find joy in their sorrow
01:00:08and here I am, running for my own.
01:00:14We all have
01:00:16chapters of our lives that we wish
01:00:18we could rewrite.
01:00:20My dad would say
01:00:22without tests there could be
01:00:24no testimony.
01:00:28Being open
01:00:30and vulnerable
01:00:32shows your humanity.
01:00:34It gives people hope.
01:00:38I really like that.
01:01:12Have you decided?
01:01:14Your great word will reach so many young people.
01:01:16I know.
01:01:18I want to help
01:01:20and you more than anyone know
01:01:22about my adventurous side.
01:01:24What better way then?
01:01:26There's no way around this relocation thing.
01:01:28Unfortunately not, given the need
01:01:30to be near the mountains.
01:01:32But think of all the upside.
01:01:34It's just too good of an opportunity
01:01:36to pass up, isn't it?
01:01:38Well,
01:01:40it's a pleasure, Samuel, as always.
01:01:42It's good to see you.
01:01:44Take care, friend.
01:01:46You too.
01:02:08Amanda?
01:02:12Amanda!
01:02:22Samuel.
01:02:28You got this.
01:02:30Just, just, just...
01:02:32Good morning, Amanda.
01:02:34I'm afraid I had a bit of a fall
01:02:36carrying groceries this morning.
01:02:38I'm at the hospital now, getting some x-rays.
01:02:40Don't worry, I'll be fine.
01:02:42Keep practicing.
01:02:44I believe in you, Ladybug.
01:02:46Really?
01:02:48Is this part of your master plan?
01:02:56I'm sorry, Amanda.
01:02:58I'm sorry.
01:03:00Here's the good news.
01:03:04You are the creator of your own garden.
01:03:06Yeah, there might be
01:03:08a weed here or there.
01:03:10Those you just pull out.
01:03:12It wasn't supposed to be there
01:03:14in the first place.
01:03:16But with what's left,
01:03:18why not water that with love?
01:03:20Let the light shine down
01:03:22on that.
01:03:24It'll grow into a life
01:03:26that is beautiful.
01:03:28You're right.
01:03:30Thanks, Dad.
01:03:32I needed that.
01:03:42Hi.
01:03:44Amanda, you and Derek,
01:03:46you just missed Crossing Paths.
01:03:48Oh, my.
01:03:50You did these?
01:03:52Uh, this morning.
01:03:54Well,
01:03:56Ladybug,
01:03:58I think you are ready
01:04:00to go win a competition.
01:04:02Well, there's still
01:04:04one missing piece, but I think
01:04:06I know what that final lesson is.
01:04:08You do?
01:04:10True beauty comes from the heart.
01:04:12So, the key to a winning
01:04:14arrangement has to be
01:04:16love.
01:04:20Bravo.
01:04:22The final principle
01:04:24of love.
01:04:26A winning floral arrangement
01:04:28is filled with the love that you put
01:04:30into making it.
01:04:32Amanda,
01:04:36I very likely won't be on my feet
01:04:38in time for the competition, but I
01:04:40promise you, I am going to be there
01:04:42in spirit. Thank you.
01:04:44That really means a lot.
01:04:46So,
01:04:50what's going on with you
01:04:52and Derek?
01:04:56You know, when someone shows you
01:04:58who they are,
01:05:00just believe them.
01:05:02Not just the bad traits, but
01:05:04the good ones, too.
01:05:08Forgive him.
01:05:14It sounds like we could all
01:05:16use a little more
01:05:18harmony in our lives.
01:05:20Yeah, you're so right.
01:05:26Could you do me a favor?
01:05:28Sure.
01:05:34Oh,
01:05:36hello. I'm
01:05:38Amanda Raymond. We've never really
01:05:40talked. Honey, I don't
01:05:42mean to be rude, but there's a very important
01:05:44floral competition this weekend that I need to focus
01:05:46on, so now's not a good time.
01:05:48Okay, I hear you. I just need
01:05:50five minutes of your time.
01:05:54Come in.
01:06:00This way, please.
01:06:04Wow, that's gorgeous.
01:06:10I'm here, actually, as a delivery person
01:06:12today. Lori Matthews
01:06:14wanted me to give this to you.
01:06:24Oh, Loretta.
01:06:26How far apart we've grown.
01:06:28I don't actually think the two of you
01:06:30are as far apart as you each think.
01:06:34Anyway, good luck at the competition
01:06:36tomorrow. I mean, not that
01:06:38you're gonna need it.
