00:00All right, so we're going into the NFL season, we saw suspensions with sports betting being

00:08legal coming, especially I thought about a year ago, where a couple of players were suspended

00:13and a couple, you know, banned from the NFL.

00:17So now there's new training involved, Sam, what is this involved as far as like monitoring

00:22the players to make sure they're doing the right thing?

00:24Yeah, this is it's sort of surprising that the NFL came out and said, hey, this is the

00:29first time we're going to have in-person mandatory training for all 32 teams where the coaches,

00:36player staff, everyone will be in one room while this training happens, talking about

00:40gambling awareness, have these several principles like don't bet on the NFL, don't have someone

00:47bet on your behalf, a proxy betting situation, don't share inside information with anybody,

00:52don't gamble while you're at a team facility or while you're traveling for work, which

00:57we've seen some players and coaches get in trouble for in the past.

01:00Don't enter a sportsbook during the season and don't play daily fantasy football, games

01:04like prize picks, games like Yahoo Fantasy.

01:07So all all core tenants that have been part of the program for a while, but this is going

01:11to be the first time that they have everyone in one room and it's mandatory for everyone

01:15to go through this training together, which they hope will inspire more questions, more

01:19engagement.

01:20They're going to have former players at this training as well.

01:22A lot of people are kind of surprised that this wasn't required already.

01:25The NFL came out and sort of clarified that, hey, we've had all types of gambling awareness

01:30training mandatory for a very long time.

01:32This is sort of a new added layer we're putting on this.

01:36And this is the first offseason.

01:38We've almost made a full offseason without any major gambling suspensions in the NFL.

01:42Last year we had about 10 or 11.

01:44So it's a big change.

01:46Obviously, you've seen all those policies and all suspensions handed down.

01:50Maybe that's encouraging players.

01:52Maybe the NFL is just getting better at this kind of stuff.

01:56They're doing more.

01:57It's obvious that they always want to tout that they're doing more.

01:59They've come out and said that threats towards players are up slightly.

02:04Some of that having to do with sports betting, some of it having to do with other factors

02:08as well.

02:09So it's something they're taking very seriously.

02:11They talked about all the game day monitoring that they do.

02:14They have these different agents tasked to every team, which we'd never heard about before.

02:18So they're really taking gambling seriously, at least so they say, and would expect more

02:23and more kind of in this direction as the season approaches.

02:26And they cross their fingers for no gambling suspensions this year.
