00:00It's the latest draconian measure to come out of Afghanistan.

00:06Three years after the return of the Taliban, new laws now prohibit Afghan women from showing

00:11their faces or even speaking outside their homes.

00:15Full-face veils have become obligatory, with make-up and perfume now banned.

00:22This new law attacks them in their very existence.

00:26With this new law, you can't even hear the sound of a woman's voice, or even see a part

00:30of a woman's body, so they need to wear gloves and hide their faces.

00:35It's like telling them, little by little, not to exist.

00:40Since the Taliban's return, women have been practically erased from public view.

00:45Girls older than 12 have been banned from school, women have been restricted from numerous

00:51jobs, and beauty salons have been forced to close.

00:54The new laws will now likely push women and girls in Afghanistan to the brink.

00:5968% of the women we surveyed said they had bad or very bad mental health, and 8% of women

01:07said that they knew at least one other woman or girl who had attempted suicide.

01:14While rights groups say the new restrictive laws in Afghanistan are tantamount to gender

01:19apartheid, the reaction from the international community has been muted for now.