01:06:40Thank you for stopping by.
01:06:42You're welcome.
01:06:48Hey, God.
01:06:50It's me, Amanda.
01:06:54I know
01:06:56we haven't talked in a while,
01:07:00but I'm here.
01:07:04We really need you.
01:07:18Ladybug latte for luck.
01:07:20You're the best.
01:07:24So,
01:07:26win the competition, save the farm.
01:07:28No pressure, right?
01:07:30Well, if it doesn't work out, maybe you can
01:07:32come on as a partner at the cafe?
01:07:34But who am I kidding?
01:07:36You're gonna win this thing.
01:07:38Okay, bye.
01:07:41Welcome, talented florists.
01:07:43You will all have three hours to create
01:07:45your designs with a short break
01:07:47at the halfway point.
01:07:49As instructed in the contest details,
01:07:51you are all allowed to bring in and incorporate
01:07:53one item meaningful to you.
01:07:55We look forward to seeing your creations
01:07:57and good luck.
01:08:47Or we continue.
01:08:49Ladybug!
01:08:51Lori!
01:08:53You made it!
01:08:55I got cleared just in time.
01:08:57How are you doing?
01:08:59Not great.
01:09:01It's not coming together like I want it to.
01:09:03And the clock is ticking down.
01:09:05It's okay.
01:09:07Just close your eyes.
01:09:09Just breathe.
01:09:11And I want you to think about the five principles.
01:09:13Harmony, contrast, purpose, balance.
01:09:15Love.
01:09:21Okay.
01:09:23I'm gonna be okay.
01:09:27The halfway break is over.
01:09:29The competition is back on.
01:09:31Okay, I gotta get back to work.
01:09:33I will make you proud.
01:09:35You will.
01:09:45You will.
01:10:15You will.
01:10:45You will.
01:10:47You will.
01:10:49You will.
01:10:51You will.
01:10:53You will.
01:10:55You will.
01:10:57You will.
01:10:59You will.
01:11:01You will.
01:11:03You will.
01:11:05You will.
01:11:07You will.
01:11:09You will.
01:11:11You will.
01:11:13Our winner is...
01:11:15The winner is...
01:11:17The winner is...
01:11:19The winner is...
01:11:21The winner is...
01:11:23Constance Hughes.
01:11:25Constance Hughes.
01:11:27Constance Hughes.
01:11:29Which makes newcomer Amanda Raymond
01:11:31our runner-up.
01:11:33Congratulations
01:11:35to all our participants
01:11:37and Happy Easter weekend.
01:11:39And Happy Easter weekend.
01:11:41I tried, sorry.
01:11:46You're apologizing?
01:11:48Can you imagine the look on your father's face if he saw what you accomplished today?
01:11:53He'd be over the moon.
01:11:55Now that's the truth.
01:11:58Oh, he left.
01:12:00Big day tomorrow.
01:12:04Laurie, I just wanted to say thank you for teaching me the five principles.
01:12:11I realized that they're all things that I've been missing in my own life.
01:12:15You've given me a renewed sense of purpose on Easter.
01:12:21That's the most important lesson of all.
01:12:31Congratulations.
01:12:33It's really beautiful.
01:12:36We're having an Easter brunch at the farm tomorrow.
01:12:40I wanted to invite you. It's sort of a final send-off.
01:12:45I'm not sure that I can, but I really appreciate the invitation.
01:12:50It would mean so much to me if you could make it.
01:12:53We'll see.
01:12:57Thank you for the sunflower.
01:13:00You're welcome.
01:13:03Happy Easter to both of you.
01:13:05Happy Easter.
01:13:06Happy Easter.
01:13:20Warm weather on an Easter Sunday.
01:13:22Doesn't get much better than that.
01:13:24It's wonderful to see the best version of my daughter back.
01:13:27Joyful and hopeful.
01:13:31You're my mom. You have to say that.
01:13:33Mom.
01:13:51Dad did so many of these for other people, and we never did one for him.
01:13:56Thank you for organizing this.
01:13:59Oh, it wasn't just me.
01:14:01It wasn't?
01:14:03No.
01:14:05My parent called me and asked if it was okay.
01:14:27I'm going to go get our seats.
01:14:29Amanda.
01:14:42On this Easter Sunday, there is just one more fruit of the Holy Spirit left to talk about.
01:14:51Love.
01:14:54Today is about a resurrection.
01:14:58And in that resurrection, love wins.
01:15:03You see, God loves all of us.
01:15:07After all, we are made in his image.
