00:00So let's go to San Francisco, talk about the 49ers, talk about the running back, the wide

00:08receiver situation, tight ends.

00:10Let's go.

00:12The San Francisco 49ers, the champions of the NFC, they somehow got through the gauntlet.

00:18They survived the Green Bay Packers, they survived the Lions, did not survive the Chiefs

00:24in the Super Bowl and already dealing with some things that I think we've got to talk

00:28about.

00:29And that is oftentimes the consensus number one.

00:31And it's hard for me to tell you not to take CMC.

00:36But all I can tell you is you are taking up this year, 417, that's the number to keep

00:41in mind, 417 touches from last year into the playoffs.

00:47That is an enormous workload for any running back, anywhere, anytime.

00:51And history has shown us anytime a guy goes over that 400 threshold, typically the next

00:55year, there's time missed or performance issues.

00:58So does that mean you can't take CMC?

01:00No, of course you can.

01:01But you have to know what you're getting into.

01:03And the notion that you could just take him and not back up with a lot of other running

01:07backs at some point in time is one that you have to change your strategy.

01:10I think if you're taking CMC this year, you have to look at your roster construction a

01:13little different.

01:14Sure, when it comes back to you in that 2-3 turn, you're probably looking at wide receivers.

01:18That's fine.

01:19But when we start to get in those middle rounds, you really should pay attention to the other

01:22running backs because it is tough to see a season where he plays every single game and

01:28there's no issues.

01:29He was dealing with a calf issue already.

01:31He is another year older.

01:33And again, this is not trying to throw shade.

01:35It's trying to make you understand that there's more risk in CMC than you realize.

01:39And it's tough to say no to him.

01:41He's a player and a half, statistically.

01:43That is a huge advantage in fantasy.

01:45The only time he becomes a disadvantage is when he's not on the field.

01:48So my plea to you is not to avoid Christian McCaffrey.

01:53But if you're drafting Christian McCaffrey, have a plan.

01:56Have a backup plan in there, built in.

01:59And from what I saw in the preseason, I know Eli Mitchell's missed some time with an injury

02:04too.

02:05Jordan Mason looked really sharp.

02:07Jordan Mason looks like he might be the guy, potentially, who would be the immediate winner

02:12for any vacated touches for CMC in the offensive he was hurt.

02:16So just kind of put that in the back of your brain, let it soak in, and see if you can

02:20make it all work.

02:21Brock Purdy, another guy last year, played well above expectations.

02:26Did a great job, finished as a QB1, still being drafted as a low-end QB1.

02:30And I think that's probably where he goes.

02:32Would I rather have Jaden Daniels?

02:33Yes.

02:34Would I rather wait a little bit longer if I could sneak a Jordan Love over him?

02:38Yes.

02:39Would I rather take Jared Goff or Kirk Cousins?

02:42Probably at cost.

02:43I don't see a big difference between any of those guys.

02:45So Jaden Daniels is the one that sticks out along with Jordan Love as the difference maker.

02:49So an ADP, I talked about it last week, as possibly being a bust.

02:53I got to ask you, Matt, are you somebody that thinks that we're just going to go right

02:56back into the same old 49er thing?

02:58Or are you somebody buying into the data of the last 25 years that tells us when a team

03:03loses the Super Bowl, typically the next year, doesn't go exactly how they want it to go?

03:08Just ask the Eagles from last year and every other squad for the last 25, except for the

03:13Patriots and Tom Brady.

03:15Yes, I believe in the immutable laws of math.

03:18With that said, I like to go into each draft in a new season with a nice balance and blend.

03:23Of what is hot and new and what I know that works.

03:26And for me, the situation with Brandon Iyuk causes a lot of concern.

03:30Same thing that's going on in Buffalo, same thing that's going on in Pittsburgh, is that

03:33I just don't know.

03:34So now my things that I know are limited, and now I have to kind of venture into the

03:39uncharted waters of these new shiny things.

03:41So I'm with you, but I want to see how this Iyuk situation plays out, Joe.

03:45Yeah, that's the tough one.

03:47He's still holding strong here at wide receiver 16, the 33rd player going off the board.

03:51Where I struggle with that is, Nico Collins, Mike Evans ahead of him, Cooper Cup, DK Metcalf,

03:57DJ Moore, Michael Pittman, Jaylen Waddle all after him.

04:00Why am I taking the risk of the guy holding out?

04:03Why am I doing this?

04:04And if he gets traded to the Steelers, is that a better offensive situation for Brandon Iyuk?

04:09I don't think so.

04:10I like Brandon Iyuk a lot as a player.

04:11He's a really solid value last year.

04:13Now he's not a value anymore.

04:15He is a guy you have to get at cost, and he has to return that cost.

04:18So it becomes tricky.

04:19Deebo Samuel, his running mate there in that wide receiver grouping, he's being drafted

04:23as a 12th wide receiver off the board.

04:26I struggle with that a little bit.

04:27Another guy that's had some injury history in his backlog.

04:31You got Devontae Adams, who plays every single year ahead of him.

04:34You've got Drake Lund in that same range.

04:36Again, Mike Evans, Nico Collins.

04:37So both these 49er wide receivers, I'm kind of fading away from.

04:42Kittle we talked about is an ADP value.

04:44I think Kittle's the one guy that still comes at a really good cost.

04:47You have to pay a lot for these guys in San Francisco, and I don't know if that's something

04:52I want to do in 2024.

04:55The best value on the board is actually the tight end position in terms of return on investment.