01:15:15I realize I haven't been completely open about my own journey.
01:15:28God places people in our lives for a reason.
01:15:31Someone very special in my own life taught me the importance of being who God created me to be.
01:15:43Before God's path led me here, I was involved in a terrible rock climbing accident.
01:15:53It was a moment that irrevocably changed several lives, mine included.
01:15:58And though I was lucky enough to have forgiveness from those around me, I was unable to find it in my heart to forgive myself.
01:16:12But today, in the spirit of the resurrection, I forgive myself.
01:16:26And I'm committed to embracing who he created me to be, including my love for rock climbing, a gift from God.
01:16:35You see, our relationship with God is rooted in love and forgiveness.
01:16:41And just as God forgives us, we too must learn to forgive each other and ourselves.
01:16:52After all, forgiveness is the purest expression of love.
01:17:00So, on this Easter Sunday, let us walk this path of love together. Amen!
01:17:16Amen!
01:17:31I'll get it.
01:17:32Making up for a late bloom.
01:17:34I think it looks delicious.
01:17:38Hi.
01:17:39Hey.
01:17:41Happy Easter.
01:17:42Happy Easter.
01:17:44Listen, I just want to let you know how much it meant to me, seeing your face at church this morning.
01:17:51It really warmed my heart.
01:17:53And congratulations, by the way, on yesterday.
01:17:59I couldn't save the farm, but I did my best.
01:18:05I'm proud of you.
01:18:07And I'm proud of you for showing the church your authentic self.
01:18:13It took a lot.
01:18:15I'm going to miss you.
01:18:19Miss me?
01:18:20Yeah, aren't you taking the job?
01:18:23Turn it down.
01:18:26Why?
01:18:27Because there's something here.
01:18:30Something special.
01:18:33With you.
01:18:35With us.
01:18:37And I feel like it's just begun.
01:18:39And I can't wait to see where it goes.
01:18:43Or grows or blooms.
01:18:45Okay, I'll stop.
01:18:47That is, of course, if you're open to it.
01:18:54Constance!
01:18:55Constance!
01:18:57You made it!
01:18:58I did.
01:18:59Come inside.
01:19:00I can give you a tour.
01:19:05Come in.
01:19:16I have to do it.
01:19:17Yes.
01:19:18Thank you, Loretta.
01:19:20And I just have to say, I'm so sorry.
01:19:23Please forgive me.
01:19:26We both played an equal part, Constance, so I ask of you the same thing.
01:19:41I have an announcement.
01:19:47This is such a beautiful farm, run by a beautiful family.
01:19:52And Amanda, you are the most talented young farmer,
01:19:57well now, farmer and florist that I've ever seen.
01:20:02And I might have won first place in the eyes of the judges,
01:20:06but you won first place in my eyes.
01:20:12And I would love nothing more than to pass the prize money to you.
01:20:22Oh my gosh.
01:20:24I don't know what to say.
01:20:26You don't have to say anything.
01:20:27You deserved it.
01:20:29I just ask that you name the sunflower section on the farm after me and Lori.
01:20:38It would be an honor.
01:20:42You're welcome.
01:20:44Thank you so, so much.
01:20:50What incredible timing.
01:20:51So, this $20,000, it would be enough to tide us over until the bloom comes in.
01:20:58And I was thinking that in order for us not to be in this position again,
01:21:04how would you feel about the Raymond Family Farm transitioning into a one-stop wedding venue?
01:21:14I love that idea, Amanda.
01:21:16I have always wanted to bake wedding cakes.
01:21:20Weddings are beautiful.
01:21:21I volunteer to officiate.
01:21:23Oh, and I can help with the arrangements as long as my assistant here is available.
01:21:28Oh, assistant.
01:21:29Oh, you never teach one bit.
01:21:36Okay.
01:21:38Okay.
01:21:39All right.
01:21:41Well, dig in, everyone.
01:21:42All right.
01:21:44Okay.
01:21:50Happy Easter, Dad.
01:22:00Are the flowers part of the whole wedding setup?
01:22:05It's funny you ask because I was thinking that couples could stand right about here for their first kisses and newlyweds.
01:22:19Really?
01:22:20Right here?
01:22:22You sure?
01:22:23Because there's a lot of really beautiful parts of the...
01:22:34It's perfect.
01:22:37It's decided then.
01:22:39It's decided.
01:22:46Where are you at?
01:22:47Right here.
01:22:49Where?
01:22:50Right here.
01:22:51Right here.
